[OT] It'd be nice if that page would work when Noscript does not trust
the page content. I don't know whether it's the two Javascript
libraries referenced at the bottom of the page, or the TEMPLATE
elements defined to hold "search" results, but unless I tell Noscript
to trust the page then there is *no content*. I currently have 224
tabs open Firefox 52.6ESR (Debian 8) just doesn't work with that
many tabs unless Noscript is watching my back.

HTML5 is spiffy and shiny but a simple HTML4 [gulp] table would work
with Ctrl_F.

Yes, I may well be a Luddite, but ... 224 tabs ... and no need to
reboot the PC for many days :)

[Mozilla Enterprise] Setting Firefox 52 ESR to use built in PDF viewer

2018-02-20 Thread Luca Manganelli

Hi, I know that it's not a common question.

We are using Firefox 52.6 ESR.

We, in our organization, want to use the Firefox PDF.js viewer:

in about:config, pdfjs.disabled is set to FALSE

in our PCs the Adobe Reader is installed (also as a firefox plugin). We
discovered that when I set, in the Options->Applications, the PDF to
"built in viewer", at the next restart this setting is reset to "Use
Adobe Reader (plugin), and remains this at ever boot, even I change it...

As anyone found this strange problem?

Re: [Mozilla Enterprise] Deploy Pinned Tabs

2018-02-20 Thread Samuel Ambaye
Hi James,
Thank you. Yes, I believe you are correct.
As a work-around, we will consider deploying multiple home pages.
Samuel

I'm not sure it can be done other than interactively

I guess you could ask Mike Kaply if this could be added to CCK2 ?

Or, maybe something to be supported by the forthcoming 'Policy Engine'
feature ?

Re: [Mozilla Enterprise] Enforce Addons to always load/run

2018-02-20 Thread McCoy, Chris
Thanks for the info Jeremy, too bad they don't sell just that component and
nothing else. We don't need any of the other tools that it appears you have to
purchase in order to get this one component.

Anyone else have any experience with enforcing addons?

Thanks,
Chris

Chris:

One option is our 3rd party PolicyPak tool.
See video #6 down on this page:

"Not a commercial" ... just a pointer. You can make your own decisions.

We are needing to lock down and manage the deployment and functionality of
Firefox in our environment. While I've found quite a bit of information on how
to manage different settings, including blocking addons from running, I've had
a hard time finding information on how to force an addon to run and prevent
users from disabling. We have two different addons from Mcafee (DLP and
WebControl) that we need to ensure are running in the browser at all times. Is
there a way via config, gpo or some other means, to make this happen?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

[Mozilla Enterprise] Policy data format for Bookmarks in Firefox

2018-02-20 Thread Oliver Gutierrez
Hello there,

First of all let me introduce myself: I'm the main developer for Fleet
Commander, a tool for deploying desktop profiles in large network
environments.

Recently we started to work on supporting browsers. More specificly Firefox
and Chromium/Chrome. We wanted to ask for advice and also give our thoughts
for what it may be worth.

We are very excited about the enterprise policies support you are
developing, and our idea is to use that feature for deploying configuration
and bookmarks policies with our desktop profiles, but until this feature
gets finished, we will do our best to support the settings deployment using
pref files and we are working on getting bookmarks from an existing profile
to later deploy them with a desktop profile.

The things we wanted to ask are mainly about how deployed bookmarks will be
shown and the format for deploying the bookmarks itself.

Given the example here:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/EnterprisePolicies#Example_JSON_file

* Will you support deploying bookmarks in different locations (the
bookmarks bar and in the main bookmarks for example)?

* In chromium/chrome, they just show a "Managed Bookmarks" dropdown at the
bookmarks bar and show the policy set bookmarks there. This way of
deploying the bookmarks is somekind annoying because if I, as a sysadmin,
want to put them directly in the bar as any other bookmark for ease of use
for the users in my network, there is no way to do that. Do you plan to
show the bookmarks just like any other bookmark in the bookmarks bar or
main bookmarks?

* The format you gave as an example does not have any subfolder with more
bookmarks inside it, or multiple subfolder levels. Will that be supported?

Cheers

As stated:

could be suffice, for 'default values', to prepare and copy some config
snippet (eg, some '.js' file with a set of pref(); calls) and copy into
the 'browser\defaults\preferences\'.

For more complex need, probably you have to switch to AutoConfig:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Archive/Misc_top_level/MCD,_Mission_Control_Desktop_AKA_AutoConfig

and so write some code.
