No, they don't activate *your* camera (AFAIK). What can happen is that
if a Facebook member posts your picture, even in a group picture, and
attaches your name, then Facebook may extract your face and name and
use it in other contexts, like another picture including you.

Many cameras having GPS, which gets recorded by default in the
EXIF metadata of JPEGs, which is then by default included in a Facebook
posting, your whereabouts could be tracked just because some other
Facebook member took your picture, and you just happened to be in the
background!

This is all what they *can* do, not necessarily what they *do* do. But
given revelations of what they *have* done, I find them hard to trust.

How, exactly does that work? Are you implying that they somehow secretly
activate my camera, cause the physical slider switch that blocks it to
move to the unblocked position, then scan my face using my camera?

There's a #firefox channel on the MacAdmins slack which features ESR
discussions, and Mike Kaply is active there. Although it's called
MacAdmins, Windows discussion is fine too.
https://macadmins.herokuapp.com/ to generate an invite.

If you've got privacy concerns and you're on facebook you're doing it wrong ;)

I don't see any spam on this list, but then I have set up a separate email
address just for ESR. (And I set up separate emails for most such
groups.)

Also, I am always suspicious of aggregating, cross topic providers taking steps
to fully preserve user privacy, rather than correlating data belonging to one
person who subscribes to multiple topics. (Of course, few can rise to
Facebook's disregard for user privacy.)

[Mozilla Enterprise] Mozilla FF ESR - Slack Support Group?

2019-07-11 Thread Éric Périard
Hello people,

As much as I like this support group for ESR it gets quite spammy at time (yes
I filter and sort them in outlook with rules),

However, since we’re always pretty active, would it not be more useful to ha
channel on Slack?

It’s completely free to register an instance and people may get answers much
faster than an email.

It also supports A/V for meetings.

Just a thought…
