EPEL Inconsistents names of branches in git

Hello,

During my work with my EPEL package I have find out an inconsistent naming of 
the
EPEL branches.

For EPEL-6 the branch is named as el6 but for EPEL-7 it's named as epel7.

So I would like to ask, is there any reseaons for this naming?
