[EUG-LUG:351] Energy production and the Malthusian dieoff
I just read in Tim's report that you were talking about energy at last week's meeting (I was planning to attend but got called on a repair job about 18:00 that evening.) Anyway, here is an article on our energy prospects that just "kicks ass." -Dexter "Petroleum geologists have known for 50 years that global oil production would "peak" and begin its inevitable decline within a decade of the year 2000. Moreover, no renewable energy systems have the potential to generate more than a tiny fraction of the power now being generated by fossil fuels. In short, the end of oil signals the end of civilization, as we know it." http://www.dieoff.org/synopsis.htm

Bob brought in this little computer the size of a keyboard. Very nice http://www.cybernetman.com I once had a commodore 64 that looked like that. They say 'soon all pc's will look like that'. Blah! I don't want a pc to look like that! My laptop has a smaller footprint than that thing, and there are even smaller pc's than mine! Of course, they are marketing, so... I'll cut them some slack.

Nothing can be less than zero. * Chris wonders what footprint classification a computer the size of his Twiddler2 would fall under. -Chris
