Re: [Eug-lug]Python Class at LCC (python VDR libs project in alpha)

2002-11-28 Thread Ben Barrett
For those of you who are thinking about the python class,
here is a neat project I saw on sourcefourge's news:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdrpylib/

Summary:vdrpylib 0.2 released

vdrpylib is a Python library giving programmers easy access to many VDR
(Video Disk Recorder) services. All data is conveniently represented in
an object hierarchy. vdrpylib also provides a wrapper for the SVDR
protocol. Thus, controlling VDR and processing its data becomes quite
simple. Major additions in version 0.2 are support for recordings and
timers as well as a Distutils compliant installation.

vdrpylib is available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdrpylib/

vdrpylib requires Python = 2.0 and VDR 1.1.12

Currently, this project is in its Alpha stage; not all VDR data and
mechanisms are covered by vdrpylib.

(VDR is at http://www.cadsoft.de/people/kls/vdr/ )

2002-11-26 Thread Master O Planets
Yes. The project will have multiple purposes and one of those is to use all
open source software . Now that I have used RH 8.0 I would say that Linux
is ready for prime time. I find that time and again that the general
public have never heard of open source software. I want to show them
something that isn't another email client. No offence to the latest
traffic but I observe that technical discussions do not reach out to the
general public. I hope I speak for some of us when I say that it is in our
interest to promote open source software. I feel it is my civic duty to
explain the democratic nature of open source in these very dark times of
information retrieval. Yes, I am trying to make a buck too.

P.S. I love my new Dakota mini-scout KVM switch, but it makes a small
clicking sound out of the left speaker when I type, maybe I need to ground
the case (For the technically absorbed.)

The link to the instructor's website is broken. What specifically does
this
 course teach - I'm especially
 interested in the graphical side?

So I'm interested. What's the project all about. What are you going to do?
