Re: [Eug-lug]Thiz Linux

XP? Yeah, I've heard of it. It sounds lame.

A friend of mine bought a PC w/ Thiz Linux
pre-installed in Texas last week. He hated it so he
erased his HD and put XP on it (before I could
convince him otherwise). Sad tale, I know--XP
overwriting Linux. He just wanted his computer to
work for ordinary stuff -- get on the internet, browse
files, do multimedia stuff, play games.

 Anyone heard of it?

Re: [Eug-lug]Thiz Linux

2002-11-20 Thread Mike O
Fry's Electronics frequently sells budget (cheap crap)
PC's with Thiz Linux preinstalled. I think it's just a
way to get around the OS barrier and sell systems. Of
course they aren't going to take the time to do a
better distro because it's numbers that are more
important to them. I really don't have an idea of how
useable the system is out of the box though. A WalMart
Lindows PC is probably a better buy for an absolute
beginner and their first PC. At $200 for a PC it can
be considered a throwaway. I can't really build a good
system that I'd even consider using for much less than
$400. Of course you get what you pay for. That's why I
like my $300 graphics card.

Thiz Linuz Desktop 6.0

Looks like they most are catering to the asian markets (see top-level
URL http://www.thizlinux.com ), which might explain why the cheap boxes
at Frys come with it preinstalled.
