Recent research has heightened interest in "worlds that may be rich in liquid water below the surface," said Chris Chyba, associate professor of geological and environmental sciences at Stanford University and director of the Center for the Study of Life in the Universe at the SETI Institute.

Mars is one such world. Another, in some ways even more tantalizing, is Europa.
