[EuroPython] Which accomodation did I book?

2005-06-07 Thread Reinoud van Leeuwen
Hi,

I just registered. On the invoice there is a "note for people staying at
SGS Veckobostader". But I have not seen any information which accomodation
I booked...

Another issue: am I the only one that only discovered that I did only book
accomodation the first time? I think putting the "attendance selection"
dropdown default to "normal attendee" would make a lot of sense. It is the
registration form that you are filling in after all...

(see you soon!)

Is it preferable that there is a personal contact mentioned before the
more general one?

Oh and one other tip: use a tracker to receive all such emails. I've
organised a 2500+ people event last year and we would not have survived
without it.

(we used RT3 which is Perl based. It has a webinterface, a mail interface
and a commandline interface. Especially the ability to store FAQ answers
in the database and to be able to resolve a group of tickets at once are
crucial features. I don't know whether there is a python or zope based
tracker that has similar ones)

Be warned: I used this last summer for another congress where I was part
of the organisation. At one moment Paypal decided that they had a reason
to close our paypal account.
>From that moment on we tried to contact *somebody* at paypal. There is no
email address you can send mail to (only a webform with very little
space). There is no phone number, no street address. Our laywer spent
several days unsuccessfully trying to reach somebody to find out what
paypal *thought* the problem was.

Basically our conclusion was that it is a totally unreliable service for
anything serious.
If you keep on using it, be very sure to get all your money out of it on a
daily basis and put it on a real bank account.

Is that neccessary? Most servers I manage (about 400) I've never seen IRL.
As long as you have a consoleserver and a powerswitch, physical access is
only needed in case of hardware faillure

None of the links on that page show me any logo. And when I click on the
'full size verzion' link I am redirected to

I think a decent CMS is a bigger priority that the logo...

Hmm Firefox accepts it but Safari not. And for a good reason:

on http://www.europython.org/community/Planning/ProposedLogo/Jonkman the
not working image is referred to as
http:/wiki/ep2008/img/logo/europython-112x80.png (Safari)

The HTML source is

Other images on the page are things like:
src="/wiki/modern/img/star_off.png"

But /wiki is of course something else that http:/wiki

So please fix the other problems first, and test your code. We are using a
language that has fantastic test frameworks. Delivering something sloppy
like this is really bad press IMHO

Yes, blame others instead of making a website that all browsers can
read...
I'm very surprised no one else noticed this...

Isn't that the trend nowadays with electronic voting systems? ";-)
