[EuroPython] EuroPython Registration page
There's a problem with the Registration page on the Indico server at CERN: http://indico.cern.ch/confRegistrationFormDisplay.py?confId=44 There's a link to the Registration form on this page that's a bit broken (it has a space in it). I guess that people who have already registered arrived at the form via another route. Should I send corrections like these to the indico-support address or to someone in particular? [EuroPython] Information on your homepage
Hi, I am writing you with regard to the information on your homepage. As you might or might not be aware of, the Swedish Linux Society will be arranging its first annual meeting in the same spot as EuroPython will be held the following weekend. We are currently in the process of updating our homepage with details on accomodation and transportation, and I would like to know if it would be possible for us to translate and slightly modify the texts that you have, considering that they are just what we need. We would very much appreciate it. Sincerely, -- David Pettersson ___ EuroPython mailing list [email protected] http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/europython

This offer might seem like it's a bit late coming but, if you need help in making this happen, I'm willing to spend some time helping out, particularly if this involves writing content or drafting documents. Even if you just need proofreaders to sanity check content, I'd be willing to help. Maybe the whole organisation of the event is going smoothly beneath the surface, though it's hard to tell just from reading this list. With the event less than two months away, it would be good to know sooner rather than later if the organisers feel that they need assistance, even if it's just a case of helping out with some of the more tedious tasks. :-) David ___ EuroPython mailing list [email protected] http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/europython

[EuroPython] Examples from the PyQt4 Talk
I've just finished packing up the examples used in the "Introducing PyQt4 for GUI Application Development" talk in an archive ready for distribution. I considered uploading the archive directly to the Indico site, but decided against it because I might need to make changes to it later on. Instead, I've uploaded it to the Python Package Index and linked to it from the talk's abstract page: http://indico.cern.ch/contributionDisplay.py?contribId=33&sessionId=41&confId=44 I included "EuroPython" in the list of keywords I submitted for the package in the hope that others will do the same, and perhaps this will make it easier for people to find EuroPython-related material when browsing the package index. [EuroPython] EuroPython 2008 - Any interest in tutorials?
As many of you are already aware, preparations for this year's EuroPython are under way. For the second year running, the event will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, with the main programme taking place on Monday 7th, Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th July. Those of us involved with organising the conference are currently looking for ways in which we can make the event more interesting for beginners and experts alike. One way in which we could do this, particularly for people who are learning Python, is to allocate time for tutorials. This approach appears to be popular at conferences like PyCon and PyCon UK, but isn't something we normally do at EuroPython, though there are often talks are aimed at beginners in the schedule. What we'd like to know is: * Is this something that you would like to see? * Would you be interested in giving a tutorial? * Which subject would you be interested in hearing/talking about? If you answered "yes" to either of the first two questions, please feel free to add suggestions for tutorials, either as a participant or as a speaker, to this page on the EuroPython Wiki: http://www.europython.org/community/Talk_Suggestions We're always looking for more participants/organisers. Please take a look at this page on the EuroPython Web site for more details on how to get involved: http://www.europython.org/community/Participants Hope to see some of you there! This topic came up in one of the IRC meetings: http://wiki.python.org/moin/EuroPython/2008/IRCMeetings/IRCMeeting6 For simplicity, we decided that we should keep the 30 vs. 60 minute slots and make 45 minute sessions fill the rest of the time with discussion. The idea being that in-depth talks could run to around 45 minutes with 15 minutes for questions and demos - the longer the talk, the more time you have to leave for questions. That's the theory, at least. Maybe 45 minutes slots would work, but I wouldn't want to schedule 45 minute talks alongside 30 minute ones. [EuroPython] Help promote EuroPython where you work
As part of the ongoing efforts to spread the word about EuroPython, we are looking for people to promote the conference in various online forums: http://wiki.europython.eu/Publicity/Channels We would also like to make people more aware of the conference via their work connections, perhaps by referring like-minded colleagues to the conference site: http://www.europython.eu/ Well-connected or well-funded co-workers might even like to refer to the sponsorship page for additional ways to contribute to the conference's success: http://www.europython.eu/sponsors/ Those of you who like to brighten-up your workplace with posters might be interested in the EuroPython 2010 promotional poster, which is currently being worked on. When it becomes available, it will be located with the other promotional materials on the following page: http://wiki.europython.eu/Publicity/ David ___ EuroPython 2010 - Birmingham, 17-24 July 2010 - http://www.europython2010.eu EuroPython mailing list [email protected] http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/europython

[EuroPython] EuroPython 2010 - Call for Volunteers
With only a month to go before EuroPython 2010, we need to start getting prepared for the task of running a conference! Right now, the Wiki page is looking a little bare, with only a few names: http://wiki.europython.eu/VolunteersByActivity In particular, we're looking for people to be session chairs to make sure that sessions run smoothly. So, if you think you're likely to attend a block of talks, why not volunteer to be the session chair for those talks. http://wiki.europython.eu/SessionTeam http://www.europython.eu/talks/timetable/ Being a session chair makes you more visible to the Python community. If you are looking for a chance to be recognised by your peers and improve your social networking powers, this is the job for you. We're also looking for general helpers and people to help with the audio recording of talks. Maybe you've already registered for the conference. There are probably people who have yet to hear about it - including prospective sponsors - so publicity is still important. Please help promote the conference by reminding friends and colleagues in your workplace, user group or project community. Take a look at our publicity Wiki page for resources: http://wiki.europython.eu/Publicity David Boddie (on behalf of the organisers) ___ EuroPython 2010 - Birmingham, 17-24 July 2010 - http://www.europython2010.eu EuroPython mailing list [email protected] http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/europython
