EQ. That’s it, according to Auto Express, anyways. Mercedes has filed a

From the story:

...Recent trademark applications suggest that Mercedes is lining up a range
of vehicles that will carry the ‘EQ’ prefix in their names - and that
they’re likely to exist under a more conventional sub-brand called MEQ. The
firm has asked to register everything from EQA and EQB through to EQX. It
has also applied to register slogans including ‘EQ inside’, ‘EQ boost’ and
‘Generation MEQ’; these would probably be used in the firm’s marketing
material for the new range of vehicles.

While that all sounds very exciting, the moniker does not. It looks and
sounds like a hodgepodge of letters. It looks and sounds like alphabet soup.
Or a vision test. Or a setting on a vintage Walkman.

Tesla Erupts in Flames During Electric Road Trip Promotion
Aug 15, 2016 Karl Utermohlen

[image] Tesla Source: Tesla Motors
Gas vehicle combustions are still more dangerous
A Tesla ... vehicle burst into flames due a problem with the car’s
“charging” over the weekend.

Three people were in the Model S 90D before the explosion happened–a company
employee, a driver and a passenger. When the electric vehicle warned of a
charging problem, the three occupants exited the car.

A few moments later, a combustion within the Tesla creation occurred,
causing the vehicle to catch fire. Thankfully, no one was injured by the
incident.

The fiasco took place in France, where the company was promoting several
vehicles as part of its ‘Electric Road Trip.’ Soon after the implosion, the
local fire department arrived and put out the flames.

The Model S was destroyed beyond recognition, and the exact cause of the
fire is still being investigated. This isn’t the first accident of the sort
that has happened with a Tesla vehicle, as a Model S caught fire earlier
this year in Norway.

Although the incident raises concern regarding the safety of battery-powered
electric vehicles, gasoline cars can be equally as dangerous, if not more.
In 2013, Tesla noted that its vehicles’ battery pack only contains 10% of
the energy of a gas vehicle, and the combustion potential in such a car is
only 1% that of fuel in a gasoline sedan.

TESLA MODEL S FIRE
]

As part of its ‘Electric Road Trip’ tour for the summer, Tesla stopped in
Biarritz, France to promote Model S and Model X over the weekend.

During a test drive in a Model S 90D, the vehicle suddenly made a loud noise
and sent a visual alert on the dashboard stating that there was a problem
with “charging”. The Tesla employee giving the test drive made the driver
park the car on the side of the road and all three (the driver, the Tesla
employee and another passenger) exited the vehicle.

The Tesla Model S caught on fire only a moment later (pictured above),
according to witnesses.

The story is still developing. We are talking to members of the Tesla Motors
Club in France and reaching out to Tesla.

Firefighters arrived quickly on the scene to control the fire, but the
vehicle was completely destroyed. The result was reportedly similar to the
remains of the Model S that caught fire while Supercharging in Norway
earlier this year.

It is important to note that while electric vehicle fires are widely
reported, there’s no evidence that there are any more frequent than
gas-powered car fires.

But what is particularly interesting here – though it could change since the
story is still developing – is that previous instances of Tesla vehicles
catching fire happened after severe impacts, especially after debris on the
road punctured the battery pack at high-speed.

Those incidents stopped after Tesla added a titanium shield on the bottom of
the battery pack, but so far there’s been no report of an impact in the case
of the fire in France today.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. A Tesla spokesperson sent Electrek
the following statement:

“We are working with the authorities to establish the facts of the incident
and offer our full cooperation. The passengers are all unharmed. They were
able to safely exit the vehicle before the incident occurred. “

Designs are underway for a 4-mile railway spur leading to the site of
Faraday Future’s planned $1 billion factory site in North Las Vegas.

With no discussion, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern
Nevada’s board of directors on Thursday approved a right-of-way agreement
that allows the agency to build part of the rail line on property owned by
Clark County.

Construction could start by next year on the rail spur, which calls for
linking an existing main railroad line to a 3-million-square-foot plant
where Faraday plans to manufacture electric vehicles, said Fred Ohene, the
commission’s deputy general manager.

Costs to build the spur are still being calculated, with completion expected
by late 2018, Ohene said.

The North Las Vegas Public Works Department issued a grading permit to
Faraday in July, but company officials have not said when construction will
start on the property, just west of U.S. Highway 93 and Grand Valley
Parkway.

Moving forward, Faraday still needs to apply for permits to install
underground utilities, lay the foundation and construct the building, said
city spokeswoman Delen Goldberg.

Nevada lawmakers held a special session in 2015 to approve $215 million in
tax incentives to attract Faraday to the state. The facility is expected to
have 4,500 full-time employees, at least half of whom must be Nevada
residents, as part of an agreement reached with the city.
