I think Bob Aronson's Mars electric car with 2000 pounds of lead acid
batteries did 144 miles under ideal conditions in the late 1960's

[EVDL] Battronic Van and other EV stuff for free

2022-07-14 Thread George E Swartz via EV
I have a Battronic Van which was originally purchased by Seattle City
Light to gain electric vehicle experience in the 1970's. Controller is a
Hartman series parallel contactor type. (I actually knew
Al Hartman back then).  The van has an aluminum body and slide in battery
racks from both sides. I believe the motor is 30 hp. Van is free to a
new home. It is complete except for the matching charger but I have a
couple of forklift chargers that might work. Condition is very, very
poor. There is a bill of sale from the City of Seattle dated Se[t 20,
1974 and other documentation of interest in the file.

I also have three Pullman trolley buses from the 1940's with GE 1213
motors. (I believe J-4). One is complete with trolley poles and
retrievers. These are also in very poor condition and probably destined
for the scrap dealer. There is a wealth of spare parts for any trolley
museums that are interested.

Re: [EVDL] Lightning

2022-04-13 Thread George E Swartz via EV
I have a deposit on a Ford Lightning pick up truck, but I expect unfair
pricing from Ford dealers. We drove a Mustang E last month. The MSRP is
about 43k but the dealer asking price was 77k for 34k dealer mark up. I
expect to see the same BS on the Lightning. George

[EVDL] What Bob Rice would have done

2018-10-16 Thread George E Swartz via EV
Bob Rice would have coined a new word for Tesla, such as MESSLA or a
rearrangement of the letters to form the words "LAST-E" or E-STAL. Bob
was a visionary and a 100% EV enthusiast. I think he would have been
delighted.

Re: [EVDL] Why I Won't Buy a Tesla

2018-10-08 Thread George E Swartz via EV
I didn't like the idea of thousands of little cells either, when I first
looked at the Tesla design.

The key word here is "availability", not MTBF, or reliability. The Tesla
battery can withstand many single point failures without affecting
performance or operation of the car, therefore the car remains available
in spite of failures. Individual Tesla cells are also fused which reduces
fire danger. Single point failures in large format batteries cause greater
percentage degradation per failure.

I had a career in public transportation and availability of rolling stock
is a very important aspect of any fleet of buses.

David,

I am curious, what are the main reasons you would not buy a Tesla.
