Re: [EVDL] Fwd: Steve Clunn's 1st Factor EV

My truck has a manual "armstrong" bed lift kit installed. It does use
two really long hydraulic struts to help lift and to hold it up but it
still takes a lot of muscle to get it moving. However I'd never consider
doing a pickup conversion without some kind of lift installed. Nor would
I put the batteries in the bed.

is SO worth the work & expense though to, 1) reclaim the usable bed space,
&, 2) lower the center of gravity (made it handle much better).

[EVDL] Fwd: Steve Clunn's 1st Factor EV

2016-05-26 Thread Steve Clunn via EV
Hi All,

I have the truck up on EValbum, http://evalbum.com/preview.php?vid=5184

And we should be getting some pictures up on our web site ( listed below) soon.

In some of the paper work in the truck, I found the past owner,
Brandon Kirby, who purchased it in 1983 from the city of Knoxville, TN
and has owned it all these years. I got talk with him on the phone,
and discovered in our conversation, that he also used to be on this
list, back when it started. It had the original SCR Controller and
when he upgraded it to the DCP (Raptor) 156V/600amp Controller, he
said it was surprising how much better it did. Possibly a 1/3rd more
range.

It originally had 20 Golf Cart Batteries with 5 in the front, which he
moved to the back. It has about 40,000 miles, which are mostly his.

He got the truck from the City of Knoxville, TN, when something went
wrong with the charger and they could not fix it. This was the old
Lester Charger, which also charged the 12V battery. Originally it had
no DC/DC or way to charge the 12V battery, while driving.
