Nissan engineers knew this, so they designed using a cheap PbSO4 starter battery that will eventually fail, making profit$ for stealerships. Reading through the leaf forum threads on this topic, there are choices: -go cheap with another wet cell battery, that will fail and need replacing in a few years, with plenty of acid spray corroding near the battery. Advantages: cheap & easy 51r drop in replacement, +auto-tech will accept this type of 12V aux battery. -pay more for a higher-Ah sealed agm, that will last longer before needing replacement. Advantages: not-as-cheap 51r drop in replacement, with a longer life, +auto-tech will accept this type of 12V aux battery. -pay way-too-much for a higher-Ah li-ion battery that is not a drop-in, that makes you install adapters for the cables to reach and connect to the non-automotive lug battery terminals (the auto tech will not like the way it looks: like its a kludge-nightmare). Bottom-line: If I were in Lawrence situation, I'd either go for a 51r drop-in agm battery, or the diehard sealed wet-cell below: https://www.sears.com/diehard-automotive-battery-group-size-51r-price/p-02850352000P?unitNo=0006771&sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=5&blockNo=5&blockType=G5 $140+ 51R sealed @ Sears 662 w winton ave hayward, ca 94545 DieHard Automotive Battery 50352 - Group Size EP-51R I have had very good cost effective use using DieHard batteries, they cost more, but they last longer, &more reliable. I used group 24 DieHard as house batteries, and I have a group 27 DieHard in the ice I'm driving in TX.
