I've been working on the Offline support in 1.1. The way it works is you can specify which folders will get synchronized when you go offline, and Evolution will copy the unread messages from those folders to disk so that you can read them. Messages that you've already viewed will also be available. When you go back online, whatever changes you've made will be synchronized with the server. Evolution's IMAP support tends to be on the slow side but it's pretty feature-complete. IMAP also has the advantage of having different folders on the server, and if you can access the server you can access all of your mail. (or: IMAP is for keeping mail on the server, POP is for downloading mail to your computer.) As Brian said, if your ISP supports IMAP, the easiest thing to do is create an IMAP account and see how it works out for you. Unless you start moving messages around, you'll basically be able to switch back to POP if you don't like it. Also, another question is.. since I'm already using POP, how do I switch my email account to IMAP with the folder layout I have already created? Or do I have to start over? It depends on the setup. Does your provider use IMAP? Since POP only supports one folder (your inbox), if your ISP supports IMAP, it is likely all you'd have to do is change the protocol type in your configuration to be IMAP rather than POP. [Evolution] Delete from server when expunged in client...
Hello, I'm just getting used to evolution (switching from mutt due to company contact management needs) and I really am very please with it. It's increased immensely in stability since 1.0.0 I'd like to be able to use it as a pop client and save messages on server by default, but then when I delete a message in my client (or expunge, it really doesn't matter which to me) I'd like that message to then be deleted from the server (to help conserve space on the server). I see this is a common option in most Outlook versions.. Is this supported in Evolution? Or are there plans to support it soon? -- Nick Jennings Technical Services Engineer Mountain View Data, Inc. ___ evolution maillist - [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/evolution
Re: [Evolution] Delete from server when expunged in client...
Rather than trying to do this with POP, you should really use IMAP instead. IMAP does this by default and requires nothing from the Evolution developers to extend the POP protocol unnecessarily to do what IMAP already does. I've used IMAP in the past, and I like it. However, It's been my experience that things get really slow when pulling up messages.. I'd like to ask how the client behaves under disconnected mode? Can you still read messages etc. when you cannot access the mailserver? When I used mutt, it was SSL-IMAP, and I could not access old messages when the server was down. Also, another question is.. since I'm already using POP, how do I switch my email account to IMAP with the folder layout I have already created? Or do I have to start over? Thanks for your input.
