Re: [Evolution] help with filters

2008-11-29 Thread HggdH
That being said, when I re-setup my accounts from scratch I needed to
setup my filters in order to control the flood of mails I get. I used
the right-click menu (Create Rule From Message - Filter Based On
Mailing List). I then set the directory to move the message to which
is a folder on the IMAP server where my account is located.

The problem comes around when I try to manually trigger the filter on
a relevant message by pressing ctrl+y - in fact the message in
question is the one I created the filter from in the first place.
When I do this I get a message at the bottom of the Evolution window
stating that it failed to apply the filter (or some similar wording).

Hi Jared,

Just a curiosity, since you said you are using IMAP: Can you please show
us the piece of the ./evolution/mail/filters.xml that has the rule?

I just noticed something, but I do not know since when this has
happened: the last filter I created (moving to an IMAP target) had the
target uri wrong, pointing to the local mail. For example:

actionset
 part name=move-to-folder
  value name=folder type=folder
   folder uri=email://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/Tests/Mail/URI/
  /value
 /part
 part name=stop/
/actionset

The actual target URI should have been

 uri=email://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/Tests/Mail/URI/

Again, I do not know since when, and will run Evo 2.24 to see what
happens (I am running trunk).

Wow, yea, I just checked all of my filters.xml files and they all look
similar to your post with [EMAIL PROTECTED] in it. So, I will need to file
a bug in ubuntu for this as well as gnome.org? Also, how do I figure
out the correct [EMAIL PROTECTED] to replace in the uri?

You can run, from a terminal,

gconftools-2 -g /apps/evolution/mail/accounts

This will list all accounts you have defined. You can also try:

gconftool-2 -g /apps/evolution/mail/accounts | awk -F '=' '{print $2
$3}'

For me, this works. Then it is a question of choosing picking.

Yes, please open a bug in Launchpad, and one on b.g.o. If you give me
the bug #s, I will confirm mark triaged the LP one, and set a watch on
the b.g.o one. Please also state your version of Evo. You can run

dpkg -l evolution\*

And this will show the main packages versions.

I actually should have stopped and looked at it when I got hit, some
time ago, but...

It is good to know that this is present on on 2.24.

A word of caution: I just tried it here, on trunk: selected an email
that was ultimately destined to trash, and set a filter to move it to a
brand new IMAP folder (and the rule got set to [EMAIL PROTECTED]). Run the
filter and... the email vanished. Completely. Nowhere to be seen, not
even in trash.

Thank you,

[Evolution] Newbie Questions

2008-11-29 Thread Andrew J Fortune
Hi,

I'm a newbie Evolution user. I am also a Windows XP user, hence I am
using the version that has been ported to Windows.

I have numerous questions, and have not been able to find the answer by
looking at the documentation or the archives of this mailing list.

They are as follows :

(1) How do you import mail messages from Outlook Express ?
(2) How do you make Evolution the default mail client, when Outlook
Express is also on the system ? (can't just install OE AFAIK, its
integrated into the OS)
(3) How do you set unread mail messages to display in bold ? (...this
feature appears to be available, according to the Reading EMail
screenshot on the Evolution website)
(4) How do you completely delete a mail message (as opposed to sending
it to the Trash) ?
(5) How do you MOVE a mail message to another folder (as opposed to
COPYING, which is what happens when you click and drag) ?
(6) How do you save multiple messages in one hit, for backup purposes ?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

[Evolution] Evolution backup/restore problem

2008-11-29 Thread Simon Roberts
Hi all,

I just upgraded my main system from OpenSuSE 10.3 to 11.0. I use evolution for
my calendar and mail, and as I've done in the past, I made a backup of my home
directory before doing the new install. Then I copied back the contents of
~/.evolution, ~/.gconf/apps/evolution, and ~/.gnome2_private/Evolution. I
thought that was all I had done in the past, and that had been sufficient to
restore all my mail configurations, folders, etc. But this time it doesn't seem
to have worked. When I start evolution, it seems to come up as a new install,
and starts taking me through the wizard to set it all up.

Can anyone suggest what I might have done wrong?

TIA
Cheers,
Simon

Sorry but I looked here, and found answers to none of the questions,
except (4) which Evolution cryptically refers to as Expunge.
