Hi, even it's called cache, and there is some effort to move it to ~/.cache, then the remote calendars like CalDAV have there the local cache of the remote calendar, and when you delete it, then next start it'll fetch the whole calendar, instead of just items which changed. Though if your users ask for that, then that's their choice. I never heard about lost contact. Might be because evolution-data-server was running, having opened the cache file and you made changes there meanwhile. Hard to tell when your reporter is not willing to tell you what address book he is using. Just be sure you'll stop all evolution related processes before making any change in the ~/.evolution directory (or in evolution related files). Otherwise strange things can happen. (Evolution related processes are basically all having name evolution*.) Bye, Milan ___ Evolution-list mailing list Evolution-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list
[Evolution] configuration problem
I tried to configure Evolution and send a message but got the error message: Error while sending message: MAIL FROM command failed: Authentication required. Gmail works. I've got Ubuntu koala installed. I'm new at this, and I'm sure it's something trivial I'm missing. Any help would be much appreciated. Presumable your SMTP server requires authentication. You can set this up in the Preferences-account-Sending Email dialogue. There's a tickbox for Server requires authentication. You'll also need to indicate what kind. Use the Check for supported types button to see what the options are for your server. Gmail works. I've got Ubuntu koala installed. You mean it works for sending as well as receiving? If so, you can use the Gmail SMTP service for all your mail, as long as your ISP isn't blocking it. See the Gmail help pages for setting this up. poc ___ Evolution-list mailing list Evolution-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list
Re: [Evolution] Contacts difficulties/Milan
Brewster Gillett wrote: It would seem this may be a bug. Either that or there's an option switch I have not yet found that acts to override clear and simple instructions from the Contacts Editor. Hi, Milan Crha: I agree, sounds like a bug. I've no idea whether it was already filled or not, thus please look at https://bugzilla.gnome.org and try to find out. Brewster: I made a really thorough search of the bugzilla list, and could not turn up anything even close to this problem. If this *were* a bug, you'd think it would be getting talked about all over the map - but apparently it isn't. So that leads me to believe that it is some sort of optioning around address list sorting that I have not yet discovered, though I've been through every Help screen that could possibly cover it. I am really hesitant to take up space on the buglist with something that may not be a bug. If I am the only one experiencing this, which seems fairly evident, that sharply reduces the chances of it being a bug. It just defies the imagination that, if everyone running 2.28.1 was having their cards display in an order other than what they had specified in the Contact Editor, that would not be a much-discussed item. BTW Synaptics just yesterday downloaded and installed a good-sized (though not version-changing) update to Evo, and the problem is still there. Not unless you describe the problem. Saying it doesn't work is next to useless. You need to explain exactly what you're doing and exactly what happens. Include information on: * The version of Evo you have (Help-About) * The platform (operating system and version) * Is the problem on sending or receiving email? * Which kind of account produces the problem: IMAP, POP, Exchange, other * Can you access the account using a different email client? poc ___ Evolution-list mailing list Evolution-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

[Evolution] E-mail trouble
I have been trying to get evolution to work as my primary email. I have done a bit of research. I know that some times it sends mail because I sent one to a friend and he said he received the mail. I sent one to myself and I received the mail. In the outbox it does not say it has left but unsent. I also set up gmail and it transfered all my folders and turned them to labels which are basically folders. I am new to this ubuntu system. I genually like the system. I would like to someday be completely free of windows xp. The main problem now with evolution is I cannot enter my password into the transferring part, from yahoo. It will not accept my password when I enter it. Is this a common accorrence. [Evolution] Images painfully slow to download
Today I added the following comment to GNOME Bugzilla Bug 582591 - Images very slow to display. --- Each image (gif or jpg) in a html email takes20+ seconds to download and display. All of the delay is the download part. Atypical html email with several images takes minutes to download. In comparison Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 is lightning fast; just a few seconds. Evolution 2.28.1 Operating system - Ubuntu karmic koala 9.10 Server type - both imap and pop (makes no difference) Image type - both gif and jpg HP Pavilion dv8000 notebook with 3 gb memory I have IPV6 disabled by editing /etc/default/grub to include: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=ipv6.disable=1 quiet splash --- But I thought I'd also follow up on the evolution-list to see if anyone has a suggestion. I checked the archives and this problem has been around since at least 2006, maybe longer. Most people reported failure to download images, but my guess is they didn't wait long enough and eventually the images will download. Evolution downloads images one at a time with a long period of DNS(?) requests between. This morning I had a message from HP that contained 25 images in the html. After 5 minutes I walked away and returned several minutes later. By that time Evolution had downloaded all images and displayed them. Needless to say I've returned to Thunderbird for the time being. -- Ben ___ Evolution-list mailing list Evolution-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list
