[Evolution] Cannot get POP summary: Socket I/O timed out

2017-02-14 Thread Ralf Mardorf
Hi,

even after rebooting Evolution 3.22.5 can't retrieve Emails from two POP
accounts. It could retrieve Emails of a third POP account at the same
provider, using the same POP settings. Retrieving the Emails using Claws
works without issues for all three accounts and without any delay at
all.

What could I do to get rid of "Cannot get POP summary: Socket I/O timed
out" and to be able to retrieve Emails from all accounts with Evolution
again, too?

The problem isn't new, but it still seems to be unsolved:

https://www.google.de/?gws_rd=ssl#q=%22Cannot+get+POP+summary:+Socket+I%2FO+timed+out%22

Unfortunately I've got absolutely no time to debug.

Regards,
Ralf

F6 under GNOME to switch between panels.

Hi,
yes, cache is under cache.

As I wrote earlier, it's for one-time synchronization. Tools like rsync
and many other are for daily sync of two or more machines.

Tab or (Shift+)F6 are used to move between widgets. Or use Ctrl+G to
change folder, though it selects the message preview, which means a
Shift+F6 is required after that.

But I see that the email cache is under .cache/evolution, so I guess I need
that one as well.. Is this a good idea or should I just use the
Backup/Restore feature?

Also, is there a keyboard shortcut to move from the folder list to the message
list?

Thx... :-)
Yes, I though about the Backup/Restore settings but I guess that only restores
the config and not the cached emails, making Evolution resync all my
folders again?

Hi,
that's some RFC "standard". Allows quickly resynchronize folder
changes, instead of asking for flags of all messages. The IMAPx can
sometimes get out of sync, thus it's currently off by default.

> > Does anyone know if Dovecot supports this?

If its CAPABILITIES response contains something like QRESYNC, then yes.

> > - "Listen for server change notifications", thats the same as IMAP
> > IDLE?

Similar. It covers NOTIFY extension as well (when NOTIFY is part of
CAPABILITIES response). The 3.22.5 eds has a fix for NOTIFY [1].

> > If so, does it support all folders or just the Inbox?

IDLE is for one folder only, NOTIFY is for any. Inbox for IDLE is
usually preferred.

> > - If previous is IMAP IDLE, does Evolution still need/use the poll
> > intervall setting?

Yes, it can use it, but it doesn't need it (unless the server
disconnects for inactivity before the 30 minute interval, which is
suggested by the IMAP 4rev1 RFC).

> Forgot one thing, I guess I can tar my evolution folder under .config

Mostly. I'd use also ~/.local/share/evolution/. See
https://help.gnome.org/users/evolution/stable/data-storage.html.en
Though File->Backup/Restore settings is designed for one time config
synchronization.

[Evolution] Moving from Claws Mail to Evolution...

2017-02-14 Thread Bjørn T Johansen
Hi.

I am going to give Evolution a real go as my main MUA (and not just as an
Exchange client) and I have some questions:

- What does "Use Quick Resync if the server supports it" do? Does anyone know
if Dovecot supports this?
- "Listen for server change notifications", thats the same as IMAP IDLE? If so,
does it support all folders or just the Inbox?
- If previous is IMAP IDLE, does Evolution still need/use the poll intervall
setting?

Anything else I should know/good to know? :-)

Regards,

BTJ

Hi,
you probably mean "Close connection after each request". That's always
done with CalDAV/WebDAV calendar/book.

Hmm, code 200 isn't "failure", but "success".

Maybe fixed several months ago. As poc said, your evolution version is
important (eventually evolution-data-server). The Yandex server version
might be interesting as well. Note that DAViCal, Zimbra, ownCloud and
even Google and Yahoo! CalDAV servers do not have this issue.

By the way, run the calendar factory from a terminal and then open
evolution to see what it does in the background. That can be done as
this:

   $ CALDAV_DEBUG=all /usr/libexec/evolution-calendar-factory -w

Your distribution can have it stored elsewhere.

You don't say what version of Evolution you have (see Help->About).

Also, it's best to report this kind of problem to Bugzilla, where it
will remain on record. Post the report number here if you like, but if
you don't use BZ there's a strong chance that the problem will be
forgotten.

[Evolution] Yandex Caldav/Carddav

Caldav Synchronizer for MS Outlook requires to fill-in the check box
"Break connection after each request".

Whet one tries to modify an entry of a meeting, task or contact stored
by Evolution for the first time it says that there was a mistake with
event code 200 (Ok), and for the second time it says that there was a
conflict, event code 409.

Could you please fix Caldav/Carddav sycnrhonization with Yandex
servers?##SELECTION_END##

Hi,
you are right, GConf is too old, not used for years. Up to date
information is in the User Documentation, namely here:
https://help.gnome.org/users/evolution/stable/mail-filters-not-working.html.en

If I read Aditya's message properly, then it had been used.

I found the logging inefficient for real debugging purposes of the
filters, because it only logs what succeeded, not what failed. My
recent issue was that the value I've been checking for in the filter
rule didn't actually match the value the filter itself read from the
message. That is, it can depend on the actual filter rules and the used
values whether they are applied or not.

Aditya, you mentioned POP account, there is no distinguishing between
unread and newly recognized message, they behave the same. The filters
are run when the message is copied into On This Computer/Inbox.
I also do not see any option to disable filtering for POP accounts,
thus the filters should be applied always for newly received messages
in the POP account.

Did the filters apply properly when you executed them manually? You
mentioned that the log contained some information only when you
manually applied them, but I'm unsure whether it were filters you
expected to be run automatically or any other.
