It's important always to say what version of Evolution as not everyone
knows what Kubuntu has. See Help->About.

Hard to say what Hotmail is doing wrong without a full example message.
:) Which Hotmail options did you enable? This is webmail?

[Evolution] Evolution Encryption GPG Hotmail Account Problem

2017-07-20 Thread adg adg82439
Hi,

I use on my Linux PC with Kubuntu 16.04, Evolution as email program.

As I try to use GnuPG encryption for email, I find,
when I encrypt a mail in Evolution and send it from a non Hotmail account
to a hotmail account, it is recognized in Evolution and offered a
comfortable decrypt option.

This is OK.

When I answer encrypted from the Hotmail account in Evolution
it receives in Evolution just as a cryptic emailtxt but not with the option
to decrypt.

As I do not want copy and paste the content to a file and decrypt the file,
it should be a better way, I hope.

It might be a loss of recognition when sent over Hotmail account.

Does anyone know how to handle that problem?

Thanks in advance.

Using fedora 26.

I believe passwords are stored in the Gnome keyring. By default they are
decrypted with the login password.

The keyring files are stored in either ~/.gnome2/keyrings or in later
versions like Fedora 26 in ~/.local/share/keyrings. So you might need to
move the files if you're restoring from a very old backup.

Email accounts are in ~/.config/evolution, I am pretty sure. Really old
versions may have it in .evolution or .gnome2/evolution, I don't recall
exactly.

If you used Gnome Online Accounts to set them up, be careful. A while
ago I ended up with duplicated email accounts because the hostname of my
laptop changed so GOA decided to rebuild new copies of all of the
accounts. I had to delete and recreate all of the accounts.

I did file a bug so it may have been fixed. I never checked since
building new copies of everything Gnome and doing test restores of
backup copies to new machines with different names really didn't appeal
to me.

I've always assumed this was a 'paging' thing.

I do not recall seeing it using IMAP (which I use all day every day),
or at least not with IMAPx.

Hi,

what exactly isn't working, resp. what errors do you get?

> Using fedora 26.

What version of Evolution did you use on the old computer and what
version of Evolution do you use to restore from the backup? IIUC you
tried to use "File > Restore Evolution Data..." or did you restore from
a /home/$USER backup?

Ralf

Why not?
What happens and when?
What does not happen?
What's the error message?
How large is your backup file?
Which Evolution version did you use on the old machine?

Further to Milan's help, I set Gmail to only allow POP for 'mail received from
now on' or words to that effect, and that has solved my problem. Many thanks to

Restoring backup is not working for me.

Using fedora 26.

Hi Milan.

I could not understand the log, so I am grateful to you for
investigating. I have tweaked my Gmail settings and will see if it
makes any difference.

I have learnt a lot about Evo during this exercise - thank you to all
who responded.

Hi,
if I read the log properly, then it basically shows that there had been
18 messages reported by the server, then, the next time, two new
messages had been recognized and downloaded. The GUI shows something
like "Retrieving POP message NNN" in the status bar, where the NNN is
some sort of internal ID, similar to the number IMAP shows, or even
EWS, which has pretty long base64-like IDs. This ID is not meant as a
counter of messages to be downloaded, and it never was.

Is that what confused you, or I misunderstood your claim?

Hi,
there's a setting for it, like when you open https://mail.google.com ,
then click the gear button, there Preferences, there the tab with
POP/IMAP settings. You can choose what the server shows to the client,
both with POP and IMAP.
