[Evolution] Evolution 3.28.1: Incorrect quoting of text emails

2018-06-17 Thread Paul Smith
Hi all; I recently upgraded my system to Ubuntu 18.04 which provides
Evolution 3.28.1 (from Evolution 3.26).

I've noticed an annoying issue: quoting of quoted messages is broken
when replying to plain text email in HTML mode. For example if I
receive a plain text email and it includes some quoted text like this:

> here is a quote

and here is a response

and I reply to this message with my composer preference set to HTML
mode, then the composer shows a response where the quoted text is at
the same quoting level as the normal text. That is, instead of:

> > here is a quote
>
> and here is a response

I just get (in HTML of course):

> here is a quote
>
> and here is a response

And this is true no matter how many levels of quoting there are in the
original email, everything is reduced to a single level. Converting
this message to plain text doesn't fix it.

If I'm replying to an HTML email, quoting works properly.

If I change my composer preference to disable HTML by default, then it
all works properly: the plain text reply has all the correct quoting.
If I convert the message to HTML it keeps the correct quoting.

Has anyone else run into this with Evolution 3.28?

Cheers!

[Evolution] FREEBUSY capabilities

2018-06-17 Thread Дилян Палаузов
Hello,

How does Evolution handle exactly the FREEBUSY information in 3.28.2
exactly work?

1) https://help.gnome.org/users/evolution/stable/calendar-free-busy.htm
l.en does not say anything about where the freebusy parameter requests
are defined, is http://www.calconnect.org/pubdocs/CD0903%20Freebusy%20R
ead%20URL.pdf followed, as Cyrus IMAP does when exposing
https://server/freebusy/user/xyz ?

2) https://help.gnome.org/users/evolution/stable/calendar-publishing.ht
ml.en says that Calendar and Free/Busy information can be published by
the 'Publishing Information' window.

Is the "Default Free/Busy Server" in Evolution Preferences > Publishing
Information > Template used only for dowanloading data, or only for
publishing by the current user, as the tab title suggests, or for both
downloading and uploading?

3) Does "In corporate environments you can publish Calendar and
Free/Busy information to an Exchange or Groupwise server" from https://
help.gnome.org/users/evolution/stable/calendar-free-busy.html.en mean,
that the whole calender with all events is published to
Exchange/Groupware, or does it mean that the individual events are
uploaded (over CalDav) to a Groupware server and the server calculates
from the VEVENT the free-busy information?

4) Does Evolution utilize somehow the VAVAILABILITY components?

5) Imagine a user has a calendar available at https://mail.aegee.org/da
v/calendars/user/milan.crha/Default and a freebusy url at https://mail.
aegee.org/freebusy/user/milan.crha .

Does Evolution consider the busy times if only the calender URL is
entered in the contact (the vCard has no FBURL, but a CALURL)?

6) Any ideas why on my system Evolution/EDS works with CalDav+Carddav
on https://mail.aegee.org/dav , but when I enter as FREEBUSY URL on a
contact the URL https://mail.aegee.org/freebusy/user/milan.crha and go
to New Meeting > Schedule tab, add a contact with the FBURL above, the
console, where Evolution is started, shows the warning "Operation not
supported", coming from src/calenendar/gui/e-meetings-
store.c:start_async_read:
file = g_file_for_url (" https://mail.aegee.org/freebusy/user/milan.crh
a")
g_file_read(file, NULL, ); -> by now error->message is "Operation
not supported"?

Greetings

Could you please link to a corresponding bug report for that problem?

Also see https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution-rss/commits/master to
get an impression of latest development activity.

You might want to register your suggestion as a Request For Enhancement
on the Bugzilla page. Otherwise it will likely be forgotten.

Re: [Evolution] send in background

2018-06-17 Thread Gary Curtin
Thanks for the reply Pete.

I suspected that was as close to send in background as I could get, but
was still hoping there may be something more.

I guess it is just from habit that as soon as I click send, I expect
the window to close so I can get on with other things. Yes, I can click
again on the main Evolution window and continue, but again I was hoping
for a little more.

I suppose things are different for you as it does take a few seconds
before the window closes on my computer. I guess from years of gaming
my mouse reflexes are very fast. :-)

Yes, you are absolutely correct about what I want, and you also have a
few good points. However, there is the message pane that appears below
the tool bar when things go wrong, so that just seems like double
notifications.

I guess I just need to adjust if I can't have it setup to what I am
used to. Except for this issue and the RSS problem, I am quite happy
with Evolution.

That is, effectively, "send in background".

I suspect it's Evolution storing the mail in the sent folder. You don't
say what sort of mail account it is, but if your sent messages are on
an IMAP account, then there may be some network delays. When you say
"small delay", what do you mean? 0.5s, 1s, 5s, 3 minutes?

But, I don't really understand the problem - you can have multiple
compose windows open and there's nothing to stop you from starting to
compose another email while the other one spends time sending.
Besides, yes, the compose window stays open while things are finished,
but TBH I don't think I could physically move the mouse fast enough
between clicking "Send" and getting to the message window and clicking
"New" or selecting a new message and clicking "Reply".

I suppose if you have a small screen and the compose window covers the
main window, then that might be frustrating (although I've never seen
the delay being long enough to cause an issue unless there's a network
problem). What you are effectively saying you want is for the compose
window to disappear as soon as you press send? I think the problem
with that is the sending status messages appear in that window and if
there are problems with sending, the composed message needs to be shown
so that the user can decide what to do (Try Again / Save as draft /
Discard / Cancel).

[Evolution] send in background

2018-06-17 Thread Gary Curtin
Having been a Thunderbird user for many years, in that application I
had set message sending to be in background. I am so used to starting a
new message after clicking send, that the delay while the message is
sent is causing me some frustration. I since selected to send messages
through Outbox folder, which reduced the time significantly, but there
is still some small delay before the compose window is closed.

Any idea how to improve on this with Evolution3.28.1-2 on Ubuntu 18.04?___

[Evolution] evolution RSS

2018-06-17 Thread Gary Curtin
Wondering what the status is of evolution-rss? I had previously tried
it on a fresh install of Ubuntu 17.04, but Evolution kept crashing
after I added a feed. So after I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04,
using Evolution 3.28.1-2 and evolution-rss 0.3.95-8build2 amd64, the
same thing happened.
