No, but you might want to file an RFE (Request For Enhancement) on the
bug reporting page.

Thanks, that did the trick.
So that you get pestered with this question less frequently, add a
suggestion about the "Show" dropdown to the "No message4s satisfy the
search criteria" message. Something like "Check the Show dropdown on
the left side of the Search box."

Evolution:  3.40.4 (flatpak git8bc9e45)
Linux: Kernel: 5.4.0-80-generic x86_64 bits: 64
 Desktop: MATE 1.22.2

I was helping my father with his Thunderbird setup and stumbled into their
 attachment option..
it allow a user defined size of attachment to be thrown to a cloud storage
service and embeds
a link in the out going email.

Is there a similar function available for Evolution?

And yes, I checked in the plugin manager and didn't see anything resembling what
I'm looking for.

Thanks.

[Evolution] Stuck on failed search

2021-08-10 Thread Van Snyder
I'm using Debian 10 "Buster." The version of Evolution that it installs
is 3.30.5-1.1.

Yesterday, on only one account, and only in the inbox, not the sent box
or the archive box, instead of showing the list of messages, it showed
"No messages satisfy the search criteria."

The search box is empty.

I tried putting something into the search box, something I know
pertains to one of the messages (which I can read on another computer).

The condition persists.

I closed and restarted evolution.

The condition persists.

How can I clear this, short of deleting the account and starting over?

As you say, your version of Evo is very out of date. The proper way to
update it is using your Linux distro's package manager.

Also, you don't say which spam filter you use, but if you're using
Gmail's spam detection system then you're probably better just
disabling the spam filter in Evolution. That's what I do as in my
experience the Gmail one is much more effective.

You are using Mint 19.3. That is a LTS release and comes with some
caveats which you ought to be aware of: namely the application software
is usually locked at specific versions. Mint/Canonical doesn't develop
Gnome or it's components, so the software will continue to be developed
leaving old versions behind. Evolution (and Gnome) is now at 3.40,
bugs are generally fixed for versions one behind, so 3.38 and 3.40. New
features are implemented in the development version 3.41. The
evolution developers will not deal with any other versions.

In producing a LTS version of their OS, Mint developers (presumably
ultimately Canonical) are committed to back porting bug fixes into the
version they provide. It is unlikely they will do the same for feature
updates, but that is up to Canonical and you need to ask on the Mint
support forums.

Nobody ever said so, and I don't know why you'd think so.

Nobody ever said so, and I don't know why you'd think so. However, we
cannot travel back three years in time to fix your three year old
version that you decided to run. That's why I recommended to upgrade.

I have no idea why you'd want to "play with the settings" though, as
that would not solve any problem. See my previous reply.

See my previous reply: If you don't want to stick with ancient buggy
software versions, upgrade to recent less buggy software versions.

(I have no idea what a "standard version" is, though - if you think
that your distro ships a "standard version", you could talk to your
distro to update that "standard version" as the packages that you use
are provided by your distro and not by us.)

You chose to use a conservative LTS version of some distro, so you get
the package versions of that conservative LTS distro, basically. The
package update policy of your distro is up to your distro, not us.

That's what has happened within the last three years of development,
however you are running a software version from three years ago.

So you've been using Evolution for 15 years, been getting peeved with
the built-in editor all that time, and never explored the External

One thing I've learned over the years of using many different types of
OS's, but mainly *nix, is that the open source community, in general,
wants you to use the correct tools for you. If that means using Windows
or MacOS or iOS or whatever, then do so. False rivalries and
threatening to jump ship to a different app or OS is pointless. If you
can find a different mail app or a different platform that suits your
needs better, then go for it.

Re: [Evolution] AAARRRGGGGGG REEEALLY Need an HTML editor

2021-08-10 Thread sdisemi
Dear Andre,

So, as a highly experienced user of a standard, mainstream
version of linux, using the standard version of evolution which the apt-
get system installed for me, my problems are all my own fault, and my
requests for a new feature are worthless. Why on earth would I expect a
piece of linux software to work out of the box without spending weeks
playing with the settings ? How stupid of me.

This seems a (sadly)
familiar concept.

Oh well, I suppose I'll just have to go on suffering
the countless html coding errors this standard version of evolution has
suffered from since I started using it 15 years ago.

BTW here is what
the world "development" as in "software development" means:-

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/development
"the
process in which someone or something grows or changes and becomes more
advanced:"

Now, I will also unsubscribe myself again from this
pointless mailing list.

[Evolution] AAARRRGGGGGG REEEALLY Need an HTML editor

2021-08-10 Thread sdisemi
I am using MINT 19.3 CINNAMON V 4.4.8 LINUX KERNEL 5.4.0-80-GENERIC

THE EVOLUTION IS 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.2

I have been using evolution
for the last 15 years or so.

So, I define myself as an expert user, a
bit like Gandalf the Grey is an expert wizard.

IMHO Evolution is
pretty good on the whole.
But, there are a few annoying problems.

For
example, the html WYSIWYG editor sucks heavily.

I realize nobody every
wrote a satisfactory html WYSIWYG writer.

So, all I'm asking for is an
html editor.
Then, I can manually edit the f***ked up HTML written by
evolution every now and again, and then send out the message i have
manually written the html for.

Can you implement this new feature
please, before I go mad ?

Believe me, I really am like Gandalf the
Wizard as far as being a linux user is concerned.
You really need to
listen to me and do what I say, before Sauron (AKA B. Gates) takes
over.

Thanks.
