I don't know if that's the best way or there are other options, any suggestion is very welcome. Apart from that, as far as I understand it's all in google's hands and we don't have any option at the moment to see labels exported into the CardDAV interface, or are we aware there is any kind of plan for it in the future? And, finally, I am thinking about adding all the categories to the contacts shown in evolution to reflect the google labels (>2k contacts, and some dozens of categories... I can do it manually (argh!), but could there be any semi-automated way?). This would lead to duplicated and not consistent data, and what if in the future google extends the CardDAV interface? [Evolution] Evolution doesn't show google contacts categories any more
Hi, I have just realized that my Address book doesn't show contacts categories as it usually did in the past. The contacts belong to a google contacts address book, that is configured in evo in two ways: - "Type: google" - "Type: " and both miss the categories (i.e. the "Categories" field is blank), in both of these two scenarios: - in a custom view where I added a "category" column; - if I open the window of a single contact. The categories are present, as usual, as labels in the google contacts web page. I don't know if I did anything wrong, or if it's a problem in evo itself. [Evolution] Cut & paste problems
Hi, from time to time (and indeed quite frequently) I have problems with cut(/copy) from evolution and paste into another application (e.g. gedit, firefox). It's very annoying, and the only workaround I found is to restart evo (using evolution --force-shutdown, because if I simply close and reopen it the problem is still there). Then the problem may appear again after a while. Today it seems even worse, because if I copy something from evo and paste into firefox, then firefox freezes. Gedit does not paste, but does not freeze. The "paste" does not work not only if I do it by ctrl+C/ctrl+V, but also if I do it by "select and mid-click". It works if I copy/paste inside evo itself. It works if I copy something from another application (e.g. gedit, firefox) and paste it into evo. The behaviour is the same when copying some text from a message window or from the composer. Using keyboard or mouse also makes the same things happen. Can anybody please help me? Is it a known bug? Evolution 3.38.4 (3.38.4-1.fc33) Many thanks, best regards Andrea ___ evolution-list mailing list evolution-list@gnome.org To change your list options or unsubscribe, visit ... https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

To keep track of my workflow, I use to send a message to myself, then reply, select all the text, remove the (many) quotation marks and edit the (now unquoted) text, send the new message to myself and then some time after (usually one day) I do the same thing with the new message, and so on. Somewhere in time in the past, it was possible to remove the quotation marks by using one command only (ctrl+[), see [1]. Since the change mentioned in [1], I obtain the same effect by selecting the text, changing the format to "bulleted list" and then back to "normal". This is quite a bit more time-consuming than the past trick (not only for the need of two commands instead of one, but also because I have to use the mouse to perform it), but (as you can see :-)) I have got used to it for years. Now, I don't know if this kind of usage could be involved (or lost) by the change you are querying about. If it's not, sorry for the noise. [Evolution] Problem viewing .eml attachment
Hi, I cannot view an eml attachment in evolution 3.22.6. The eml is displayed correctly in another mail client. I found this one in the list archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/evolution-list/2009-November/msg00120.html but if I click on the arrow, it expands only a blank line (actually, the line appears already expanded when I open the message). Double- click on the attach itself in the attachment bar does nothing. Is there anything else I can do, or should I open a bug for it, or something else? [Evolution] Find which folder a message belongs to
Hi, in evolution 3.22.6 I perform a search on "All accounts" to find a message in my message/account tree. When I find the message I want (it is displayed in the right pane) I would like to know the account and folder that contains the message. Is it possible? [Evolution] Cannot delete address book
Hi, I am running evo 3.22.6 (Fedora 25) and I'm afraid I have one misconfigured address book. I have an account set up in Google Online Accounts and enabled for "Contacts". The contacts from the address book show correctly in evolution, and this address book seems working. But there is another item with the same name in the left pane (the appearence is: [down arrow] Contacts , exactly the same as the "working" one). If I click on "contacts", it shows the same contacts, so I would like to delete it. How can I get rid of it? If I right-click on it, there is no "delete" option. If I disable the account in GOA, the working address book disappears from evo (as expected), but the "faulty" one remains listed. Moreover, from time to time an error appears in the upper bar: "cannot perform the search" [translation mine], and sometimes (not sure if related to the error) I notice that evolution-address-book factory increases my CPU and memory utilization to very high values. [Evolution] Remove attachments
Hi, I am having some trouble removing the attachments from some messages. Briefly, it apparently doesn't work, i.e. if I right-click the message and choose "Remove attachments", nothing seems to happen. This happens on some messages, but it works with others. Didn't found anything in the list nor in bugzilla, so is there anything I can do to track the problem down, before maybe file a new bug? evo 3.18.5.2 Thanks, Andrea ___ evolution-list mailing list evolution-list@gnome.org To change your list options or unsubscribe, visit ... https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

I'm afraid I'm not able to fully debug the evolution(-data-server) 3.12.11, the IMAPx code is evolving (and devolving) all the time, some bugs are fixed, some added, I do not recall all of them, I only know there were similar issues, though not the same. The few of latest are: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=751329 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746828 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=743533 All landed for 3.16.x only. You can ask your distribution maintainers to backport those patches to 3.12.11 of evolution-data-server, Ok I could try to do that, if necessary. though it'll be probably easier to install a virtual machine with some distribution which provides latest stable evolution (the current version is 3.16.4, which is the version where one of the fixes from the above bug landed). You'll be able to safely test whether the latest version behaves any better than your distribution version without breaking your environment. Hi Milan, I have set up a VM with evo 3.16.2.1 and the problem does not happen there. The account I set up in 3.16.2.1 is exactly the same as the one in 3.12.11 (I manually copied each option). The only difference I am aware of is that the working Evo has only 1 account defined, the faulty one has more accounts. Just to be sure the problem was not related to having more than 1 account active (and don't want to set up tons of parameters in multiple accounts (By the way: it were nice to have a feature to backup the configuration of one (or more) account(s) and restore in another Evo installation)), I disabled all other accounts in the faulty Evo, and the problem still occurs there. by the way, this misbehaviour is quite unexpected, if you didn't change anything on the evolution(-data-server) version side. Is it not possible that the distribution pushed an evolution-data-server update? As far as I can understand the answer is no: the evolution-data-server package I have installed is called v. 3.12.11-0ubuntu1, which (according to [1]) was released on 2015-02-23 Now, is there anything else I can try? Maybe setting up evo 3.12.11 in a new user account (as Patrick suggested) in the same machine of the faulty one could help to understand if something is related to some processes, file system issues, or don't know what else... Sorry, I would like to understand this fully, before making something wrong or something I wouldn't like. Is the IMAP configuration through GOA better, or even recommended, than configuring it directly from Evo? Why? I have always thought that a direct configuration would be better, because (among other reasons) there are less pieces of (possibly faulty) software in the middle. So, if configuring a GOA gmail account is not strictly needed to solve this problem, I would prefer not to do it. The other question would be: is not the direct configuration of IMAP in Evo supported/working fine? IMAP does work in Evo, but remember that Google's implementation of IMAP in Gmail is unusual. Whether that is related to your problem or not is hard to tell, but I know I did see a positive effect when I changed to using GOA after many years of having manually configured Gmail accounts. For one thing updating seemed to be much faster and less error-prone (though this may have been due to updating Evo to version 3.16.x). I have no idea why this should be so, but it's important to note that Evolution is part of the wider Gnome system (even though I use it under KDE) so other stuff is going on that may not be directly visible. Perhaps Milan could expand on this. I can add another test case, maybe interesting. One of the disappearing folder is the [Gmail]/Draft subfolder, which I use as the default draft folder in evo. If I have a draft message opened, and the folders disappear while it is opened, and I edit the message and I save it, if I have access to the folder again (directly into gmail, for example) I can view the message correctly updated. So, it seems that Evo does not lose completely the connection with the folders, but it simply does not show them in the tree. I was assuming that in any case. If Evo loses connection with an account it will give a very visible warning. One last thing that I have just noticed: I have 2 other IMAP accounts set up in Evo, and both have the same problem. So, I think the cause should not searched in the single account itself. Moreover, the disappearing happen in the same moment, i.e. the folders of the three accounts disappear simultaneously. And, finally, making the folders re-appear in one account (using the unsubscribe-resubscribe workaround) does not make them appear in the other accounts, so here each one seem to be independent from the other ones. I presume these are not Gmail accounts? Do you also have any POP accounts that exhibit the same problem? Yes they are Gmail accounts. I have no POP accounts in my evo setup. BTW, I was not aware of any POP implementation that let you use folders (and folder subscriptions), does it exist? One option is to create a completely fresh user on your system, log in and configure Evolution to access your accounts, then see how it behaves. To minimize the number of variables, log out of your normal user account first (or at least shut down Evo). Leave all the Preferences set to default values and see what happens. Check if the database error still appears for the new user. If that still doesn't work I can only suggest you update Evo to the latest version (3.16.x) if possible. Thank you Patrick, I will save these suggestions for a later time, in case the help of Milan won't solve the problem. Weird it happens to you, I have configured a GMail account directly in the evolution too, for many months, and I do not recall seeing any such issue. Well, I confirm it looks very strange to me too, because it's been working for years, and I did not change anything in the configuration of gmail or evo, recently. The only thing I did is run evolution after some days of inactivity... I also had the out-of-office gmail option active last week (and it has been automatically disabled by gmail), that's the only change I am aware of in terms of gmail account. There had been bug reports about disappearing IMAP folders, mostly related to public folders or subscriptions. These had been fixed for 3.16.3/3.16.4 for sure. OK thanks for the info, I could even consider to upgrade (and maybe change distribution (!)) if it will be strictly necessary I do not think unchecking Show only subscribed folders in account preferences will make any difference, the problem will be most likely elsewhere. I hadn't noticed that the problem is related to a Gmail account. Two things come to mind: 1) Check (using the Gmail web interface) that the folders are enabled for IMAP using the Show in IMAP box for each label under Settings/Labels. Ok, double checked and they are enabled. But, if they were not enabled, I would have expected to not viewing them in evo at all, instead of viewing them and have them disappear after some time... or am I missing something? And of course make sure the folders are subscribed to from Evolution (I know you said they were, but check). Ok, double checked this too. The folders are subscribed. I have the same thought here as above (if they were not subscribed I would expect a different behaviour, wouldn't I?) I also tried to unsubscribe a folder and then re-subscribe it in evo, and if the folder [Gmail] was missing this makes it appear again with its subfolders. After a short time, again they disappear, but al least I can use this method as a temporary work around to the problem (unsubscribe and re-subscribe is simpler than closing and re-running evo). 2) Was your account configured using Google Online Accounts? No, it was configured directly in Evo, if I understand correctly. In GOA, the item called Evolution Data Server - Access your GMail is OFF, if this is what you mean. The only GOA item set to ON is Evolution Data Server - Access your Google Contacts. The faulty IMAP account was created by adding it from the Evo Preferences window. If not, you might want to reconfigure it, i.e. delete the account from Evo and re-create it using GOA. I can add another test case, maybe interesting. One of the disappearing folder is the [Gmail]/Draft subfolder, which I use as the default draft folder in evo. If I have a draft message opened, and the folders disappear while it is opened, and I edit the message and I save it, if I have access to the folder again (directly into gmail, for example) I can view the message correctly updated. So, it seems that Evo does not lose completely the connection with the folders, but it simply does not show them in the tree. One last thing that I have just noticed: I have 2 other IMAP accounts set up in Evo, and both have the same problem. So, I think the cause should not searched in the single account itself. Moreover, the disappearing happen in the same moment, i.e. the folders

[Evolution] IMAP Folders disappear
Hi all, I am experiencing a problem, since this morning, when I opened Evo after 10 days of inactivity. After some minutes, suddenly the main folder of my IMAP account disappears. There are also several subfolders in there, which I am subscribed to, and they also disappear. (With main folder I mean the folder named [Gmail] in my GMail IMAP account). The problem seems to be unrelated to any event I am aware of. The problem is reproducible, i.e. it happens every time I launch evolution (closing and restarting evo makes the folders visible again, until it happens again). I have tried to investigate the problem by myself (searching on google and in the list archives, with no luck), and CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution 21 gives me, after the problem happens: === DB SQL operation [BEGIN] started Camel SQL Exec: BEGIN Camel SQL Exec: CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS Deletes (id INTEGER primary key AUTOINCREMENT not null, uid TEXT, time TEXT, mailbox TEXT) Camel SQL Exec: INSERT OR REPLACE INTO Deletes (uid, mailbox, time) SELECT uid, '[Gmail]', strftime(%s, 'now') FROM '[Gmail]' Error in SQL EXEC statement: INSERT OR REPLACE INTO Deletes (uid, mailbox, time) SELECT uid, '[Gmail]', strftime(%s, 'now') FROM '[Gmail]' [no such table: [Gmail]]. There is also no standard facility to store such flags on the server, at least not on most of them (I think an Exchange server has a property for it). The CalDAV doesn't have any such standard setting, as far as I know, thus the interoperability between two independent applications is equal to none in this case. As it's all locally stored in the Evolution then even two Evolution instances on two different machines will repeat/not-know-about-snooze being done in the other instance, despite being connected to the same server and calendar. Hi, I would like a couple of details, please, because I am wondering about this behaviour since I switched to evolution from MS Outlook many years ago. Now I use to sync my appointments between evo and my Samsung smart-phone using my google account... does all you say about CalDAV apply to my case too? i.e., is a google account calendar equivalent to CalDAV? Sorry, I am a bit confused here. When I used to use outlook and another smartphone (with windows mobile) it happened that each device was aware of the snooze/dismiss being selected on the other one. This was great, because now it is quite annoying give twice (or more) the same command (snooze/dismiss etc) to different devices. I know that it was a totally different syncing technology there, but it would be really wonderful if evo will be able to do the same. Hi, configuring an account in GOA doesn't fix your already configured Contacts (or any other google sources). GOA accounts are shown as a separate branch on the left, usually with your Google email as the root node (on the same level as the Google or On This Computer nodes). It could sometimes happen that the evolution-source-registry (or the factories) didn't pick the GOA account addition properly. Try to restart the machine (re-login), which should make things work, especially when the goa-daemon process will be run on the machine start. Ok, I had to reboot Ubuntu to have my GOA account appear (simply logging off and on did not do it). Hi, as Patrick said, general rule is to provide your version of the Evolution as well, it helps. In this particular case, also the current development version is affected, because not only OAuth-1 was stopped, but also the ClientLogin, which the Google books (and calendars) configured directly in the Evolution were using. Evolution doesn't support OAuth2 directly, but it does support it indirectly, through GNOME Online Accounts, which means to configure your Google account in there and enable only parts you are interested in, like here disable all but Contacts. Evolution will pick it and offer the book in the Contacts view. If you run other than gnome-shell, then make sure you've installed gnome-control-center, then run it and choose there Online Accounts, where you can manage the accounts and such. The plus of this is that you do not need an application specific password when using GNOME Online Accounts. [Evolution] Empty cache file errors
Hi all, I am new to the list, I have subscribed recently to address some problems that I experience with evolution. The current problem has raised after upgrading from Ubuntu Trusty to Utopic (that is, from evo 3.10.4 to 3.12.10 which is my current evo version): sometimes the error message Empty cache file comes up. I have found some talks about this problem on this list some time ago, but they were not enough clear to me to understand and solve my problem. Unfortunately, I am not able to say under which circumstances the error appears: sometimes when a message arrives, or perhaps when I move a message from one folder to another (but I cannot say it for sure).
