Mea culpa on that one.. too many machines. My primary machine shows the
completion issue was running the Linux Mint repository version when all
my other machines are running Flatpak and I didn't catch that
difference. Guess that's what happens when you have 5 hardware
failures in 6 weeks.

Loaded the Flatpak version 3.44.2 (by Flathub.org) and completion issue
goes away.

Thanks for all the assistance.

Hi,
when you let it cache the Global Address List (GAL), then you get
quicker responses and much more information about the contacts. It will
use significantly more disk space too (depending on the address book
size). Such change will probably require restart of the address book
factory, thus `evolution --force-shutdown` as a shortcut, then some
time to download the GAL.

I have the Offline Address Book, I see that cache is not set ATM though. Should
I set cache

Hi,
it can depend on the mail account settings, specifically whether you
use the Offline Address Book or not. It influences how the Global

Hi,
yeah, it depends on the audience. The software is supported by the
distribution, not by the upstream developers. That's a giant
difference.

The 3.36.5 had been released on 2020-08-07. It's almost two years of
development and bug fixes (and new bugs, eeks). Not only in the
Evolution itself, but also in all its dependencies.

For what it's worth, since that 3.36.5 release the src/ directory
received 462 commits in the Evolution (3.44.x, the current stable
series) as of writing this message. The evolution-data-server only 283
and evolution-ews 71. It's only the commit count, what they
did/fixed/broke is another question. The dependencies like glib, gtk3,
WebKitGTK and so on surely many more.

I know it looks differently from the developer's point of view, but I still
don't think it is the right term to call "ancient" a release that is
included in an OS distribution being currently supported and used by a large
group of users... :)

If this were a release that is 10 years old, I would agree to call it
"ancient" :)

Hi,
when you select the book in the Contacts view, will it show the
contacts? And when you search with "Name contains" and "Email begins
with" (it's under the magnifier icon), will the contacts be found?

Maybe run Evolution from a terminal, there are sometimes shown relevant
runtime warnings.

Nonetheless, your Evolution (and the evolution-data-server) is ancient,
there surely didn't change anything in the code, thus it's either a
problem in the settings or in the data.
