RE: [Evolution] Imap Hula/Evolution

2006-04-02 Thread guenther

I'm using Ubuntu breezy which contains Evolution 2.4.1, don't know if i
can update Evolution to 2.6, which is included in Dapper.

But changing the setting 'Use Secure Connection' to 'Never' seems to
solve the problem, I'm able to read message through imap.

This is exactly, what I was about to say, after catching up with the
thread (or rather, the bunch of threads...).

You mentioned in your OP, you set Use Secure Connection to Whenever
Possible. Later on you told us, the firewall got port 143 open only,
which is the default IMAP port.

The issue is, that the Secure Connections options are named badly, or
rather used to be (getting back to this). Always means SSL (port 993),
Whenever Possible means StartTLS -- which IIRC starts with port 143 and
uses 993 later on, or some such. Obviously your server does not have SSL
or TLS enabled, thus your choice should have been Never to use security.
Your server isn't configured to use it anyway, so why bother. ;)

However, the real issue behind this is, that the options where named
badly. Since 2.6.0, this is corrected and clearly states No encryption,
TLS and SSL encryption respectively.

Die, FAQ, die! :-)

hi,

Set CAMEL_DEBUG=1 and launch evolution from a terminal. The debug spew
can let us know what is wrong. Set the 'Use Secure Connection' to Always
or Never as dictated by the server setting.

With 2.6, you may be able to choose HULA as an account type to configure
Evolution against the server.

HTH,
Harish

Can evo / imap cope with spaces in the username?

 I hope nothing :-)

It doesn't listen to the imap port. The outlook clients probably use
 the
windows proprietary mail exchange protocol instead.

It listen to the imap port when doing a telnet server 143 I got a
 response.
The outlook client doesn't use MAPI for communicating with the Hula
server, the client is behind a firewall, and only port 143 is opened for
 the application.

I can only tell that connection refused means that nothing is
listening at the specified port. Maybe your firewall is blocking traffic
from your pc?

Maybe the problem was that you specified the IMAP port as '143'.
143 is the port for unsecure IMAP. IMAP-over-SSL, aka IMAPS is on port
993, and Evolution will automatically try that port only if you didn't
specify a port number.

... or maybe you didn't enable IMAP-OVER-SSL in Hula, or maybe you
enabled it on the wrong port.
