Re: [Evolution] Evo closes when clicking on folders or emails

2010-05-11 Thread Dianne Reuby
 I'm running Evo 2.28.3 on Ubuntu 10.04
Evo keeps closing, apparently at random, when I click on a folder or
 email message.
I haven't been able to pin this down to a certain email or folder - it
seems to happen sometimes and not at others.
Is there a log file that I could view to try and track this down?

Thanks for the advice - I forgot about apport! I had it installed - here
are the logs from the last two crashes:

[16893.013910] evolution[1434]: segfault at 1366d1d8 ip 06ac965e sp

As far as I know, the latest version of evolution on ubuntu 10.04 ist
2.30.xx, not 2.28.3. How did you install evolution, or how did you
install/upgrade ubuntu?
Anyway. If you have apport installed, you can send in the bug report.
I remember, you also get a link to the bugzilla web page where you
can enter more information on your problem.
Hope that helps!

Downloaded the iso and did a clean install with format (I had to
repartition anyway, and I wanted to cure a few problems in 9.10)

Just looked in synaptic, and that lists 2.28.3 as the latest - so don't
know why I haven't got 2.30, another puzzle.

I'm off to post my bug :)

This is not true. The Ubuntu devs were nervous about the infrastructure
changes made between Evo 2.28 and 2.30, given that 10.04 is an LTS
release, and so although they did upgrade to Gnome 2.30, they continue
to use Evolution 2.28.

Most of the Evo users I know disagreed with this strongly but they did
not change their minds.

You can build Evo 2.30* from source pretty easily on Lucid (and Karmic)
though, if you want. Building Evo from the git master branch is not
working for me right now.

You could install the apport package. It automatically generates
crash reports for debugging purposes which you can then send to the
maintainers.
Start the synaptic package management appliation, available in the
system menu somewhere. Then search for apport and install it.
Try to reproduce the error. If it is a program crash, apport will
catch it.
Hope that helps.

Run evolution from a terminal windows so you can see any messages when
it crashes.
