Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Urgent: SUMIF +

2010-08-24 Thread None
Thanks Paul.  Unfortunately the formula is too long for Excel.  That's the
error
I got.  But I certainly appreciate the effort because it does work when it's
shortened.  I've come up with another solution using a pivot table but it makes
the file larger and more cumbersome.  But, hey, it's a solution.  :)  Maybe
someone else will have an idea that's easier to use.

it might be a problem with the length of the function!
depending your your version of Excel, it MAY have a 256 character limit.
Each sumif statement is nearly than 50 characters,
so 21 of them would be 1050 characters!...

you may have a problem... it may mean you need to separate it into several
cells,
or use a VBA function to handle the calculations!

Well... I've got "A" solution:

=SUMIF(Payment!EA:EA,RIGHT($A2,6),Payment!$P:$P)
+SUMIF(Payment!EB:EB,RIGHT($A2,6),Payment!$U:$U)
+SUMIF(Payment!EC:EC,RIGHT($A2,6),Payment!$Z:$Z)
...

btw:  your sample result is incorrect.
rows 6 and 7 are 167891
instead of 567891,
yet you included them in your calculation.

this isn't the best way... I'd probably write it as VBA and loop through...

hope this helps,

Paul

I need a multiple SUMIF type formula.

In the attached book, there is a Log sheet that needs the formula in cells M2
and M3.  The formula in cell M2 needs to look in Payment in columns EA-EU for
the last 6 digits in cell M2 in the Log.  If it finds it, it needs to sum the
corresponding amounts in columns P, U, etc.

In the Log sheet in cells O2 and O3 I've given what amount the formula should
return.

I'm hoping someone can help with this.  Thanks so much.

No problem.
It's not an "elegant" solution, but it works.

VBA would be better (and more fun)

Paul:  Thank you!  Your "a" solution works and I'm sorry the sample was wrong.
I can't thank you enough for your assistance.

Well... I've got "A" solution:

=SUMIF(Payment!EA:EA,RIGHT($A2,6),Payment!$P:$P)
+SUMIF(Payment!EB:EB,RIGHT($A2,6),Payment!$U:$U)
+SUMIF(Payment!EC:EC,RIGHT($A2,6),Payment!$Z:$Z)
...

btw:  your sample result is incorrect.
rows 6 and 7 are 167891
instead of 567891,
yet you included them in your calculation.

this isn't the best way... I'd probably write it as VBA and loop through...

hope this helps,

Paul

I sent this yesterday and didn't hear back and have a deadline looming.  I'm
really hoping someone has a solution to this dilemma.  As this data changes
often, manually adding up the numbers just doesn't make sense but I may have to
break down and do that.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this with a
formula?  Thanks for any and all ideas.  Sorry for the rush on this.

In the Log sheet in cells O2 and O3 I've given what amount the formula should
return.

I'm hoping someone can help with this.  Thanks so much.

Need you brains guys!

Suppose I have a defined range on my worksheet, and within that range
I have numbers or blank cells. i'm trying to write some vba code that
given 2 cells as a start and stop point, finds all the blank cell
"paths" between those two numbers.

ie suppose 1 is at a1 and 5 is at c4 and the range is a1 to e6, i need
to produce a list of non blank cell paths between the 1 and 5. a path
being a way to traverse the cells between the two numbers by "walking"
on non-blank cells including cells that touch at corners.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi,

I have re-done your sheet using VBA.

It will accommodate as many rows as needed on the report sheet, and up to
10,000 rows on the DATA sheet (although this can easily be increased)

The button can be moved to any convenient spot on the worksheet. Just
right-click, then drag it.

Regards - Dave.

Hi Shariq
I've done this with worksheet functions, not VBA.
The original formula is in B3 on the Report sheet. It's then just copied down,
then copied across.
If you really need it in VBA, it can be done easily eno
