$$Excel-Macros$$ Calculation based on changing conditions
Hello, I am using Excel 2002 SP3 and hope to find a conditional solution using formulas rather than a macro. In column A are a series of values, column B has values at irregular intervals, and column C contains calculated values based on a value in column B until a new value in column B is encountered and then it incorporates the new column B value in its calculation. ABC 2 35 6 9 8 11 4 2 6 15 17 8 10 21829 For example, column C contains a formula to sum columns A and B. It adds 3 to whatever value is in column A until the fourth row at which point it adds 2 to whatever value is in the A column and finally as it gets to the seventh row begins adding 8 to A column values. Is there some formula that can be placed in column C that will follow this logic and avoid using a macro? Column A at this point has 86 rows and column B has 14 values at varying intervals. Thanks for your help and time. Steve -- -- Some important links for excel users: 1. Follow us on TWITTER for tips tricks and links : http://twitter.com/exceldailytip 2. $$Excel-Macros$$ Keeping Modules Separate
Hi, Advise needed on structuring a workbook and its modules. I have a workbook that has become rather large over the years. The total size of the workbook is about 6meg, of which 4.2 meg is the modules and 1.8meg is the worksheets. For email purposes I would like to keep the module separate from the workbook, i have very slow broadband and a 6meg email takes a while to send, and then a further while to receive at my computer at home, I also like the security of keeping them separate as one without the other is fairly meaningless! I am considering just using two separate workbooks, module in one and worksheets in the other. But before I start the mammoth task of implementing this, is there another way of keeping them separate? and could there be any major pitfalls in my plan still using excel97 -- -- Some important links for excel users: 1. It gives the data in vertical manner from the right side of the column against which data has to find. Syntax VLOOKUP(lookup_value,table_array,col_index_num,range_lookup) Lookup_value The value to search in the first column of the table array (array: Used to build single formulas that produce multiple results or that operate on a group of arguments that are arranged in rows and columns. An array range shares a common formula; an array constant is a group of constants used as an argument.). Lookup_value can be a value or a reference. Important: If lookup_value is smaller than the smallest value in the first column of table_array, VLOOKUP returns the #N/A error value. Table_array Two or more columns of data. Use a reference to a range or a range name. The values in the first column of table_array are the values searched by lookup_value. These values can be text, numbers, or logical values. Note: Uppercase and lowercase text are equivalent. Col_index_num The column number in table_array from which the matching value must be returned. A col_index_num of 1 returns the value in the first column in table_array; a col_index_num of 2 returns the value in the second column in table_array, and so on. If col_index_num is: Less than 1, VLOOKUP returns the #VALUE! error value. Greater than the number of columns in table_array, VLOOKUP returns the #REF! error value. Range_lookup A logical value that specifies whether you want VLOOKUP to find an exact match or an approximate match: If TRUE or omitted, an exact or approximate match is returned. If an exact match is not found, the next largest value that is less than lookup_value is returned. The values in the first column of table_array must be placed in ascending sort order; otherwise, VLOOKUP may not give the correct value. You can put the values in ascending order by choosing the Sort command from the Data menu and selecting Ascending. For more information, see Default sort orders. If FALSE, VLOOKUP will only find an exact match. In this case, the values in the first column of table_array do not need to be sorted. If there are two or more values in the first column of table_array that match the lookup_value, the first value found is used. If an exact match is not found, the error value #N/A is returned. -- -- Some important links for excel users: 1. Follow us on TWITTER for tips tricks and links : http://twitter.com/exceldailytip 2. Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Calculation based on changing conditions
Hi Steve, An alternative for your query without using an Logical formula is attached. Procedure is as under: 1. Select Column B and do Go To Special option (i.e., Keyboard shortcut F5 or Ctrl+G and select Special Tab) 2. Choose the option Blanks 3. Now type=B1 in cell B2 and press Ctrl+Enter... Alas, all the gaps will be filled with the required value . Thanks Vinod On Sat, Aug 28, 2010 at 1:13 PM, xsrossiter steverossi...@sbcglobal.netwrote: Hello, I am using Excel 2002 SP3 and hope to find a conditional solution using formulas rather than a macro. $$Excel-Macros$$ Subtotal needs tweeking
Is there a quick way to turn subtotaled data into permanent values, without keeping the supporting numbers in the spreadsheet? I'm subtotaling an inventory of products, and once I get the totaled values and collapse the tree down to '2', I need to transfer the end result to another worksheet or destination. I can remove the word 'total' with the search and replace operation; but can't go any further. I've tried the usual tricks (copy/paste special Values) but cannot get satisfactory results. What am I missing? Thanks for looking. Hane -- -- Some important links for excel users: 1. Follow us on TWITTER for tips tricks and links : http://twitter.com/exceldailytip 2. RE: $$Excel-Macros$$ Help in Separate the Num Alpha in a cell into another two cells
Hi, You have custom formatting in the both of your main data columns, which means that only the numeric value is entered. (Select one of the cells and see what appears in the formula bar). The units are done with the formatting. So you only need a simple =A2 sort of formula in a cell with general formatting to return the value. Returning the unit can't be done with worksheet formulas, I don't think. You'll need VBA to copy the formatting of each cell to the new column, which will display the unit. Regards - Dave.
