In Excel 2010 I was trying to use the GetSaveAsFilename to obtain path and
file name, but not save the file. My problem is that it does not work in a
folder with restricted access. In my example the user only has permission
to read and add and the GetSaveAsFilename appears to create a temporary
 file in the process.

So my question is, how can get the user to browse and select the
destination folder and assign the path to a variable without saving
anything (at this point)? Maybe also include the file name, but this I can
always get using an Input command.

 Really, all input is appreciated!

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ How to assign userselected path to variable

2014-10-22 Thread Dr. Schwartz
Hi Paul, please excuse my poor description. Let me try and elaborate.

The folder in question is set up so the user can have either write (create
and modify files) or or add (only create files) permission. My users only
have the add permission. For the same reason the application is actually
creating and writing data to the file temporarily on the c-drive and moves
it to the restricted folder in the end. It is the last move that requires
that the user input path and file name.

I still wonder why GetSaveAsFilename creates a temporary file???

- Doc

Den tirsdag den 21. oktober 2014 14.26.32 UTC+2 skrev Paul Schreiner:

 Just out of curiosity...

If the user doesn't have write permission to the folder,
why would you want to get a SaveAs filename?
Wouldn't they have a problem later when they need to save?

Or are you really only trying to pick a file name from the folder
and have no intention of saving?

which you can do with Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker)

$$Excel-Macros$$ Application.UseSystemSeparators

2014-10-14 Thread Dr. Schwartz
I have a workbook that is opened by many users in different environments.
My goal is to determine the value of *Application.UseSystemSeparators*
(True/False) using the Workbook_open() and somehow save the value so that I
can set it back using Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean). The order is:

1. Sub Workbook_open(): Determine value and store
2. Sub myCustomSub: The user manually starts a macro that possibly changes
the value temporarily while processing data
3. Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean): Restores to value
determined when the workbook was opened

Notice:
I have tried to use a constant but no luck.
I don't want the value stored anywhere within a worksheet.

Can anyone assist me please?

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Custom buttons

The last step is what I have a question with. I want to use an image I
designed, not ones that are in the window. Is there a way to use my own
image on a button?

  Hi,

Please check if it will help.

Office Button= Excel Options = Customize
 1. Select 'Macros' from 'Choose commands from' to get your macros listed.
 2. Select the macro you need to assing.
 3. Click 'Add' button to get it added to quick access toolbar list.
 3. Select the macro from quick access toolbar list and click modify to
 change the name and appearances.
