Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ 9e+307

2013-07-25 Thread respuzy
Its the biggest number excel knows. Assuming you have a list of numbers in
column A and you always want excel to deliver the last number in the row to you
anytime you update the row. You can use lookup(9e+307,a:a). Your way of telling
excel look for the last number in column A or any range where your data Ȋ̝̊̅§.
If your data Ȋ̝̊̅§ text then we have to modify this bcause it only deals with
numbers.

Hi Hilary,

As u r insered too-much formula it will hang the pc, because if u change
any cells value of simply edit that cell the processor calculate all the
fomula cell and hangsup.
simple way is to copy the formula values and paste it as simple values. but
from this it will not change the calculations as u change the value of non
formula cell.

Hi Lalit

If I don't want only the name of the user to appear once the file opens can you
make an adjustment? Ie when the file Ȋ̝̊̅§ opened the user name and time
appears on the file name. The time Ȋ̝̊̅§ cool but then every person can see the
user name and could log in with that user name so I wish only the name shd not

Hi Hilary,

Your first query solution is:

Ws1.range(a1:ak132).copy
Ws2.range(a1:ak132).pastespecial xlall
application.cutcopymode=false

for Query 2: do you want set ws2 name should be strName ?

Fw: $$Excel-Macros$$ Dynamic Fixed Asset Depreciation Schedule *

2012-12-01 Thread respuzy
Hello Gurus

i am trying to develop a very dynamic Fixed Asset depreciation schedule but
facing a slight formula or logic challenge and as usual seeking your expert
advice. Basically what this current schedule does is assuming you want to
depreciate your asset for say 5 years, starting from 2013 you will see
information for only the five years ending 2017 so at the end of the 5th
year, the asset would have been fully depreciated, assuming however in 2014
you acquired another asset and you expert to depreciate it for 5 years
also, it means by the end of 2018 you should have depreciated the 2nd
acquisition fully,

 The Scenario

in cell B9, i have entered the no of years for depreciation for the first
asset purchased in 2013 and am using the
formula IF($B$9=COLUMN(A1),,B11+1) in cell c11 to be able to cut off
years after 2017 ( ie 5 years),

The Problem

however if i enter the new purchase of asset in cell B27, then i would have
to enter the no of yrs for deprn for this asset in cell c9, then i expert
this formula to be modified IF($B$9=COLUMN(A1),,B11+1) so that the cut
off year will be in 2018, it has to be dynamic such that if i enter say a
new purchase in csll D27 and i enter say a the no of yr for deprn for this
asset in cell E9 the cut off year would be 2020

Why use a complicated formula that can inadvertently be deleted when the macro

2012-08-25 Thread respuzy
Hi Amar

I built the dashboard in 2007 and 2010 environment. Am not sure why you can't
view in 2003. Maybe Most of the functions I used are not in 2003 so Ʊ may
probably get an error.
Ʊ can upgrade your 2003 to 2007 or 10. 2010 also has 2003 environment so if Ʊ
prefer that you can stick to that envt and work. With 2007 you can apply an
addin function to get 2003 envt.
Thanks

Thank you Hilary for sharing those templates with us , but would be very
useful ,not just looking how it looks but to be customizable as well.

What is the point sharing with us protected files , not that i cannot find
a password breaker but like i sayd would be more useful if protection is
off on sheet / VBE

Hi Hilary,

Mind sharing your solution with the group?

What came to mind for me was an array solution that uses small/row to
identify the second smallest row number for the matching name, and index to
retrieve the reference to the cell.

Here's a formula using that approach:

{

=INDEX(NamesRange,SMALL(IF(NamesRange=NameToFind,ROW(NamesRange)),OccurenceN
umber)-ROW(INDEX(NamesRange,1))+1)

}

If you were going to use many of these formulas, NamesRange was large, and
often there was not going to be a match (for example there was only one
occurrence and you were looking for the second), you could speed up the
formulas by use the following version that checks the count (using countif)
of matching names, and if the count is OccurenceNumber (2 in your stated
question) it will skip the array formula and just return an error. If there
will usually be a match, this would actually be slower since it has the
added countif.

{

=IF(COUNTIF(NamesRange,NameToFind)OccurenceNumber,#NUM!,INDEX(NamesRange,SM
ALL(IF(NamesRange=NameToFind,ROW(NamesRange)),OccurenceNumber)-ROW(INDEX(Nam
esRange,1))+1))

}

Upon a little more thought, here is a non-array solution for finding exactly
the 2nd occurrence (the array version would work for finding any specific
occurrence). It uses match to find the first occurrence, then another match
to find the next occurrence. It should be faster---it has less work to do.
If there is no match it either returns an NA error or if the only match was
on the very last row of the range, a REF error.

=INDEX(NamesRange,MATCH(NameToFind,NamesRange,0)+MATCH(NameToFind,INDEX(Name
sRange,MATCH(NameToFind,NamesRange,0)+1):INDEX(NamesRange,ROWS(NamesRange)),
0))

Hi Hilary,

INDEX(NamesRange,1) returns the first row of the range (which is a single
cell since the range is only one column wide).

Put that inside a ROW() function and you get the first row number.

Equally effective would be specifying the first cell in NamesRange instead:

ROW(FirstCellInNamesRange)

For example, if NamesRange is $A$2:$A$13:

INDEX(NamesRange,1) is $A$2

ROW(Index(NamesRange,1)) is ROW($A$2) which is 2.

You might be confused if you think INDEX returns the value of a cell. If
INDEX(NamesRange,1) refers to $A$2 and cell A2 contains Hilary, then you
might expect ROW(INDEX(NamesRange,1)) to be equivalent to ROW(Hilary).
which clearly would not work.

The reason ROW(INDEX(NamesRange,1)) is equivalent to ROW($A$2) instead is
because INDEX is one of the three main functions that can return cell
references, and can be used in place of cell references anywhere cell
references are expected (the other two are OFFSET and INDIRECT). In a
formula result, a cell reference is displayed on the worksheet by the value
of the referenced cells, so the end result is sometimes the same.

The reason I used Row(Index(NamesRange,1)) in the formula instead of
Row($A$2) or Row(FirstCellInNamesRange) was primarily that it would allow
you to use defined names for your ranges without any changes to the formula,
or a redundant defined name to refer to the first cell/first row in
NamesRange.

No, I'm not a lectururer. I like teaching (informally), and I like words,
though. I take it as a complement that you might think so, thanks :). I'm
impressed with your dashboards and workbooks that I've seen so far. I only
wish I was involved in finance -- I'd ask to use them myself.

Two of my previously suggested formulas, with range references substituted
for range names:

1. Standard formula (faster than the array formula, also it will work
with wildcards):
=INDEX($B$2:$B$13,MATCH($A$17,$A$2:$A$13,0)+MATCH($A$17,INDEX($A$2:$A$13,MAT
CH($A$17,$A$2:$A$13,0)+1):INDEX($A$2:$A$13,ROWS($A$2:$A$13)),0))

2. Array formula:
=INDEX($B$2:$B$13,SMALL(IF($A$2:$A$13=$A$17,ROW($A$2:$A$13)),2)-ROW($A$2)+1)

Hi Hilary,

You could use a character with a check box, and a Worksheet.Click event to
place and remove the checks.

You can use the Windows Character Map utility (charmap.exe) to browse your
fonts.

Unicode includes a Ballot Box character (☐), Ballot Box with Check (☑) and
Ballot Box with X (☒). If you browse the Symbols and Dingbats Unicode
subrange you can find these and similar symbols.

You can also do the same with a symbol font, even non-Unicode, such as
Wingdings.

Hello Gurus,

i am trying to create a call report in the format attached. i however need to
replicate the format like 2000 times, i can simply drag down the format to the
number of rows i want however, i need to link these check boxes to the and i
dont think doing it one by one is very helpful, is there a simple way to
achieve this. thanks

January 1900.

And the month of 5th January 1900 is Jan of course.

hilary,

Instead of TEXT(MONTH(TODAY()),mmm), I think you were aiming for
TEXT(TODAY(),mmm). You could also use =TODAY() with a cell format of mmm to
have it displayed as Jan/Feb/etc. but still hold a dateserial as the underlying
value of the cell.

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Re: Creation of dashboard

2012-04-17 Thread respuzy
Hi Deba

Asa is spot on with Chandoos site. Gives very basic info wrt Dashboard. What I
would like to also say is that with Dashboard creation, you have a lot of
lookup situations. Index and Match function is you best Friend for this,Choose
function will be your sister.Rows and Columns will be your brothers. Just
study how the various lookup functions combine and work together. Study how to
use data validation or combo box for the basics. Graphs shd be your roommate.
No software needed. Thanks

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Re: Creation of dashboard

2012-04-17 Thread respuzy
Hi Deba

Am currently on .BB () only so you have to go thru this process yourself.

If you want the % of total billing against bal of billing to achieve then
1. In the Dashboard sheet divide cell F8 by cell G8. Give it a label and then
next to it type a 100% and label that also
2. Copy the graph for the % of target achieved and paste it anywhere.
3. Select the copied graph and right click and choose select data
,It will take you to the previous data of the % of target achieved. You have to
reselect the data by choosing the new figures you computed. If the graph shows
you too bars, right click on the bars and choose format data series
And in the seris option make the overlap a 100%. Choose No fill for the 100%.

Hope this helps.

Hi Hilary,

You seem to already have the answer :)

If you assign the following macro to your listbox, the text in the callout
will be updated correctly:

Sub ListBox1_Change()

Dim wb As Workbook

Set wb = ThisWorkbook

With wb.Worksheets(Ratio)

.Shapes(Rectangular Callout 1).TextFrame.Characters.Text = _

wb.Worksheets(interpretation).Cells(.Cells(1, 1).Value, 1).Value

End With

Set wb = Nothing

End Sub

Best to remove the cell link fro mthe shape, and there is now no need for
the formula at interpretation!A14.

 Hi

 In B3 on Sheet1

 =IFERROR(MATCH('PL

 Define B3 '*MatchCol'*

Now in B12 and copy down across,

The text can be formatted by having the space *within* the format

=CHOOSE(A1,C2,C3,C4,C5)TEXT(C10/I1, 0,0.00)

or using Don's suggestion

=INDEX(C2:C5,MATCH(D12,D2:D5))TEXT(C13/INDEX(E2:E5,MATCH(D12,D2:D5)),
0,0.00)
