RE: Poublic Folder structure export

You could still see if it you opened it in outlook. Or he could do a
printscreen and photochop it together, and print it out.

I need to find a way to export or PF structure into a format we can look
at, whether it be a .csv or anything really. Management wants to see
what it looks like today before I reorganize it.

Anyone have any ideas or know of anything that can do this? Scripting
using CDO or whatever is fine also.

You don't see reason why not for. which one.

"do not mount store" or delete.

Another question for Chris or anyone else that can help. Default
mailbox stores when running Enterprise edition E2K - can they be removed
or atleast flagged for the "do not mount" feature as long as the SA's
mailbox is on another store?

RE: Time Sync

2002-08-18 Thread Crump, Jay

Ed has spoken.

I love the catch phrase after your signature.

Valid question - different topic. Exchange 2K native organization, 3 AG's (the old
Site structure left over from 5.5), two of these AG's represent all the NAmerica
servers I have in production. They will have to stay separate AG's in the future as
well. One has its own admin team and is on a military installation.

My problem is on one particular network segment - has its own DC/GC and Exchange box.
When admins on this segment fire up ESM and view Public Folders, they always connect
to the Exchange that's present in the OTHER AG. No problem to use the 'Connect To'
feature, but why is this happening? I've checked the SiteFolderServer attribute on
the DC's in both locations. They both point to the correct machine. What else should
I look for here?

Thanks In Advance

Since windows time service is a SNTP client, and not a good on at that,
It does not look at the "leap indicator" to check to see if the time
server that is giving it time has been synced. windows time service also
doesn't take inyo account the time it takes for the NTP packet to make
the round trip. Also NTP4 uses SSL ant NTP v3 uses MD5.

RE: Schedule + service cannot start.

2002-08-18 Thread Ed Crowley

You don't need this service unless you have Microsoft Mail somewhere and
you use the Microsoft Mail Connector. If you don't you can run Exchange
Setup on all servers and remove this component. That's the best way to
take care of this problem.

Subject: Schedule + service cannot start.

First of all, thank you to all that offered me advise on my mail
migration. I am nearly done. But I am getting an error on my exchange
5.5 server. Event ID 7023. The MS Schedule Free/Busy connector service
terminated with the following error: The service did not start due to a
logon failure. Now I just finished moving everything from an old server
to this new one. It is running fine otherwise. I checked to make sure
that the service was using the same account that the old server was
using and it is. And I have the password correct. I also tried the local
system account and that did not work either. I look in exchange manager
and under the new server the connector is not listed under recipients.
When I went to the public info store properties for the new server and
went to instances to add it, it was already listed. How can I get this
to start properly?

RE: Exchange 2000 Ent require Win2K Server Advanced?

2002-08-18 Thread Tom Meunier

Again, that q-article (to further beat it to death) applies to ADVANCED
SERVER and DATACENTER SERVER. Nobody has shown me anything to say that
E2k Standard or Enterprise isn't quite happy running on Win2k server
with 4gb of RAM and WITHOUT the /3gb switch.

One of these days (in early October) I'll ask for a less wishy-washy
answer, with illustrations for dimwits like me. Until then, I'll watch
this thing get (in my opinion only) misquoted and misunderstood more
often than [religious figure of your choice].

Win2k Server is fine. As long as you're happy with 4 or less CPUs and 4
or less GB of system RAM. The only reason to go to Advanced is to
increase to 8cpus, 8GB RAM, clustering.

Under what circumstances would a logon occur on the Exchange service
account? I was looking through my event log and found that the service
account logs on occasionally. Often it is between 2:00 AM and 3:30 AM
but it doesn't occur every day and it doesn't appear to be closely
associated with any particular event such as a system backup or reboot.
I'm wondering if I have a hacker might be logging on using the service
account? I changed the service account password yesterday and still got
a logon last night at 3:11 AM. There were no failed logons. Thanks for
your comments.

RE: Must Decide; EX5.5 or EX2K

You need 2k server for Exchange 2k, that is, if you plan to upgrade.

What about the aditional overhead (cost) of Windows 2000 server as he will need an AD.
I would say rather stick with NT4.0 and Exchange 5.5

Since you won't have to worry about the Exchange 5.5/2K coexistence phase, then by all
means implement Exchange 2K. It's a much better product. It's more scaleable, more
logical, has much better web interface, etc. Yes, there is a learning curve to learn
the new administrative interfaces, but without an installed base of Exchange 5.5, the
implementation of Exchange 2K is very straightforward.

Subject: Must Decide; EX5.5 or EX2K

I've recently come into the need to implement Exchange server for my new
employer. I have been blissfully ignorant of all things related to
Exchange for nearly a year and a half now, but alas that is at an end.
I've had substantial experience with Exchange with my previous employer,
but when I was hired on here they already had some other e-mail product
and were not interested in switching to Exchange. Now they are and I am
needing to catch up. My experience with Exchange goes back to the RC
for Exchange 4.0 and runs up to EX55 SP3. EX2K was only just starting
to be implemented widely by the more adventurous members of this list at
the time I changed jobs.

With that lengthy pre-amble, here's my question: I have seen
some of the recent posts with scary stories about what to expect when
upgrading EX55 to EX2K and read some other things about AD
implementations gone awry.
These cause me to wonder if it is worth it to install EX2K? We already
own EX55 and our Windows networking is run strictly on a "domains"
model, (no AD anywhere and none planned in the near future.) Our
implementation will be rather small, one site, one server, about 50
users, and a handful of remote users. What if any advantages would
there be to me to implement EX2K over EX55?

Thanx,
Eric Fors, II

BTW - I'm glad to see that the Ed's and Missy K. are still on the list.
Your posts in the archives have pulled my proverbial bacon out of the
fire more than a few times.

RE: Exchange 2k SMTP

2002-08-18 Thread Baker, Jennifer

Try setting the dns address of the adapter to point at itself or whatever
local dns servers you use for your internal network's dns, then enable dns
forwarding on the exchange server: In the dnsmgmt.msc, go to the properties
of the exchange server. Under the forwarders tab, enable forwarding and
then add the two worldnet dns servers in the list.

Make sure your smtp connector is set to use dns to route messages.

Search technet for "open relay exchange 2000", follow the directions and
make sure you aren't an open relay when you get it working. My guess is
that your server will be an open relay after reading some of the previous
posts.

It's unable to send. The Outlook client places the message in its Outbox,
and it dissappears quickly. It then shows at the Exchange server, in the
virtual smtp server queue. After a certain time period (relatively close to
the timeout and retries specified), I get an unable to deliver message

Well, normally there's nothing you have to do to an E2K server to allow
users to /send/ internet e-mail, it does that out of the box. What error
