RE: Exchange Mailbox Setup

2004-01-02 Thread Jones, Becky
Yes, i mean to create one for a new user. Where would i assign the Exchange View Only
Admin role?
On the user or put the user in a group and assign it to that group?
With just basic rights, the user can launch the MMC and add a new user. But if i
tried logging on to a machine that has the added exchange features as that user, the
MMC wont even launch. It says I dont have enough rights.
So would I create a new group and give that group some kind of permissions to exchange
and then add my user to that group?

(sorry if the question sounds dumb!)
bec.

user? I dont want that person to have full admin rights, and right now she
does. She is not able to create the mailbox with Domain User rights.
Any help is appreciated,

Queues - Outbound mail Not Going

2004-01-02 Thread Paul M. Done
I am tying to help a fellow Exchange Admin (blind leading the blind).
Running a Ex 5.5 Sp4 on Nt4 box with DNS routing, outbound mail is not
going out. Inbound mail is received via .forward from a campus server. DNS
entries correctly point to and from box, IMS is installed and configured
exactly as before.

Any ideas why outbound mail will not go. Tried going to the Queues in the
IMS properties. Where I am use to seeing a pulldown box, his is gray with
no option to pull down.

The question you ask is a very basic one for Exchange, which tells me that
you need a class or self-study. You right-click the administrative group,
then select the delegation option.

replay log files for one user?

2004-01-02 Thread Mark Nold

OL 2002 SP1

My CEO came into us today and informed us that all of his email is
gone. According to him it was there at 10:05 and gone at 10:10. Of
course he claims that he did not move or delete it, which I have
confirmed. Nothing in the DIR, nothing in trash, or other folders. No
one else has access to his mailbox.

One of our guys is busy trying to figure out what happened. My task has
become to get it back.

I've done DR, but only for a full system. Never a single user. I was
wondering if there is a way to replay the log files for single user or
do I have to put all on my DR box and then drop to a pst from there to
import back into his account?

Your help is appreciated.

Where did you check DIR? Just on the Deleted Items Folder? My best
guess is that he (or someone else) configured a POP3 account and pulled
it all out. IF that is the case, then it does not get moved to the
Deleted Items folder. Install the Reg entry (search Google for
dumpsteralwayson) and then try and do Recover Deleted Items from his
Inbox and other folders.

RE: replay log files for one user?

2004-01-02 Thread Ed Crowley [MVP]
This usually happens because of one of the following:

- Outlook is configured to deliver to a PST
- User logs into mailbox using POP
- One of the above from a home computer with an incorrectly configured
profile
- User has misconfigured his PDA synchronization software

Recheck Deleted Item Recovery with an Outlook client that has the
DumpsterAlwaysOn registry value set. Select the Inbox folder, then select
Tools Deleted Item Recovery. Does everything show up now? Then it's very
likely one of the causes I listed or something very similar.

Read RFCs 821 and 822 and you can see how the address to where the mail is
sent (the envelope address) via SMTP doesn't have to match what is shown
