5.5 to E2K mailbox migration

2003-09-17 Thread Ashraph, Elizabeth A.
Hi All,
I'm getting about a 10% failure rate on our intrasite mailbox migrations from 5.5 to
E2K. The errors indicate some kind of corruption in the mailbox per Q264119, although
not apparent to the user. Has anyone found a quick fix or workaround for this
particular error. Thanks.

Locally Scoped Connectors Not Allowed in a Mixed Exchange Server 5.5-Exchange 2000 Environment

2003-06-09 Thread Ashraph, Elizabeth A.
Hi All,
What would be the impact of changing my current site address space from site to org as
we move to a mixed mode 5.5/E2K environment, which appears to be mandatory. I recall
there being a problem in the past when 1 of our sites mistakenly scoped their address
space to org, but cannot recall the problems it caused specifically. Thanks.

Current environment:
3 Sites
Outbound-All forwarding to the same smarthost on outbound
Inbound-One internal MX record, LDAP lookup and routed to user's correct site

PST database?

2003-03-17 Thread Ashraph, Elizabeth A.
Hi,
Does anyone know of a database-based application that is capable of importing PST
files into a single searchable database, (Other than Exchange or Lotus Notes),
preserving all dates and attachments. We have a need to restore and search a lot of
historical email data already in PST format on an ongoing basis, and looking for an
inhouse solution. Thanks.

RE: Trans logs

2003-02-07 Thread Ashraph, Elizabeth A.
All the backups being performed are full, and yet the logs are not getting deleted.
Where would you start in troubleshooting that problem, the backup system or Exchange?
Thanks.

There is no such option in backup packages, including NTBACKUP, I've worked with. If
you perform a full (normal) or incremental backup, the backup program purges the logs.
If you perform a differential or copy backup, the logs are not purged.

Your Exchange aware backup product does that. Or you do if you manually do so after a
successful off-line backup.

If the logs were not purged, then the option to do so wasn't set.

Please forgive me in advance for asking this, but in Ex5.5 who deletes the transaction
logs after a full backup, does Exchange or the Exchange aware Backup software (like
Veritas). Has anyone seen cases where backups are successful but the logs don't get
purged, what might cause this. Thanks.

Site Design

2002-11-14 Thread Ashraph, Elizabeth A.
OK, this may be a wacky question but have to ask it.

1)In an Exchange 5.5 environment, is there anyway to route server to server traffic
through a 3rd party gateway, ie IS-MTA-Sendmail. This being a strategy to contain
viruses on each server by filtering through Sendmail-Milter.

2)What's the usual recommendation on when/where to set site boundaries. Let's say you
have a remote location connected by a T1, about 1000 users in that location all in the
same NT domain as the other location. Would you not want to simplify routing and put
them in the same Exchange site. Or is it generally recommended you put a site
connector between remote geographic sites, even if there is sufficient bandwidth
between them to support RPC.

Last one, would you not have more flexibility in a E2K site design if you all start
off in a single site, or is it just as easy to deal with multiple sites.

Thanks.

I can actually emulate each client's problem by recreating an Outlook profile on my
own machine to their mailbox. And the first thing OLXP does is poll one of the
Exchange mailbox servers from the no-longer-existent site.

Nope - every time I've seen this (and I have seen it more than once) it was because of
a corrupt user profile. That's why this one is stumping me.

Yes, all pointing to the correct server.

Could it be caused by an old recurring meeting invite perhaps originally sent from a

Thanks for those that read this even though its OT. It's a quickie...
I need to block access to the internet from my pc, but be
 able to use it
when *I* want to. ( Parent kid issue).
Zone alarm would be perfect, but if I use it to do not
 allow IE to access
the internet, all that needs to be done is open ZA, and
 click allow it.
If ZA could be password protected it would be perfect. Anyone
 have a link or
suggestion? Does Programs like Net nanny do this or just
 limit WHERE they
 can go?
 Thanks!
