Re: Need Help Restoring a Deleted pub.edb in 5.5
FOLDERS RESTORED! Thanks again for your help! Boy, do I feel stupid! Please don't pile on -- I'm suffering enough SHAME and GUILT already... Here's my sad story: On the Friday after Thanksgiving (office closed, I thought I would show a little initiative and finally do that ESEUTIL work I had been putting off for 18 months. I had shut down Exchange and copied my on my 8gb priv.edb and 11mb pub.edb to a backup hard drive. Because the ESEUTIL process aborted halfway through the process on priv.edb, I decided to instead just put things back the way they were and go home to discuss the day's tragic events with my good friend JACK DANIELS. :) (Maybe I will revisit ESEUTIL over the Christmas holidays, but that's another story.) Anyway, when I came back to work on Monday, I started getting reports that the Public Folders were gone. For reasons still unknown to me, I must have either MOVED or DELETED pub.edb from its original location. Exchange had evidently rebuilt a pub.edb file, but it was just 2 mb with no visbile data and only a couple of default folders. (The original entries for the Public Folders were still showing up in Exchange Administrator for what it's worth.) I found the copy of 11 mb pub.edb that I had made on Friday. What is the best/easiest procedure for a moron like myself to get the file back into Exchange? _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchangetext_mode=lang=english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Delete the log files. Replace the pub.edb file with the old one. Ed, are you saying it is NOT NECESSARY to run isinteg -patch in this scenario? __ Do you Yahoo!? No, that might be necessary. You'll get an event log entry if it is necessary. It isn't necessary for Exchange 2000 and 2003. RE: Need Help Restoring a Deleted pub.edb in 5.5
Have people stored any new info in the public folders since then? No. This is not a concern. If you slide the old pub.edb in there, the new work will be gone. You probably will be better off restoring that old pub.edb to another server (in a separate Exchange organization) and then exporting/importing data from that other server to the production server. Only 1 Exchange Server in this organization. If it is as easy as just sliding the file back to MDBDATA, that would be excellent. What other steps are necessary to do this? _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchangetext_mode=lang=english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

By another server I meant - build a new Exchange server in a separate Exchange org. -Original Message- From: Willem Jackson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, December 05, 2003 11:18 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Need Help Restoring a Deleted pub.edb in 5.5 Have people stored any new info in the public folders since then? RE: Need Help Restoring a Deleted pub.edb in 5.5
Take a full online backup. Shut down the Information Store cleanly. Take a full offline backup (so you have a backup copy in case you do something stupid again--Sorry, I couldn't resist) of the full Information Store, both private and public stores. Take another if you want to be really sure. Delete the log files. Replace the pub.edb file with the old one. That ought to work. RE: Need Help Restoring a Deleted pub.edb in 5.5
My question is why on earth would you bother doing an offline defrag on an 11 MB pub.edb? RE: Need Help Restoring a Deleted pub.edb in 5.5
I never said I was doing an offline defrag of the pub.edb. I was doing an offline defrag of the 8.65 GB priv store. For reasons still not clear to me (but certainly by human error), the pub.edb file was inadvertently deleted. _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchangetext_mode=lang=english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
