You can also simply copy the Information Store to another machine, run
the offline defrag there, then copy then Information Store back.

I was recently given the responsibility for an Exchange 2000
Server. This server has lots of problems:

1- The database disk is full, it has only 16MB free. The
 database has 5GB.

2- The online defragmentation tells me that the database has
1,9GB free, but I don't have enough free space to do an
 offline defrag.

3- When I run System Manager I only see Recipients and
Tools. There's no sign of Global Settings and
 Administrative Groups

4- When I select Recipients I get the messages
An invalid ADSI pathname was passed
 An operations error occurred

I would like to hear your suggestions to solve all this problems.

 Thanks in advance.

Add new Disk. Then move data. Change your view to see Admin. Groups. Better
buy a book on Exchange at least too. Plenty of good ones out there that
address these basic questions.

RE: Exchange HELL

2002-09-26 Thread Amato, Jon (ISS Atlanta)

First, install a single, temporary disk (10GB) in the server, for just
long enough to move the databases to it, take the stores offline, and
run an offline defrag. Then, move back to your production volume, and
remove the temporary disk from the server. Then, explain to your
manager that either they buy more storage, or you're going to have to
implement STRICT quotas to keep from running out of space all over
again.

Or, like everyone else said - if the server's only got 5GB of disk
space, you might want to think about finagling another server.

1. 2. Get a bigger disk and move the database files. Make sure you do it
with the Exchange System Manager (ESM)

3. I believe you don't have the required permissions set for your Exchange
