I found a solution to the issue(On the MS support site no less)and wanted to share it with you just in case you run into this. Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - Q277717 describes how to change the display names of Active Directory users with Active Directory Services Interface Script. It provides the script as well. Not weird at all. It's logical.
