RE: Profile Maker

Actually what I am looking is the sample.prf that is available on the
ORK for XP. I looked and couldn't find any references. Found some
samples by others but not the full one that is from MS. Any body know of
where I can get it or reference a url?

Re: Profile Maker How to?

2002-05-21 Thread David Gibbons

 Hey all

I'm maving quite a few problems with my exchange server move (yes I tested
it and none of this stuff happened in test so I'm stuck with it). I'm
moving from one server to another and into another container. I was using
a 3rd party tool that failed me completly in the live enviroment
(BindView). So here I am, I need to update all the profiles in my company
with a login scrip and wish to use Modprof from Microsoft. I need it to
append the new server name to the exchange profile, problem... I can't
figure out how to use the darn thing. Does anyone have a sample *.prf
that is not the Outlook.prf that you can download from Microsoft? It has
everything in it and I just need the exchange server and can't fiugure out
how to pull all the unneeded text from it so I can test it.

 Thanks
David (Really tired with a caffee IV) Gibbons.

Sorry,

quick

a
few security problems.

See...now this was one of my gripes with having to use this product.

If a user can walk up to any computer in the company, logon, then
double-click the link on the desktop to the OWA, why go thru the hassle of
setting up a third-party product to create profiles on the fly?

RE: Profile Maker???

2002-01-25 Thread Blunt, James H (Jim)

True.

But several things come into play with my complaint:
1. We don't use user share areas or roaming profiles.
2. We do use .pst files (I know, I know...PST=BAD, but for regulatory
purposes, we have to keep certain e-mails for a period of 75 years.). These
PST files are all over the network on group shares, instead of in one
central repository.
3. From what I gathered from a quick read of Profile Maker, it doesn't
cover anything about adding a PST file location to the profile does it?

I KNOW I'm being an idiot here, but what other functionality do you lose,
using OWA vs. Outlook?

RE: Profile Maker???

2002-01-25 Thread Blunt, James H (Jim)

Nah...it's for environmental regulatory stuff. That way if something leaks
or they find contamination at a later date, they can go back and find out
what it is, where it came from, etc. :0P

We have to keep certain e-mails for a period of 75 yearsyes, I guess so
you can jail all your long deceased 100+ year old staff when the
FBI/IRS/CIA/whoever audits your archive :-)

3. From what I gathered from a quick read of Profile
Maker, it doesn't cover anything about adding a PST file location to the
profile does it?

I KNOW I'm being an idiot here, but what other functionality do you lose,
using OWA vs. Outlook?

See...now this was one of my gripes with having to use this product.

If a user can walk up to any computer in the company, logon, then
double-click the link on the desktop to the OWA, why go thru the
hassle of setting up a third-party product to create profiles on the
 fly?

 My $.02.

We use it in our lab environment. We are using an
older version, but it has worked well for us. Also use it where there
are many users of a single computer. Creates profiles on the fly and
has been very useful for us.

 Guys and Gals,

Has anyone ever used a product called Profile Maker 6.1.8? Our Help
Desk wants to save 15 minutes here and there and use this product.
From a quick review, it looks like a total time wasting snafu and
could possibly pose a few security problems.

TIA for your responses,
