[FairfieldLife] Re: Haralick on the Bible Code!

2015-08-28 Thread he...@hotmail.com [FairfieldLife]
A sample from the story of Kullervo (also Kullerwoinen):

 Then the shepherd, Kullerwoinen,
Drew his knife to cut his oat-loaf,
Cut the hard and arid biscuit;
Cuts against a stone imprisoned,
Well imbedded in the centre,
Breaks his ancient knife in pieces;
When the shepherd youth, Kullervo,
Saw his magic knife had broken,
Weeping sore, he spake as follows:
This, the blade that I bold sacred,
This the one thing that I honor,
Relic of my mother's people!
On the stone within this oat-loaf,
On this cheat-cake of the hostess,
I my precious knife have broken.
How shall I repay this insult,
How avenge this woman's malice,
What the wages for deception?
From a tree the raven answered:
O thou little silver buckle,
Only son of old Kalervo,
Why art thou in evil humor,
Wherefore sad in thy demeanor?
Take a young shoot from the thicket,
Take a birch-rod from the valley,
Drive thy herd across the lowlands,
Through the quicksands of the marshes;
To the wolves let one half wander,
To the bear-dens, lead the other;
Sing the forest wolves together,
Sing the bears down from the mountains,
Call the wolves thy little children,
And the bears thy standard-bearers;
Drive them like a cow-herd homeward,
Drive them home like spotted cattle,
Drive them to thy master's milk-yards;
Thus thou wilt repay the hostess
For her malice and derision.

The same in the original (old-fashioned) Finnish:

 Veti veitsensä tupesta
 leivän leikkaellaksensa:
 veitsi vierähti kivehen,
 kasahutti kalliohon;
 terä vieri veitsosesta,
 katkesi kurauksuesta.

 Kullervo, Kalervon poika,
 katselevi veitsyttänsä,
 itse päätyi itkemähän.
 90Sanan virkkoi, noin nimesi:
 Yks' oli veitsi veikkoutta,
 yksi rauta rakkautta,
 isän saamoa eloa,
 vanhemman varustamata;
 senki katkaisin kivehen,
 karahutin kalliohon,
 leipähän pahan emännän,
 pahan vaimon paistamahan!

 Millä nyt maksan naisen naurun,
 100naisen naurun, piian pilkan,
 akan ilkeän evähät,
 pahan porton paistannaiset?

 Varis vaakkui varvikosta,
 varis vaakkui, korppi koikkui:
 Oi on kurja kullansolki,
 ainoa Kalervon poika!
 Mit' olet mielellä pahalla,
 syämellä synkeällä?
 Ota vitsa viiakosta,
 110koivu korven notkelmosta,
 aja suolle sontareiet,
 lehmät liejuhun levitä
 puolen suurille susille,
 toisen korven kontioille!

 Kaikoa suet kokohon,
 karhut kaikki katrahasen!
 Suet pistä Pienikiksi,
 karhut Kyytäksi kyhäise,
 aja karjana kotihin,
 120kirjavana kartanolle!
 Sillä maksat naisen naurun,
 pahan vaimon parjaukset.

People like this did no such thing. People like this are the ones most likely
hang a Confederate flag in their living room and reminisce about the good old

Six people are about to shut themselves inside a dome in Hawaii for a year, in
the longest US isolation experiment yet aimed at helping NASA prepare for a

soil scientist. They are based on a barren, northern slope of Mauna Loa, living
inside a dome that is 36 feet in diameter and 20 feet tall. In a place with no
animals and little vegetation around, they will close themselves in at 3:00 pm
Hawaii time on Friday (0100 GMT Saturday), marking the official start to the
12-month mission.

The men and women have their own small rooms, with space for a sleeping cot

canned tuna, only going outside if dressed in a spacesuit, and having limited

The photos released by NASA look fake to me. I don't think Americans have ever

I'd say the characters in the photo are far from intimidated by gun laws and
know their  legal rights and willing to exercise them.Had they not, the story
wouldn't end there but would show them carted off to jail. A tad rebellious,
no? Their motive? Probably to get someone's panties in a wad. Looks like it
worked. And I didn't even have to get into some Freudian analysis of their
psyches.

I see it differently. They aren't looking for a reaction that would get
anyone's panties in a twist. They're, thinking they look tough and cool and
armed - unless they're actually in Halloween costumes. That's possible. The one
on the left looks particularly nerdy despite the gun. Here's the essential
question though: are they protecting themselves or looking to protect someone
else? Perhaps they're just carrying plastic/toy guns. I don't know, the whole
thing completely flummoxes me. It's stuff like this that makes me think I don't
belong on this planet.

Yup, them's the breaks. But realistically, even the good guys would find
guns too so that makes them the outlaws as well or at least the scofflaws.
Round and round we go.

It would be interesting to see wives put a dollar value on their husbands,
too. Does a good provider rate more highly than a great lover? You know, women
are very strange creatures. I have a female friend who has a big crush on a
cop, and the fact that he wears a gun and carries handcuffs is a big plus,
apparently. (For myself, experience has taught me not to mention the handcuff
thing on the first date. You never know, see.)

I think what constitutes value changes with chronological age. At the
beginning of a relationship it is imperative to be decent in bed or wherever it
takes your fancy to have sex: on the hood of a car, in a closet or under the
bed. After a decade or two the good provider thing starts to become more
important - at least so far as I have seen during my extensive study of such
matters. Decent looks don't hurt a value either just as either looking really
hot as a complete baldy or sporting a thick head of hair doesn't. Culture and
the desire to attend theater and art museums are a must in my book but may
result in a lowered dollar value for other women. I personally can do without
the uniform but I can imagine the appeal especially when it might suggest a
smidge of bondage ie handcuffs. So don't shy away from mentioning it on the
first date unless you object to being cuffed to some headboard by some
headstrong female suitor.

I think it's a great idea but rather difficult to put into practice. Do great
legs trump a sweet disposition, for example? One would definitely need some
guidelines on tricky things like that. But a monetary evaluation of one's wife
is surely very useful, since you would then know for sure whether you were
trading up or down when you went to the online swap meet.

I would have to agree on that. It does seem very subjective and mighty
challenging figuring out what characteristics are preferable. I think a nice
set of tits should trump legs but a willingness to give me a full body massage
daily might prove even steven with the ability to cook well and be happy to do
so for every meal. And then there is that little problem of what dollar amount
would be appropriate to apply to each characteristic and do you lose dollar
points for unfavorable attributes?
When all is said and done I wonder what the highest dollar value possible
would be and if there would be a kind of wife auction held online. So many
fascinating questions and now we'll never know.

Still, I'm not talkin' 'bout wandering gonads and vaginas, I'm talking about

[FairfieldLife] Replication Testing, about those Social-science studies

2015-08-28 Thread dhamiltony...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Would sure be nice to be able to do a replication test for the Maharishi
Effect/Meissner Effect of meditating at 1% or 5 or 10% of a larger population,
again.

Unfortunately the TM movement it seems has run out of the resources of money
and numbers of members in scale to do a large test again in replication, like
of the DC course or Taste of Utopia. We may never know, evidently.

NPR Science Friday had a section discussing the failure rate of science
research replication and the range of implication in the process of science in
a failure to replicate. ..Replication Failure is part of the process of
science, that refines it too..

 From NPR's Science Friday:

Replicating results is one of the cornerstones of science, so why is it so
difficult to reproduce a study? In a paper
http://www.sciencemag.org/content/349/6251/aac4716.fullpublished in Science,
collaborators with the Reproducibility Project https://osf.io/ezcuj/tried to
reproduce the results of 100 psychology studies. The researchers were only able
to successfully produce the original results in less than half of the studies.

I see it differently. They aren't looking for a reaction that would get
anyone's panties in a twist. They're, thinking they look tough and cool and
armed - unless they're actually in Halloween costumes. That's possible. The one

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: Further To My Thoughts on Gun Ownership...

2015-08-28 Thread Mike Dixon mdixon.6...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Oh really? Just what kind of person do you *imagine* stood up to George and
challenged the most powerful army and navy in the world, somebody that ate
tofu, meditated hours a day and lived off of the sweat of others because
everybody owed them an equal share of everybody else's efforts? N, history
tells us that most of the plotting to overthrow George was done in smoke filled
bars and taverns by average men over a jug of moonshine or rum, that wanted the
government out of their lives and to be left alone and that's pretty much the
sentiment of people that hang Confederate flags in their living rooms today. I
think maybe you've been watching too much *Roots*. People like these guys
wouldn't have been able to afford a decent or even an indecent slave! Having
sex with a slave? That would have been a notch above sex with goats, a real
perversion. Yeah, it happened but wasn't as common as some would have you
believe. Slaves, at that time, were thought to be riddled with VD, which there
was no cure for. Mullato was rare in the days of slavery. If you look at any
photograph of slaves from that period, you will see that  they look completely
different from the average African/American today. Inter-racial mixing is more
of a twentieth century experience. Admiring them? No, just not judging them.

People like this did no such thing. People like this are the ones most likely
hang a Confederate flag in their living room and reminisce about the good old
days when you could buy a decent slave at the local market then rape their
black daughters as part of their right of ownership. Now you've got me going...

You can be sure there'll another thousand Germans and Austrians who would be
claiming the same thing. Or, Poland would claim it for war reparations.

[FairfieldLife] Nasa Mars experiment

2015-08-28 Thread s3raph...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Six people are about to shut themselves inside a dome in Hawaii for a year, in
the longest US isolation experiment yet aimed at helping NASA prepare for a
pioneering journey to Mars. The crew includes a French astrobiologist, a German
physicist and four Americans - a pilot, an architect, a doctor/journalist and a
soil scientist.

The men and women have their own small rooms, with space for a sleeping cot
and desk, and will spend their days eating foods like powdered cheese and
canned tuna, only going outside if dressed in a spacesuit, and having limited
access to the Internet.

The photos released by NASA look fake to me. I don't think Americans have ever
really been to Hawaii . . .

Must have been another one of your admirers, Back. Me, I was likely sitting in
my frat room in a white shirt, tie, and jacket, drawing up my Main Points

Maybe you did, after all, I don't know who you are but I seem to remember some
sort of incident with a guy in high leather boots in some cornfield late at
night on one of those humid sultry FF summer evenings...

OK, if you call sex love, you're right. And I guess what the world needs now
is love sweet love, that's the only thing that there's far too little of.
Still, I'm not talkin' 'bout wandering gonads and vaginas, I'm talking about
putting a $$ value on your spouse for presumably how attractive or good in bed
they are or how often they offer to run and get you a fresh beer while you're
slouched on the couch watching football. This is what I'm having that teentsy

[FairfieldLife] Nazi gold up for grabs

A train loaded with Nazi gold has been found in Poland. It's been buried
underground since 1945.

As Adolf Hitler's last surviving relative I shall be claiming ownership.

The rest of you will have to be satisfied with one of those gold-plated
perfect all-metal authentic replicas available on eBay . . .

[FairfieldLife] Continuum Season 4

2015-08-28 Thread Bhairitu noozg...@sbcglobal.net [FairfieldLife]
Showcase in Canada released the first episode of Continuum season 4 this
week on their site as a promo. Syfy did not offer it but you can find
it on YouTube. Looks like it was only an SD version but if interested
one an find it here.

https://youtu.be/cmRAWf91g9A

The season starts next week in Canada on the 4th and on Syfy a week
later. Last year I bought season 3 on VUDU because it has the best
quality streaming. It may be likely that Netflix as they did before put
money into the series for the rights to show it after the VOD window
(usually about a month after the last episode airs).
