[FairfieldLife] Re: Countering a Post-Modern Spiritual Disabling of the Human Being..

2016-11-25 Thread yifux...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Thx, there's no clear-cut distinction between materialism and Spirituality,
since any particular materialistic item or even can conceivably be transmuted
into something allied toward the goal of Enlightening everybody in the
Universe. (a Mahayana Buddhist goal).
OTOH, a materialist can be defined as a person who worships (in a fashion),
anything/anybody as separate from purusha. But even that definition breaks
down since (for example), the Hare Krishnas claim that their conception of
Deity involves ONLY the "appearances and pasttimes" of Krishna; and to even
desire realization of the Impersonal Absolute (purusha) is a heresy.
Likewise, Fundamentalist Christians are only interested in establishing a
relative, dualistic relationship between themselves and Jesus, and to even
consider "Gnosis" is completely out of bounds and would entail shunning and
exclusion from one's Congregation.
Similarly, the Transcendentalist Spinoza was kicked out of his local Jewish
Congregation and shunned.
 ,,,
The bottom line: Fundamentalists involved in dualistic devotion as an activity
apparently separate from purusha represent simply : the status of the
evolutionary condition of those persons; and in terms of raw numbers, there's
far more Southern Baptists in any middle or small town than the numbers of
persons that Ammachi can gather together in CA.
I'm just reporting on the way things are, not the way things "should" be. The
Fundamentalists would vehemently deny that they are materialists. There must be
a vast gray area of transitional categories.
Ultimately, logic fails us in this discussion. By way of example, when
Katrina hit LA and other states, how many Quietists showed up on the scene to
help rebuild devastated homes. Otoh, large numbers of S. Baptists which tools
in their hands rushed in immediately before FEMA to voluntarily rebuild homes.
(and those persons with hammers and nails in their hands are materialists?).
The definition of Spirituality should be broadened, imo. Where to draw the
line? Nowhere. As soon as you draw the line somewhere, another person can come
in with an exception or move the line or the goalpost..

[ ..her observation was that everyone has opinions, like people have different
opinions about how to take their tea. But what good is fear? Her instruction
directly was to gain spiritual strength, to strengthen ourselves spiritually
without becoming too anxious about the future.

We are not candles that need to be lit but self-luminous suns. To just keep
moving with spiritual growth. That while we live in families and communities
that ultimately we are alone and so we look to find strength in ourselves.
Ultimately only God is there, gain mastery over mind.

Refocus on our dharma which is compassion and everything will be okay. With a
candle keep walking forward into the dark and extend the light. This is the
dark age of materialism, Kali Yuga.

There is virtue and divinity in everything, even a broken clock reads the time
correctly 2 times a day. Even in the worst human beings there is compassion
there too. You cannot force unity to happen, it unfolds by itself. Feel happy
first and others will be too. Every drop flows to the ocean. Do whatever you
can. Even though one half are gripped by fear everything will be alright, even
if it is not. Strengthen the internal mind to help others. Let the weapon be
love. Be strong (jestering active stance ). Don’t meet anger with anger. Do
the work. ]

 Post-election..
After such a brutal and divisive election, it is clearly vital that we heal
the rift and bring our nation back together. It is essential that we do
everything we can to bolster our national coherence during this turbulent and
sensitive transition. This will help calm the nation—and bring the best
possible result for our country while the new Government is being formed and
its priorities being set.
Fortunately, Maharishi has given us the technologies we need to defuse deep
societal tensions and bring powerful support of nature to the country. We
simply need to apply them to a sufficient degree.

I am seeing this generational attending happen right now here in the
Millennial Center, in downtown Detroit.

Ammachi is in Detroit having public programs and a several day retreat this
week. A lot of spiritual people gathered on retreat. Quite a lot from
Fairfield, Iowa here too.

Yesterday at the public darshan program you could see quite a large flow of
Gen-X coming in with their small kids. It was spectacular to see their
diversity in a seeming ‘spiritual but not religious’ demographic.

 That apparently is in constitution.

Thx for posting the article on Lynch. I have the hard copy in front of me.
On the ongoing battle between Quietism and Fundamentalist belief systems, the
Quietists (historically since the first century CE, Gnosticism) initially lost
as long as fundamentalist religions were in power in Europe, and that timespan
was from Emperor Constatine into the Age Of Enlightenment when (for example),
French patriots literally burned down the Catholic Churches. But such battles
continued well into the 20th century for example in Mexico during the 20's,
with Catholic Priests persecuted.
Therefore (at least in the West), and by no means discussing the East,
inroads by Quietism had to wait until the grip of Fundamentalism finally began
to wane.
Unfortunately, Quietism in the US (as exemplified by Emerson and Thoreau) took
a heavy beating when the efforts of the Wesley brothers (late 18-th century)
panned out with Methodist missionaries spreading their dogma all throughout the
country on all levels including the American Indians. Where were the Quietist
missionaries?
As stated before, the trend toward scientific materialism after Newton also
doomed Quietism from the "left" (liberal humanitarianism, coupled with
materialism and scientism) This occurred even though Newton himself was a
probable Quietist though he kept it a secret lest he offend the Anglican
Church. After all, if he wanted to maintain his position as the Chancellor the
Exchequer, advertising himself as a "Quietist" wouldn't go over very well!
Ironically, by the 20th century, it was science attacking from the left (via
Planck and Einstein, then the Quantum pioneers), that facilitated the crumbling
of the stranglehold of Evangelical Christianity on the upper crust of American
