[FairfieldLife] Fwd: Re-elect Rep. Phil Miller

2018-10-17 Thread Dick Mays dickm...@lisco.com [FairfieldLife]
Forwarded from a friend:

A very important correction to a previously misleading e-mail sent out by his
opponent:

Dear Progressive Voter,

The Republican candidate for State Representative for District 41 has been
spreading misinformation concerning the position of the incumbent Phil Miller
on the smart meter installation. We want to clarify the matter.

Phil has been actively engaged since January, 2018 in working with Alliant
Energy and the IUB (Iowa Utilities Board) to create a no-fee opt-out solution
to the installation of smart meters. Here’s a brief summary.
Phil became aware of the smart meter installation issue late last December.
Phil contacted Alliant Energy (AE) in January ’18 — he spoke with an AE rep at
the Statehouse where he expressed Fairfielders’ concerns. Phil asked that AE at
slow down the installation so we could have a proper dialogue and work towards
a reasonable agreement.
AE subsequently agreed to make Fairfield the last city to receive smart meters.
AE talked about putting meters at a distance from a house and allowing an
opt-out at customers’ expense.
Phil is appealing to AE and the IUB to have a no-fee opt-out.
If AE won’t back down and the IUB allows the opt-out fee, then Phil will submit
a bill to eliminate the fee.
No decisions on the fee and other terms for an opt-out will be made by the IUB
until after a final hearing or comment opportunity in November.

This election is too important to be decided by anyone’s position on a single
issue. Phil is a champion of the things that matter to us, as summarized in the
lengthy summary of all the candidates we recommend that we sent out last week.

Phil Miller for State House District 82: Native Iowan from farm family, local
veterinarian for more than 40 years, former President of Fairfield Community
Schools, active member of First United Methodist Church, former member of
Jefferson County Board of Health, and, with his wife Connie, parent to four
grown children and grandparent to 12 Website

Qualifications
Won the Iowa House seat vacated by Curt Hanson in 2017
Was deeply involved in public education as President of Fairfield Community
Schools
Small business owner (Veterinary Clinic)
Healthcare background — served on Board of Health; works as a veterinarian
Well known and liked by livestock farmers and pet owners

Quality, Affordable Healthcare: a basic need of all Iowans
Advocates that Medicaid be run by the State, not private by out-of-state
insurance companies
Wants all Iowans to receive the healthcare that they need
Sees Medicare-for-All as a possible approach to reducing costs and making
healthcare accessible to all

Well-Funded, High Quality Public Schools: a cornerstone of rural community
viability
Reverse the cuts in State support of public schools
Meet educational needs of high and low achievers, and provide technical
training for well-paying jobs
Restore collective bargaining rights of teachers to retain good teachers with
good salaries, working conditions and teaching resources
Keep class sizes small

Good Jobs in Southeast Iowa: maintain a high quality of life to retain and
attract people to rural Iowa
Supports State support of investment in local economies
Works closely with local businesses to prepare workers for available jobs
Supports livable wages to increase quality of life and decrease dependence on
government support

Our Comment: Phil listens, learns and works hard to understand issues. Though
willing to work across the aisle, he has been frustrated as the Republican
majority ignores the Democrats, passing laws dictated by ALEC that do not serve
the wellbeing of Iowans generally.

[FairfieldLife] Re: 30th November movement

2018-10-17 Thread dhamiltony...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Is a charming story telling.
It had a build-up and this was topical a few years ago.
A remarkable performance standing up there without notes or prompt of
powerpoint slides.

I listened to it early this morning again on my smartphone as I was doing my
official Maharishi asanas, before meditating.

The lecture presentation can work well enough in a perspective through the
‘message from Maharishi’, and then it heads out.

It, the 30 Nov. lecture, was cycled through on FairfieldLife when it happened.
It was interesting to see how it was digested then.
Take a look back at the posts on FairfieldLife from then.

I put related links to it in an index as the evolving story that is was.

Who is this guy? Does his have any followers in FF or elsewhere? His talk is
almost 3 hours long, but I guess it's worth listening to gather information.
