Dear Supporters of Permanent Invincibility for America,

We thought you would enjoy seeing these pictures of the newest group of
Vedic Pandits from India. The Pandits arrived last Friday and went straight
to their new campus in Maharishi Vedic City. This was the 10th group of
Vedic Pandits to arrive since October.

There are now almost 500 Vedic Pandits here on two campuses and more groups
will continue to arrive until there are 1050 Vedic Pandits to raise our
numbers flying each day on the Invincible America Assembly to 2500. The
Vedic Pandits from India are blessing America with invincibility.

Jai Guru Dev.

Urgent Need - Just a Few Hundred More Invincible America Assembly
Participants

The Invincible America Assembly has drawn thousands of Sidhas from the
United States and many other countries.

The experiences of bliss and higher states of consciousness in the large
group program have been greater than in any previous assembly. These
experiences have been deeply inspiring to Maharishi, who has brought out
such beautiful knowledge in response. Many course participants have
naturally stayed on the Assembly longer than planned. Many have returned
multiple times.

The size of our group has been close to the national invincibility
threshold - about 1,730 Yogic Flyers - even through the cold winter
months. And even though we have been somewhat shy of the required
number, we have created a dramatic change in our country. The most
recent example: the sudden and unexpected turnaround in U.S. foreign
policy towards Iran, Syria, and North Korea - a dramatic shift away from
confrontation and belligerence towards consensus building and peace.

Now is the time for us to surpass the threshold - and create stable
national coherence and lasting invincibility for America.

Next week, 133 more Vedic Pandits will arrive from India. If we can
inspire just a few hundred more Sidhas to join the Assembly, we will
reach the 2,000 level - our national super radiance number plus a safety
factor - and we will create a truly Invincible America.

HOUSING AVAILABLE!

We can accommodate many more people. More on-campus housing will be
available very soon, a good amount of off-campus housing is available,
and we sare creating additional flying space right next to the Golden
Domes.

Annapurna Dining Hall is even offering a new improved menu of organic
dishes. And spring weather is here.

Please tell your out-of-town friends to apply and encourage local Yogic
flyers to take advantage of this historic opportunity to enhance the
power of the Assembly. Maharishi is giving so much sustained attention
to this Assembly - and is looking at this as the turning point for our
country and our world.

Let's make hay while the sun shines.

Jai Guru Dev

Here's a little background on Maharishi Vedic Approach to Health:
The goal of Maharishi Vedic Approach to Health is to help every individual
enjoy total health. The ideal of total health goes back much farther than
1985, when we incorporated in the U.S. as Maharishi Ayurveda Products
International.
The original science of health is as old as the human race. It's called
ayurveda, which is Sanskrit for science of life. The written records of
this complete system of natural health care are about 5,000 years old. From
age to age, sages and physicians have rediscovered this timeless health
wisdom.
javascript:; javascript:; javascript:; javascript:; In 1980,
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of the Transcendental Meditation program,
began working with three of India's top ayurvedic experts, Dr. V.M. Dwivedi,
Dr. B.D. Triguna and Dr. Balaraj Maharishi. They revived the ancient
knowledge of health and called it Maharishi Ayurveda or Maharishi Vedic
Approach to Health. They formed a medical council that created our authentic
herbal formulas according to the ayurvedic texts. They also established an
international network of doctors, clinics and schools that are dedicated to
eliminating disease and offering perfect health to the people of every
nation.
We invite you to join our quest for total health for yourself, your family
and your world.

Professor Dr. John KonhausRaja of

Dear Recertified Governors, Governors,
Sidhas and Meditators in the Domain of Raja John Konhaus,Today
marks a most special day in our world. Maharishi has informed us that a “big
bubble of stress in world consciousness has burst!”Maharishi said
that, all the Rajas have been working in their domains and focused to send the
yogic flyers until the National Invincibility number is reached.
This consolidated effort throughout the United States and around
the world has had a very great effect… a big bubble of stress in world
consciousness has burst! Now, today, flags will be raised in every
domain because this is the great day of victory. Rajas have offered to the
people an integrated Natural Consciousness – Today is a great day
to raise the flag of the Global Country of World Peace.Maharishi
particularly appreciated the Recertified Governors in the domains who have
remained in their territory to support this new integration of world
consciousness in each of their own areas day by day.He expressed
his warm appreciation to all of you.Jai Guru

Dr. John HagelinNational Conference Call
Thursday Evening to Mobilize the Entire Country! (See details
below)Dear
Governors and Sidhas:During a tender, yet grave phone call this evening
here in Vlodrop, Maharishi warned me in the most urgent terms about the imminent
danger to the world posed by the spiraling crises in the Middle East and around
the world.Maharishi charged me, the Rajas, and all of us to rally our
strength--to join together to prevent the impending danger. Our government is
desperate for the peaceful, coherent national consciousness that only we can
provide. More than ever, America needs a powerful upsurge of positivity and true
invincibility--on the basis of indomitable peace.Maharishi is calling

welcome guests into their homes--Yogic Flyers who have come to contribute to
this vital national effort.THE "INVINCIBLE AMERICA COURSE" WILL BE HISTORIC AND
SUBLIMEThe
course will be rich with knowledge, profound experience, and Maharishi's close
personal guidance and participation. Maharishi has just designed a powerful new

			August 11th13th, 2006

at the Esalen Institute, Big Sur,
CA

The quest to understand the universe
and our place in it is at the core of both religion and science. At the beginning of
the 20th century social scientists predicted that belief in God would decrease by
the end of the century because of the secularization of society. In fact, never in
history have so many, and such a high percentage of the population, believed in God
and expressed spirituality. To find out why, Dr. Michael Shermer has undertaken a
monumental study of science, spirituality, and the search for meaning.

Since humans are storytelling animals, this study involves the origins
and purposes of myth and religion in human history and culture. Why is there is an
eternal return of certain mythic themes in religion messiah myths, creation
myths, redemption myths, end-of-the-world myths? What do these recurring themes tell
us about the workings of the human mind and culture?

We are also pattern-seeking animals. For countless millennia we have
constructed stories about how our cosmos was designed specifically for us. For the
past few centuries, however, science has presented us with an alternative in which
we are but one among tens of millions of species, housed on but one planet among
many orbiting an ordinary solar system, itself one among possibly billions of solar
systems in an ordinary galaxy, located in a cluster of galaxies not so different
than billions of other galaxy clusters, and so on, ad infinitum. Is it really
possible that this entire cosmological multiverse exists for one tiny subgroup of a
single species on one planet in a lone galaxy? This workshop explores the deepest
question of all: what if the universe were not created for us by an intelligent
designer, and instead just happened? Can we discover meaning in this apparently
meaningless universe? The answer is yes!

		 about the Esalen Institute

Esalen is, geographically speaking, a literal cliff, hanging
precariously over the Pacific Ocean. The Esselen Indians used the hot mineral
springs here as healing baths for centuries before European settlers arrived. Today
the place is adorned with a host of lush organic gardens, mountain streams, a
cliff-side swimming pool, hot springs embedded in a multimillion-dollar stone,
cement, and steel spa, and meditation huts tucked away in the trees. Esalen was
founded in 1962 by Stanford graduates Michael Murphy and Richard Price and has
featured such notable visitors as Richard Feynman, Abraham Maslow, Timothy Leary,
Paul Tillich, Carlos Castaneda, and B. F. Skinner. Regardless of your source of
spirituality (science, religion, or self), Esalen embodies the integration of body,
mind, and spirit.

		about the seminar leader

Dr. Michael Shermer is the Founding Publisher of Skeptic
magazine, the Director of the Skeptics Society, a monthly columnist for
Scientific American, the host of the Skeptics Lecture Series at the
California Institute of Technology (Caltech), and the co-host and producer of the
13-hour Fox Family television series, Exploring the Unknown.

He is the author of Science Friction: Where the Known Meets the
Unknown, about how the mind works and how thinking goes wrong. His book The
Science of Good and Evil: Why People Cheat, Gossip, Share Care, and Follow the
Golden Rule, is on the evolutionary origins of morality and how to be good

New Plan for Maharishi Jyotish and Maharishi Yagya programs
The basis of all Maharishi JyotishSM and Maharishi Yagya services is the Comprehensive Life Kundali (CLK)an elaborate preparation and study of the birth chart or horoscope of the individual and his or her closely related family members: mother, father, husband or wife, children. The CLK is prepared only once in a lifetime by a panel of experts in the Maharishi Jyotish program and will be an all-time standard reference for predictions, consultations, Muhurtas, compatibilities and Maharishi Yagya recommendations. The birth charts used in the CLK are now prepared under a new system of calculation which cannot be compared to the old. Please contact the Maharishi Yagya office in your Time Zone for more information on obtaining your Comprehensive Life Kundali.

immoral behavior.

			Nature precedes nurture. Biology sets
the parameters for behavior, whether consciously or unconsciously inspired.
Free will is more a convenient social and political ideal than a
dispassionate description of reality, and as such, writes Laurence Tancredi,
attorney and New York University Professor of Psychiatry, individual
sins may not be sins after all (p. 9).

Moral behaviors draw from nearly every component of the brain, but the
heavy lifting is performed in three areas: the amygdala, the
inhibitory networks (anterior cingulate cortex, hippocampus, hypothalamus, and
prefrontal cortex), and the mirror-neuron system. Broadly stated, the amygdala
generates emotional import from environmental stimuli while inhibitory structures
assist in regulating emotional responses. The prefrontal cortex, often referred to
as the brains command post, is crucial in managing complex
behaviors, and the mirror-neuron system is essential to learning by imitation.
Overwhelmingly intense responses by the first or deficiencies in or injuries to the
latter structures can result in bad decisions, and, ultimately, immoral behavior.

Even so, genes do not lord over every detail of human conduct. Biology
is more a firm hand clasped behind a heavy leash than ten tireless fingers strung
over a marionette. Genetic transmission of any given moral capacity is insufficient
to ensure a moral trait. In addition, some instruction, or external

In this weeks eSkeptic, we reprint Michael Shermers review of The
Universe in a Single Atom : The Convergence of Science and Spirituality by
the Dalai Lama (Morgan Road Books, September 2005, ISBN 076792066X) that appeared in

		Science Without Borders

a book review by Michael Shermer

In a 1987 lecture on The Burden
of Skepticism, the astronomer Carl Sagan opined:

In science it often happens that scientists say, You know
thats a really good argument; my position is mistaken, and then they
actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They
really do it. It doesnt happen as often as it should, because scientists are
human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the
last time something like that happened in politics or religion.

Well, Carl, heres a bit of good news, from no less a personage
than His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who writes in the prologue of his latest book,
The Universe in a Single Atom:

My confidence in venturing into science lies in my basic belief that
as in science so in Buddhism, understanding the nature of reality is pursued by
means of critical investigation: if scientific analysis were conclusively to
demonstrate certain claims in Buddhism to be false, then we must accept the findings
of science and abandon those claims.

Listen up, all ye who insist on squeezing the round peg of science into
the square hole of religion; if religious claims are not consonant with scientific
findings, it is wisest to err on the side of science, which employs self-correcting
machinery designed to weed out error, agenda, and bias. Not only do scientists
change their minds in the face of contradictory evidence, they do so regardless of
the religion, race, or nationality of the scientific colleagues who are doing the
contradicting.

Science is international, or non-national, in this sense, a
characteristic His Holiness says is in harmony with the teachings of Buddhism.
Because I am an internationalist at heart, the Dalai Lama explains,

one of the qualities that has moved me most about scientists is
their amazing willingness to share knowledge with each other without regard for
national boundaries. Even during the Cold War, when the political world was
polarized to a dangerous degree, I found scientists from the Eastern and Western
blocs willing to communicate in ways the politicians could not even imagine.

In my 1999 book, How We Believe, I outlined a three-tiered
model of the relationship of science and religion:

the conflicting worlds model, in which science and
religion are at war and one must choose between them;

the same worlds model, in which science and religion
are in harmony and one may have both simultaneously; and

the separate worlds model, in which science and
religion are different methods to deal with different areas of human concern. Since
that time, hundreds of books have been published in the field of science and
religion studies, which has blossomed with its own journals and magazines, college
courses, scholarly conferences, and even an annual million-dollar cash prize for the
individual who most contributes to uniting science and religion (the Templeton
Prize).

I thus approached this book with trepidation what else can be
said on this subject, especially by someone with no background whatsoever in
science? Yet, as I read I grew to respect the author, Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai
Lama, who at the age of 6 was enthroned as the reincarnation of his predecessor, the
13th Dalai Lama, in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa. Born to a peasant family in a
small village called Takster in northeastern Tibet, the

In this weeks eSkeptic, we present David Brins review of
  The Republican War on
Science by Chris Mooney. This review originally appeared in a September
2005 edition of the San Diego Union Book Review.

		 Political Science

a book review by David Brin

			 Sixty years ago, science emerged
dramatically from its ivory tower, with a flash and a bang.

Even before Hiroshima, a multitude of technical advances from
agriculture and antibiotics to radar and rocketry fed a burgeoning movement
called Modernism, which viewed change as inevitable. But the atom bomb made it
official: science vastly expands the potential range of human activity, for well or
ill. Mistakes could now have devastating consequences. If used wisely, a cornucopia
of innovations might serve and uplift billions.

Alas, wisdom is seldom obvious. We rely on politics to
determine policy an improvement over the whim of kings. But politics,
despite centuries of hard refinement, is still far more ego-driven art than craft.
Habits of at least four thousand years seem to favor self-interest, hierarchies and
dogma, instead of gathering evidence and cheerfully letting facts guide us.

Whats more, science has accumulated enemies. Some are put off by
the ambitious and optimistic Modernist Agenda of perpetual human self-improvement
a program aimed at discovering and then applying the very tools of Creation,
in order to make better societies, better lives, better generations. Is this
ambitious goal possible, or ethical, or even sane? Aldous Huxley once spoke for all
grouchy intellectuals, when he derided progress as just another
idol. Grumbling that it will all come to no good, voices ranging from Bill
Joy and Francis Fukayama to Osama and the Unabomber have shared a common underlying
theme, protesting the Wests headlong plunge into territories and powers once
left to God. Artists and authors, from Michael Crichton to Margaret Atwood, portray
technological ambition as hubris, that age-old, prideful route to chaos or
damnation.

It wasnt always like this. Back in 1945, even as humanity was
climbing out of the wreckage of its Nadir War, a sense of resilient, can-do
determination seemed to overflow. In his famed report Science: The Endless
Frontier, Vannevar Bush called upon the United States to transform and multiply
its martial accomplishments with unprecedented peacetime zeal using both
technology and perseverance to rebuild cities, refute bigotries, revitalize
education, end poverty, and provide more fulfillment for all. So stirring was this
aspiration that cynics and curmudgeons could do little more than bide their time.

Nor was this a partisan matter. The aspiration proclaimed by Bush was
thereupon propelled as much by Harry Truman and George Marshall as by Dwight
Eisenhower, who established the office of Presidential Science Advisor and gave it
real clout. John F. Kennedy is remembered as a gung-ho science booster, especially
regarding outer space, but Richard Nixon embarked upon just as many ambitious,
science-driven endeavors, for example vastly increasing funding for biological
research and responding to clear evidence of human-generated ecological harm by
creating the Environmental Protection Agency.

Have we benefited? Weather and communication satellites transformed
modern life, while advances in medicine, biology and agriculture enabled far more
people to survive and thrive. Acid rain and stratospheric ozone depletion were
rapidly diagnosed, prompting measures that at least checked
immediate calamity. And while there is still plenty of bad news to spur activism,
anyone who grew up in Los Angeles, 40 years ago, should attest that five times as
many people now live there, breathing air thats five times better. (Or,
rather, a fifth as bad.)

Title: eSkeptic: June 10th, 2005

eSkeptic: the email newsletter of the
Skeptics Society

		Friday, June 10th, 2005

The weeks eSkeptic offers two reviews of The Road to
Reality: A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe, by Roger Penrose
(Knopf Random House, 2005, ISBN 0679454438).

The first review, How Vast is Our Ignorance, is
by James N. Gardner, author of BIOCOSM. BIOCOSM (www.biocosm.org) was
selected as one of the ten best science books of 2003 by the editors of Amazon.com.

The second review, The Key to the Universe, is
by Michael Shermer, originally published in the New York Sun, March 2005.

		How Vast is Our Ignornace?

a review by James N. Gardner

The most difficult thing for lay people
to understand about science, Nobel laureate Murray Gell-Mann once told me after a
lecture in Portland, Oregon, is how very little scientists truly comprehend about
the basic nature of nature, how vast is our ignorance of the fundamental reality of
the cosmos. Gell-Manns statement reminded me of the comment of that supreme
master of quantum physics, Nobelist Richard Feynman, who once famously remarked:
I think it can be safely said that nobody understands quantum
mechanics.

Isaac Newton, the father of modern physics and author of the
Principia arguably the single most sublime achievement of the human
intellectmade exactly the same point some 300 years earlier when he said:

I dont know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I
seem only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then
finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean
of truth lay all undiscovered before me.

Why is it that our greatest geniuses Gell-Mann, Feynman,
Newtoncan humbly concede how pitifully limited is the reach of deep human
insight and comprehension while lesser spirits noisily proclaim the certainty of
their conclusions and forcefully dismiss dissent, doubt, or skepticism?

The short answer, I think, is that humans crave certainty, even false
certainty, in preference to the sense of vertigo induced by a clear-eyed
acknowledgment that we are, at least most of the time, stumbling in the dark down an
unmarked path through the baffling wilderness of an unknown perhaps
unknowable reality. Facing up to the limits of our knowledge and the
enormity of our ignorance is an acquired skill, to put it mildly. But it is a skill
well worth cultivating. For if we dont realize where the shoreline of
reasonably well established scientific theory ends and the vast sea of undiscovered
truth begins, how can we possibly hope to measure our progress toward a deeper and
more encompassing scientific enlightenment?

That is the leitmotif of Oxford physicist Roger Penroses
The Road to Reality: A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe. The
great virtue of this massive tome an imposing brick of a book that bristles
with equations and clocks in at a daunting 1,099 pages is not so much the
encyclopedic review it provides of the history and current status of theoretical
physics but rather its forthright acknowledgment that, for all its magnificent
achievements, modern science remains a flickering candle surrounded by inky mystery.
With refreshing candor, Penrose forcefully underscores the extent of our ignorance
about the origin and indeed the very nature of the physical laws
that govern the operation of our magnificent universe. What the enterprise of
science has compiled to date, in Penroses view, is a decidedly
incomplete guide to the laws of nature:

I hope that it is clear, from the discussion given in the preceding
sections that our road to understanding the nature of the real world is still a long
way from its goal. Perhaps this goal will never be reached, or perhaps there will
eventually emerge some ultimate theory, in terms of which what we call
reality can in principle be understood. If so, the nature of that
theory must differ enormously from what we have seen in physical theories so far.

The great iconoclasts and contrarians of science British
cosmologist Fred Hoyle, Princeton physicists John Wheeler and Freeman Dyson, Thomas
Gold, Francis Crick, Albert Einstein, and
