On my TTC in Majorca, there was a real basket case. This guy had absolutely no 
focus. Just stood in the lecture hall and drooled, a real mouth breather. 
Maharishi knew he had to do something and one of the things he did was limit 
this guys mediation and had him doing lots and lots of asanas and running, 
under supervision of Dr. Elliot. Rumor was that this guy had done a lot of 
drugs in the past which I believe can trigger major depression. Anyway, I saw 
the guy a year or two later and he looked much better... could breath through 
his nose at least and seemed much more focused.

TM can in some cases create or worsen depression.  TM uses lunar mantras 
which are generally cooling and slow the metabolism.  Thus the attendant 
benefits to high blood pressure and anxiety.  But some people already 
have a slowed metabolism and slowing it more can result in depression.  
One family member had such clinical depression.  One day when I had been 
invited to go to dinner I found her in a depressed state.  I had left 
some ayurvedic teas at their place and made her a kapha tea 
(stimulating) and it snapped it out of her depression for the rest of 
her day.
