You logic is astounding! I am sure Goerge did think highly of TM and
MMY up to his death. But when he wanted spiritual solence he was
surrounded by HK's. No contradiction.

And at the Concert for George at Albert Hall -- a great concert video,
btw, there were propbably over 100 HK "pundits" / chanters -- as part
of the opening, and in honored positions thru the concert. But no TM
signs that I could see.

And why would that be a negation of everything he said for decades?
Only the ignorant would think that following the Krishna's is against
TM. It would be like saying a TM Jew who meets with the Rabbi must be
out of TM. George Harrison was so much above stupid sectarianism, and
he stated clearly in that 'I still practice Transcendental Meditation
and I think it's great. Maharishi only ever did good for us, and
although I have not been with him physically, I never left him.'

I heard him say this on BBC TV. He also visited Vlodrop numerous times
in the 1990's for various consultations. One news report in the 90's
said he had a huge picture of Maharishi on his wall.

Being with his Krishnas is not a negation of TM. That is ridiculous.
Maharishi is an exponent of Krishna's teachings.

George Harrison gave a concert for the first NLP in 1992 in Britain.
It was in London. It was on the news and the radio at the time. A
search on the internet could probably find the evidence you need. He
did an awesome version of 'Taxman' from Revolver album, because
Maharishi was (crazily) advocating zero tax at the time.

Larry King told Maharishi on his program that Paul McCartney passed on
his warmest greetings to Maharissi.

I loved his solo on 'My White Bicycle' when he was with Keith West &
Tomorrow.
Remember The Crazy World of Arthur Brown? A TM teacher friend who
went independent in the mid-70's taught the amazing (dancing even

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: Beatles Rishikesh

2005-05-27 Thread Llundrub

On the set of a movie that he
produced starring Jeff Daniels called, "Checking Out" where I happened to be an
extra, I noticed GH dressed like a janitor pushing a broom. Between scenes I
talked to him because there was nothing else to do and he was just standing
around too. This was in middle 87 or 88 before he did the NLP thing.

I figured I had a common subject to
talk to him about and so I went up to him and asked him if he still did TM, and
he said, No. I asked him what he though of MMY and he said that MMY was always
good to him.  I then asked him about his huge strand of beads which were
about four feet long. They were sandalwood with notches that were worn
smooth.  He told me he did Hari Krishna mantra. I don't recall much else.
I remember looking at the beads and long mala though and noticing how much
he practiced from the wear.

Sorry it wasn't very exciting. I
talked to alot of stars at that point. I had no feckles about shyness.  I
was if anything shy about doing TM soo I didn't make much of a scene about it. I
think I once talked to Clint Eastwood about it too on the set of his movie,
"Bird," but I don't remember really.

But the concert was long before he passed away and he was still pretty

But it seems he had long mixed and matched his beliefs and practises.
I don't believe any of the celebrity figure TMers have ever taken the

We have George's quote from the press release of that concert 'I still
practice Transcendental Meditation and I think it's great. Maharishi
only ever did good for us, and although I have not been with him
physically, I never left him.'

Yeah I would think George would be into it more for the NLP and less
for Mahesh. He certainly wasn't practicing TM, as I have heard Ravi
Shankar's description of what practices he was doing around and at the
time of his death.

Clearly George did his concert at the Albert Hall in London in
support of the NLP and what a concert!!! Not only George, but Joe
Walsh and Gary Moore did great sets too. The final numbers had Ringo
on stage and Dhani Harrison joined in for the Chuck Berry number.
However, when writer Giuliano interviewed MMY about this concert MMY
seemed to suggest that George was only doing it for his own career.
The brief interview is out on CD, and a trim of it was released on
video.

I had heard that too, but never saw any evidence.

One of the things for me that helps me understand that the TMO was very
cultish, was the fact that people would lie to promote it. So unless I

They started recording Sgt. Pepper in December '66 and started
meditating in August '67.

McCartney visited with one of his daughters, who videotaped their meeting
with Maharishi's permission. George also visited Vlodrop. Maharishi was cool
to him at first but then became more friendly. George did a concert for the
Natural Law Party in the Royal Albert Hall.

A brilliant album indeed. I listened to it a thousand times as a
teenager in the mid seventies when all my friends were into Bowie,
Led Zepp, and Sabbath. And I'd never heard of TM. Also I must have
sung "Jai Guru Deva" 10,000 times as a teenager and I had no idea
what it was.

Before.

But in that vein, I heard Derek Taylor say (and this is not too far
off from an exact quote but it is paraphrased because I am working off
of memory): only good came out of India and the Beatles had the
highest song output as a result of their time there.

I'm always happy to hear that people go back to doing TM (even if
it's only once every few months as with Ringo), but really, who cares
what lowlife minstrels like the Beatles think? They did a lot of
deplorable things before and after they gained fame:

"The Beatles avoided arrest by offering to pay for the goods. They
didn't have the money, but the waiters pooled their money to raise
fifty pounds. Then the waiters wanted their money back. The Beatles
came up with a plan to mug one of the customers for the money. John
and Pete tried unsuccessfully to rob a drunken sailor several evening
later." http://www.beatlemoney.com/beatles6063germany.htm

this is also true, vaj
as reported by an Irish website:

http://www.tm-ireland.org/news.htm

Paul McCartney on Maharishi

Former Beatle Paul McCartney was the guest on The Charlie Rose Show on PBS
[US public broadcasting system] on Monday June 11, 2001. The interview
lasted 55 min. Charlie Rose's last question was "What do you look forward to
at this stage in your life?"

Paul answered that he looked forward to enjoying life. He shifted
immediately into talking about meditation and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi,
speaking of the value of the balancing and centering effects of
Transcendental Meditation --"it's always something you can come back to". He
spoke of how nice it was being with Maharishi in India in the 60's, saying
that Maharishi was the real thing, and that a lot of teachers or gurus of
that time were going around in Rolls Royces, with actresses, but that
Maharishi had done none of that. He added that before the Beatles left
India, Maharishi gave them signed copies of his book [probably "The Science
of Being and the Art of Living"], which Paul indicated was full of wisdom.
Paul spoke of his interest in seeing what Maharishi had written "Radiate
bliss consciousness. ENJOY."

Paul spoke of how important it was to enjoy one's life, and of his trip to
see Maharishi in Holland about 18 months ago. He said Maharishi is now in
his 80's, still working, and very vital and lively. Paul's two children
accompanied him. Before going in, they were told that it wasn't possible to
know how long the meeting would last--it might be short if Maharishi was
tired. The meeting lasted over 4 hours. Paul's daughter asked him if she
could shoot some video; Maharishi said of course it was okay. Paul's
daughter took the camera, and asked: "What do you have to say to the camera,
Maharishi?" He laughed and said, "ENJOY!"

Paul's comment on this to Charlie Rose was "Very consistent after 30
years!".

vaj, its true...reported by Ringo himself in
this interview in SAGA magazine last fall:

http://www.ringostarr.com/news/saga_nov04.html
"He also relaxes by using a skill he learned during his time as a Beatle:

their celebrated trip to India in 1968. Back then, Ringo seemed the least
keen, returning to the UK after a fortnight, while his colleagues' stay

"Even if I've not meditated for months, I can do it," he says. "It's
something I do a lot more now than I have been over the last 15 years. "For
me, meditation is a break from thinking. The benefits to me are quietening
my mind and soul down. At the end of a day, I can end up just totally wacky,
because I've made mountains out of molehills. With meditation, I can keep
them as molehills."

They still run the travel agency in Santa Monica. Some financial misjudgment
prevented their retirement. I think Jerry works at the travel agency part
time. I'm sure he still meditates. Not sure if Debbie does.

I'll try to find. It was recently in an interview.
(I'm not the one claiming Maharishi sleeps 2-4 hours a night, but I
know Margaret Thatcher only slept 5 a night, so it is not hard for
me to believe that Maharishi needed less sleep than her.)

I didn't write the above, but I remember McCartney saying he was
meditating (and had visited MMY recently for about 4 hours one
afternoon in Holland) about 4 years ago on the Charlie Rose Show.

Ringo said he was meditating on the Howard Stern Show about 2 years
ago and then I read it in an article which, I believe, was linked to
on this forum...

Her book was called "A Twist of Lennon" because her maiden name, or perhaps
her name with her next husband, was Twist. And you recall her take on Magic

[FairfieldLife] Re: Beatles Rishikesh

2005-05-25 Thread Robert Gimbel
-Was it Cynthia Lennon, who is the neutral writer, of what happened,
in India. I think her description in her autobiography pretty much
explains the motivation of "Magic Alex" and the jealousy which
ensued, at the time; typical of movements or organizations- politics
and back biting...

The plot thickens.

If by "what's her name" you mean Mia Farrow I think she said on
Howard STern's show a few years ago that she still meditates at
least once a day...

It's amazing to think that several of those guys in those photos are
still meditating regularly, or came back to it.
Paul McCartney said in an interview recently that he is meditating
(TM) again regularly, and believe it or not, even Ringo is back to it
regularly. I think Ringo loved George very much and must have expanded
a lot since George died (who of course was still meditating long up to
his death.) Whats her name still does I think? and I think Donovan
still does?
I'm not sure Maharishi still meditates :-)

Sincerely yours,
Slartybardfast

This "fairly neutral story", I believe, was written by Cynthia Lennon,
who has first hand knowledge, as she was there. This can be read in
her autobiography...
