sort of like taking the idea of being open and accepting to a new,
redicxulous level. And how can this possibly further advance one's
enlightenment, except to conclude, 'gee I'll never do *that*
again...'

Can you explain what walk-in means? Is it another spirit or

Sorry if this has already been covered by someone else. I did not
follow this thread very carefully.

My first exposure to the idea of a walk-in was in the writings of
a psychic named Ruth Montgomery. I think these were published in the
70's and 80's. There may have been more since, but I haven't been
checking.

Anyway, she described and defined walk-ins very thoroughly. She
was supposed to be receiving this information from astral guides.

The idea, popular in New Age circles, was that the end of the 20th
century and the beginning of the 21st century were supposed to be
very turbulent times, demanding that humanity receive guidance from
a lot of spiritually highly evolved beings. There were supposed to
be a lot of souls not currently in human bodies that were
volunteering for these roles as guides. Problem was, there wasn't
enough time for them to be born as humans, then grow up, then start
teaching. So it seemed ok if they took on someone else's already
grown up body. This was supposed to be ok if the original inhabitant
was so depressed about living that they would be happy to get out of
their current body and get a rest on the astral plane. So a really
depressed person gets a knock on the astral door asking if it's ok
to check him/her out, and if, after an initial period, all goes well
(well?!?) the two souls trade places. That means that the original
occupant is no longer there. The new occupant is supposed to get a
little confused at first, because of the mingling of it's own soul
memories (which it retains even after human embodiment, because it
is so highly evolved) and the memories of the original occupant
stored in the physiology. After a short adjustment, the person is
supposed to take off in an entirely new direction, since he/she has
a dharma/purpose that the original did not.

Is there such a phenomenon? I have no idea. Nor do I care really.

But on examining Irmeli's friend's story, it doesn't match up well
with Ruth Montgomery's definition of a walk-in. For one thing, it
doesn't sound as if the original soul left. So that would make this
more of a possession - dual occupancy. For another, the walk-ins are
supposed to be so highly evolved that they wouldn't need to be
replaced by a second walk-in.

Or maybe the person was just nuts?
