I seem to recall a Rory and the Hurricanes as being an inspiration

Yes, in a word. Ringo Starr was their drummer.
I think the Beatles poached him and caused some
ill feeling.

Johnny and the Hurricanes did Red River Rock,
Reveille Rock, and of course Rocking Goose 
which ideal for accompaniment by motor horn
whilst driving.
