If you think about the mythical guy the term came from, this rule doesn't seem to apply. Narcissus really *was* the most gorgeous guy around, gazed into the river, and fell in love with his own reflection. He could never find its equal in the world, so he died of heartbreak. The whole reason I nitpicked is that I ran into Isabelle Adjani in a cafe the other day. From what I hear from people who know her, she is a tad narcissistic.
