[FairfieldLife] Re: Wall Street meditation

There is no significant difference between "TM" and "Mindfulness." Both are
based on thinking.

Meditation can be defined simply as "thinking things over." There probably not
an intelligent person on the entire planet that doesn't pause once or twice a
day to take stock of their own mental contents.

And, everyone is transcending all the time anyway.

The article doesn't seem to recognize any significant difference between TM and
Mindfulness, and lumps all meditative techniques together (emphasizing
motivation and regularity of practice). However, in the battle between
Mindfulness and TM, I'd say that Mindfulness has a distinct edge since anybody
with a commanding presence as a teacher can learn Mindfulness online and hand
out a shingle as a teacher. With TM otoh, the TM org has an ongoing grip on
certification.
The ease of getting into Mindfulness compared to TM seems to be the major
ingredient supporting the recent popularity of the former in both Academia and
Wall Street.

bestowed on him by a teacher of Transcendental Meditation two years ago.

“I react to volatile markets much more calmly now,” Ford, 48, says. “I have
more patience.”

His meditative experience was my reaction to the recent market volatility too
as I watched it. But his was also like an early experience I had as I started
TM when I played ice hockey, where some guys sort of like that guy running for
President would want to dramatically scrap and try to provoke fights, I'd just
skate away in a space of equanimity and they would draw the time-out. Making
observation, hypothesis and testing it time and again it was remarkably
replicable science.
