[Echo Perspective] New folder design concept

2008-11-21 Thread Martin Sourada
Hi,

I've just finished first take of the folder design for Echo Perspective
[1]. I do not hide that the design has been inspired by Mac OS X Leopard
folder as well as current Echo folder. I've more or less retained the
original colour, but adjusted it to better fit with our colour palette.

Comments welcome,
Martin

Do I notice also a color change compared with the current icon? (not
that would be a bad thing)

Yup, not a big change but still pretty easy to see ;-) It's now slightly
more to the red spectrum of colours and less saturated (this is much
more obvious than the slight spectrum change).

For advices regarding the website it would be useful to know more about
it (like target - is it for beginners or for contributors, or format -
probably you use some CMS, a blog, wiki and/or forum).

I think it would be a good idea for it to have a CSS matching the look
of the main Fedora website.

Hello Adli, please remember that if such a website is using the word
Fedora in its domain name, you need special permission from Red Hat to
do so. The word Fedora is a trademark and must be protected to retain
its value and status worldwide. Please contact me off list and I can
help you with that.

It retains the thing I disliked the most about the old echo folder -
that weird curved bend. I have never seen a folder that looked like that
and it makes it seems cartoony like a folder from toontown. If it's
meant to be straight but bent, it needs shading to indicate that. I
think though, better to have a much more straight line than that weird

 Hi folks,

So I promised I'd send you a photo of the physical proof I received from
the printing company (MaverickLabel.com) for the stickers. There were
actually some issues with it (and the proof wasn't actually sample
stickers, just the stickers printed out on-size on some nice paper for
color comparison so the photo wouldn't have been super awesome anyway.)
I've been through a few rounds with the printing company to correct
various issues and I just received a digital proof from them that I'm
pretty happy with. I've attached it for you to see.

The colors are PMS-2935 and PMS-541. The pink lines show where the die
cuts will be made and thus how the stickers can be peeled off the sheet.
The proof is scaled pretty small: the sheet is actually going to be
roughly 8'x 10' so there's plenty of space to write in the 'write your
 own' sticker bubbles.

If we approve it by COB 11/24 I'll receive them by 12/02 which is in
plenty of time for FUDcon Boston in January.

Does this look good? If you see any errors or issues let me know and
I'll have them fixed, otherwise I'd like to send to send them my
 approval ASAP.

 Thanks :)

I'd like the folder to be from more elastic material, perhaps leather,
therefore it makes sense if it is bent. But yeah, the curve might be
done differently. Or perhaps you mean the front-upper part? In this case
that's what I like about the old echo folder... It makes it different
from other themes and I pretty much like it that way... But I'll sketch
a non-bent version to see if it actually isn't better (but not before
tomorrow).

Well, the nice thing about these stickers is they're *extremely*
inexpensive. So we can hand out a sheet or two per person, and people
can paste *both* a freedom bubble and the logo together! :-)

JUst a question nothing more; but ...

I think you mean Leaders, not followers. But I think it's important
for us not to develop too many official slogans, because it dilutes
our message. What is Fedora? 4 Foundations? IFV? Leaders? ZOMG
stickers!!!1!!? (Just kidding about that last one.)

But the *other* nice thing about these stickers is it gives people a
chance to personalize them, so you can have your own special slogan
and put it next to other Fedora stickers -- making it your own!
