Where the user noticed that larger cursors aren't animated. That's
always been true because we never finished the cursors at at the larger
sizes.

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to tackle this?

There is a huge problem with our current (Bluecurve) icon theme: the
source is available only in raster (Photoshop) format, so to make
anything with it you have to basically redraw it (with the lack of any
written guidelines). If someone is interested in the task, here are the
files: https://fedorahosted.org/bluecurve/browser/bluecurve/cursors

But there appears a logical question: if we moved past Bluecurve as an
icon theme, is not logical to go with a fresh cursor theme too?

We had some people trying to create cursor themes from scratch, the most
notable effort being related to the Echo theme[1], but as Echo is
somewhat in a limbo, the cursor theme is in a worse shape.

note: I don't see on art.gnome.org of gnome-look.org categories for
cursor themes to propose something else as a base.

I believe you used the Flame filter from GIMP, right? Here are some
things I believe you can improve:
- you have a white outline around the logo, this is, I believe, caused
by the fact that you didn't have a SVG of the logo and used a raster
image from where you tried to delete the white background;
- I don't like the cyan hallo around the logo, I think its color does
not fit;
- also the hallo is cut strangely, like you had a problem with the blur
filter. Can you tell what you did, maybe we know how it can be done
properly.

Thanks Martin, I must be blind or something :p

I see there some nice looking cursors, with a lot of work behind them,
but I don't think I saw something I would recommend as a default. Maybe
because we have the bar raised so high with our current theme.

Artwork for x86_64 Live CDs and Install DVDs for North America

2008-12-22 Thread Clint Savage
Hi all,

I was perusing the Media Art page today looking for label and sleeve
art for the x86_64 architecture. NA is ordering LiveCDs and Install
DVDs for these arches in addition to the x86 media. My concern is
that there is not any artwork for the x86_64 architecture on the wiki
as of yet.

per this discussion:

https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-art-list/2008-November/msg00075.html

There was a follow-up in irc #fedora-ambassadors (unfortunately, I
don't have the log of the info off-hand, I'll try to find it)
discussing the labeling for x86 vs x86_64. I believe the results
were:

x86: For Intel compatible PC's
x86_64: For 64-bit Intel compatible PC's

I'm planning to take the labels / sleeves from the F10 Media Art
page[1] and update them to include new scribus, pdf and eps versions
for the 64-bit arch. I should have the new media art up by tomorrow
evening at the latest. As soon as I have this art, I'll follow-up
asking for a few +1s so we can pass them onto the media company. If
anyone can get them up faster, I would love the help, just let me
know.

Cheers,

Clint

sidebar
For those not familiar with this discussion, I wanted to make sure the
reasoning is explained here. Many computers in NA (and EMEA as I
understand it) are now shipping 64-bit processors. Most manufacturers
are moving away from the 32-bit model. The thing is, that while the
32-bit spins will work on 64-bit machines, they are not taking full
advantage. Because of this, NA decided to ship 64-bit as well as
32-bit media. The cost of media has been reduced and thus we are able
to produce more media for less cost.

 Hey,

I was just looking through the art list for once in a while again and
i would like to suggest some ideas i have for fedora 11. Just to see
if they are possible to get in or if they don't even make a chance.

My idea for the general theme is to go back to the old fedora days.
fedora 1, 2, 3 and 4 and base a theme on that style.
Then that style has to be visible everywhere throughout fedora:
 - Grub
 - Boot
 - Splashes (kde, gnome etc...)
 - Window Decorations (reed WIN-DEC)
 - Button styles

 WIN-DEC:
Fedora has Nodoka for a few releases now but everytime i see fedora
again i feel like i want to go back to the old theme of the first four
fedora releases. That theme wasn't bad and looked very good.
I am actually now downloading Fedora Core 4 to see how all looked
exactly. To refresh everyone's mind. here is a screenshot tour.
 http://bigmonkey.claudeplante.com/20070619/images/20070619_42.jpg
 http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=articleitem=204num=1

now i'm NOT suggesting to re-use that theme in the same style but
just to create a new theme based on those colors.

So what do you think about this?
Is it worth starting to make mockups?

Btw if you want to download Fedora Core 4 as well:
ftp://ftp.net.pulawy.pl/pub/linux/fedora/4/iso/ (one of the only
reasonable good links i could find)

We are going to wait until the F11 codename is decided on (in a couple
of weeks or so) until we decide what to do about the theme. A few of us
discussed this earlier and felt that if we all worked on the same idea
rather than each person working on a different idea, then we could all
work together rather than separately and come up with a more
collaborative, higher-quality theme. We are worried that the codename
may not be so inspirational for a theme, but even if it isn't, we can
have a meeting or some kind of brainstorming session where we can reach
a nice, visually pleasing theme idea together to move forward with,
inspired by the codename or not.

So let's wait a couple of weeks and reach a decision together, is that okay?

 Regards,

If you have Fedora 10 installed your really better of making the
screenshots yourself because of the resolutions.
If you don't have Fedora download the DVD or the Gnome live cd (where
you have to install KDE as well for one of the shots).
Install it in a vmware session (or Sun's VirtualBox which is good as well).
The screenshots in the image are (from top to bottom):

1. KDE Splash screen
2. Fedora Login screen (GDM)
3. Default fedora gnome screen

Good luck.
