I think that is an exageration. But at various times in the development
cycle debugging is often turned on in the kernel. This can impact performance
or just make the kernel downloads larger. There are separate debuginfo
packages you can get, but you don't get those by default.

1 - during the first boot smolt panicked - there was an error related

2 - I tried to reboot the system - ctrl + alt + del, but it stopped on
 process termination
3 - after reboot system wanted my root password for partition check -

I guess this is a plymouth bug. I disabled it in grub conf and system

Hi All,

 * Moblin graphical interface for netbooks - The Moblin graphical
interface and applications are fully integrated thanks to Peter
Robinson, a Fedora Project volunteer, and others. To use it, just
install the Moblin Desktop Environment package group using yum or the
graphical software management tools, and choose Moblin from the login
manager. A F12 Moblin Fedora Remix (installable Live CD) will also be
 available.

I'm a little late to the Fedora 12 beta party (thanks to life for
getting in the way) as I was hoping to get a test LiveCD out right
after the beta but fashionably late here is the first cut of the
Fedora Mini - Moblin livecd based on todays rawhide. It has been
tested on a eee PC 901 and should work fine on Intel Atom based
netbooks. You mileage may vary on other platforms especially on non
Intel graphics cards.

Please let me know of feedback on the live cd and report bugs against
specific packages.

Enjoy
http://fedora.roving-it.com/FedoraMoblin12-LiveCD.iso

I plan to do at least weekly test releases of the livecd in the lead
up to Fedora 12.

Cheers,
Peter

From a quick look, we don't have a bug filed for the fact that entering
the root password at this point doesn't work with Plymouth. Could you
please file one with a full description, and mark it as blocking
F12Blocker? Thanks.

Here is a bug report

I don't know how to mark it as a blocker.

Please file a bug for this, on 'udev' component for now, and CC Harald

Note that on my Thinkpad R52 Laptop F11 started doing this after
a udev RPM update. It turned out to be the fact that there was no
floppy drive in my system but the BIOS was configured with one
enabled. I suspect this is default in some laptops so that
docking stations etc work ??
I think this bug is in Bugzilla, but I suspect it has not

That one's known, but is different from what the OP was seeing. With the
floppy-enabled thing, the system pauses entirely for pretty much exactly
a minute. The OP's case is different as bootchart shows.

I don't remember if a bug got opened for that one or not, basically when
firstboot loads the smolt module fails so it doesn't load. It's
attempting to import a deprecated library that doesn't exist. It doesn't
actually prevent any functionality other then users don't get prompted to
enable smolt. Firstboot continues as normal with license, create user,

It _may_ not actually have stopped, rebooting from firstboot can be
quite sluggish I've noticed, but goes through eventually.

The fact that it wanted to do fsck at all may be

Review will focus on unresolved bugs listed on the F12Beta list

Have an issue you'd like to propose for F12Beta? Please consider the
following criteria when escalating an issue:

* Can this issue be fixed with a future rawhide update or is it
part of the media kit?
* Is this defect a high (or greater) severity [1] with no, or an

* Does the presence of this bug dramatically reduce test coverage?

If in doubt add it to the blocker or ask for help.

as a candidate for blocker status, because it's a regression in a
well-publicized feature. (The maintainers are already aware of the
problem and working on it, I'd just like to make sure it's not lost in
 the shuffle.)

That criterion is worth considering generally for blocker status. But
 maybe it needs some refinement?

We don't really have hard and fast criteria for blockers. This is for
two reasons: a) we're too lazy to write any, and b) it's really hard. b)
obviously has significant implications for a). ;)

less flippantly, it's almost impossible to quantify blocker-ness in
terms flexible enough to cover all cases, but rigid enough to be of any
actual use in objective evaluation (as opposed to just coming down to a
subjective judgment call, which is what we currently use).

We have a fairly solid definition for *Alpha* blockers - only 'high' or
'urgent' severity bugs in critical path components - but even that
requires occasional exceptions, and the higher standard required of Beta
and final releases makes it harder to define blocker-ness.

So, short story, right now it's a judgment call. I'd certainly judge
that this bug is a _final release_ blocker. Whether it's a beta blocker
is a trickier call. We'll make sure to cover it in the meeting on Friday
to see what everyone thinks.

The two main ways to propose something as a blocker: show up to the
meeting and raise it, or simply set it as one (as someone's done for
this bug already - it's been set as a final release blocker at present)
and it'll automatically get looked at during the meeting. If the
consensus at the meeting is that it isn't a blocker, it'll be dropped
(with an explanation).
