Please do not reply directly to this email. All additional
comments should be made in the comments box of this bug report.

Summary: Review Request: pinot - Personal search and metasearch for the Desktop

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=251317

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-08-13 04:24 EST ---
Some notes:

* On %build section

%configure
CFLAGS=$RPM_OPT_FLAGS make

  - %configure sets CFLAGS and setting CFLAGS environ
on make should not be needed.

* Directory ownership
  - Please make it sure that all directory this package creates
newly are owned by this package.
Currently the following directories are not owned by
any packages.

%_libdir/pinot/
%_libdir/pinot/filters/
%_sysconfdir/pinot/

* Debuginfo source permission
  - Currently rpmlint complains a lot against debuginfo rpm
like:

E: pinot-debuginfo script-without-shebang
/usr/src/debug/pinot-0.75/UI/GTK2/src/indexDialog.cc
E: pinot-debuginfo script-without-shebang
/usr/src/debug/pinot-0.75/UI/GTK2/src/WorkerThreads.cpp

This is because the original source codes have inappropritate
permission (which must be 0644).

* Executable permission v.s. shebang
-
E: pinot-deskbar non-executable-script
/usr/lib/deskbar-applet/handlers/pinot-live.py 0644
-
  - This is because this script has shebang (#!/usr/bin/env python)
but does not have executable permission.
It looks that this script is called by some software and it is
not executed directly. So remove shebang from this script.

* scriptlets - update of gtk icon cache
  - (please check GTK+ icon cache of
 http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/ScriptletSnippets )
* Scriptlets are needed even for %postun.
* Please make it sure that this script ends with success
  (i.e. add || :  or add exit 0)

This is because the original source codes have inappropritate
 permission (which must be 0644).
how can I fix this whitout changing the tarball itself?
chmod 0644 in %build or %install causes permisson issues.

stupid mistake please ignore this comment.

Given that this package is fine split, I'd rather wait until the upstream source
is fully fixed and explicitly clarified before approving this. IANAL, but
upstream merely stating go ahead doesn't satisfy #2 above.

Just tried to rebuild (on rawhide) but it failed..
 http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=99778

Hmm, so it turns out some parts use glib1 and other parts glib2, not pretty,
anyways I've just updated to a new version, because of some other issues. And
that fixes the need for glib1 too (no longer needed), here is the new version:

Spec URL: http://people.atrpms.net/~hdegoede/mdbtools.spec

Vivek, since you're currently maintaining the tomcat5 rpm, do you think you
could review this package? If you're too busy, just say so.

If you can wait for a day or two I can certainly take a shot at reviewing.

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-08-13 14:50 EST ---
 MUST Items:
  - emac.svg {artistic view of apple logo} is still included - is it OK to
 include in Fedora ?

Logo? It's a drawing of a computer monitor, must be ok.

.? If the package does not successfully compile, build or work on an
 architecture - :
  - I tried only on i386{i686/athlon}
  - no excludearchs listed.
  - have you tested on x86_64 or mac ?

Lyonel on ppc, I have tested x86_64, ok.

.x At the beginning of %install, each package MUST run rm -rf %{buildroot} (or
 $RPM_BUILD_ROOT):
  - the command is: %{__rm} -rf %{buildroot}, which is not standard, why ?

.x must have a %clean section, containing rm -rf %{buildroot} (or
$RPM_BUILD_ROOT):
 - %{__rm} -rf %{buildroot} differs from this requirement.

Not fixed, see next issue.

.? Each package must consistently use macros:
  - no new macros are defined.
  - %{x} are actually %{__X}, again, why ?

I read this as not to mix $RPM_BUILD_ROOT and %{buildroot}, sed and %{__sed}.
I prefer to use the macro versions, hence rm -rf is %{__rm} -rf.
Anyway, this is pedantic.

? - COPYING is included in both lshw and lshw-gui. However, lshw-gui Requires
lshw, so the COPYING is guaranteed to be installed already. I don't know if
that is normal, or whether it could / should be removed.

Requires is not enough, lshw-gui could e.g have a BSD license.

.? The package should compile and build into binary rpms on all supported
 architectures:
  - only tested on i386 {athlon}

Tested on i386, ppc and x86_64.

Personally, I think console helper should be saying ~this program performs
better when run with root privileges, and give the normal user a chance to
 ~run
unprivileged. This makes the app at least somewhat useful if you do not have
root rights on the system. This might also means not placing in /usr/sbin ?

This not make sense to me.

I also suggest: that even though lshw includes a copy of hw data, that any
 such
files included by fedora hwdata should not be packaged. This has the
advantages of:
 - removes any confusion / discrepancy that would otherwise occur if the result
of other fedora hardware tools is compared to lshw that included different
 hwdata files.
 - shouldn't require updates to lshw when only hw data has been updated.

Until hwdata is more frequently updated the way lshw is doing this now
is most sane, if things changes hwdata info in lshw can be removed.

[Bug 251019] Review Request: lshw - Hardware lister

2007-08-13 Thread bugzilla
Please do not reply directly to this email. All additional
comments should be made in the comments box of this bug report.

Summary: Review Request: lshw - Hardware lister

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=251019

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-08-13 15:04 EST ---
The problem is that the reported information will be highly inaccurate (and,
 on
certain platforms like x86, not only incomplete but *different* from what you
get as root) when lshw is run as normal user.

Agree, you should be root to run the tool consolehelper solves this.

Maybe I should add a warning in
the GUI (like what you get when running the CLI as non-root user). What do
 others think?

A warning would be nice, however that's is feature request in lshw, is
not critical for this review which is about inclusion in Fedora (let's
not forget that).

I have added to lshw's SVN some drawings without logos and also replacement
logos for intel, amd, powerpc (cf.
 http://dev.ezix.org/source/packages/artwork/nologo/ comments welcome).

Looks great, will include them when they are part of a proper
release. Again: lshw works great without logs, this issue is not
critical for this Fedora inclusion review.

as discussed earlier (cf. duplicate BR), lshw makes use of *both* sources
(system's hwdata and bundled data files) so it always uses the most recent
 data.
It'd be good to have Fedora's hwdata updated once a month but it's currently
 very old and updated infrequently.

In a perfect world hwdata would be updated every month, it's not so
lshw must be included it's own data. Things might change and then we
will adapt.

I may add an option (in the GUI) to download fresher files in the
future and cache them in $XDG_CACHE_HOME/lshw (usually
 $HOME/.cache/lshw).

Nothing stop you, it's your software, however it outside the scope of
this review.

Sorry for the miss-collision - I haven't noticed you talk to take the review
 Feel free to re-take it...

No problem then Nicolas, seeing as you've already made a start, feel free to
continue with the review, I'm sure Hans won't object. I'm CC'ed in anyway as I
have an interest in seeing this in Fedora. Cheers.

Summary: Review Request: rpmrebuild - A tool to build rpm file
from rpm database
   Product: Fedora
   Version: devel
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: medium
  Priority: medium
 Component: Package Review
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 QAContact: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Spec URL: http://www.the-silvas.com/rpmrebuild.spec
SRPM URL: http://www.the-silvas.com/rpmrebuild-2.1.1-2.src.rpm
Description:
You have an installed package on a computer, want to install on other
one, and do not find the rpm file anymore.
Or you want to distribute your customization in an rpm format
this tool is for you.

A few extra notes:

--- This is my first package, and I need a sponsor.
--- Output from rpmlint:

W: rpmrebuild hidden-file-or-dir /usr/lib/rpmrebuild/.popt
E: rpmrebuild only-non-binary-in-usr-lib
W: rpmrebuild dangerous-command-in-%postun rm

--- The Error are related to some shell scripts that go into the rpmrebuild

AspectWerkz is a dynamic, lightweight and
high-performant AOP/AOSD framework for Java.
AspectWerkz utilizes runtime bytecode modification
to weave your classes at runtime. It hooks in and
weaves classes loaded by any class loader except
the bootstrap class loader. It has a rich join
point model. Aspects, advices and introductions
are written in plain Java and your target classes
can be regular POJOs. You have the possibility to
add, remove and re-structure advices as well as
swapping the implementation of your introductions at
runtime. Your aspects can be defined using either an
XML definition file or using Runtime Attributes.

SRPM URL: http://vivekl.fedorapeople.org/rpms/bsh2-2.0-0.1.b4.1jpp.1.fc8.src.rpm

BeanShell is a small, free, embeddable, Java source interpreter with
object scripting language features, written in Java. BeanShell executes
standard Java statements and expressions, in addition to obvious
scripting commands and syntax. BeanShell supports scripted objects as
simple method closures like those in Perl and JavaScript(tm).
You can use BeanShell interactively for Java experimentation and
debugging or as a simple scripting engine for your applications. In
short: BeanShell is a dynamically interpreted Java, plus some useful
stuff. Another way to describe it is to say that in many ways BeanShell
is to Java as Tcl/Tk is to C: BeanShell is embeddable - You can call
BeanShell from your Java applications to execute Java code dynamically
at run-time or to provide scripting extensibility for your applications.
Alternatively, you can call your Java applications and objects from
BeanShell; working with Java objects and APIs dynamically. Since
BeanShell is written in Java and runs in the same space as your
application, you can freely pass references to real live objects into
scripts and return them as results.

jMock is a library for testing Java code using mock objects.
Mock objects help you design and test the interactions between the
objects in your programs.
The jMock package:
* makes it quick and easy to define mock objects, so you don't break
the rhythm of programming.
* lets you define flexible constraints over object interactions,
reducing the brittleness of your tests.
* is easy to extend.

Joda-Time provides a quality replacement for the Java date
and time classes. The design allows for multiple calendar
systems, while still providing a simple API. The 'default'
calendar is the ISO8601 standard which is used by XML. The
Gregorian, Julian, Buddhist, Coptic and Ethiopic systems
are also included, and we welcome further additions.
Supporting classes include time zone, duration, format
and parsing.

SRPM URL: http://vivekl.fedorapeople.org/rpms/oscache-2.2-2jpp.2.fc8.src.rpm

OSCache solves fundamental problems for dynamic websites:
+ Caching Dynamic Content - Dynamic content must often be
executed in some form each request, but sometimes that
content doesn't change every request. Caching the whole
page does not help because sections of the page change
every request. OSCache solves this problem by providing
a means to cache sections of JSP pages.
+ Caching Binary Content - Generated images and PDFs can
be very costly in terms of server load. OSCache solves
this problem through a Servlet 2.3 CachingFilter which
can cache any URI (such as an entire page or a generated
image/PDF)
+ Error Tolerance - If one error occurs somewhere on your
dynamic page, chances are the whole page will be returned
as an error, even if 95% of the page executed correctly.
OSCache solves this problem by allowing you to serve the
cached content in the event of an error, and then
reporting the error appropriately.

with any number of hosts on a LAN. It is specifically
designed for use by clustered, database-driven web
applications. Such applications typically have many
more read operations than write operations, which
allows SwarmCache to deliver the greatest performance
gains. SwarmCache uses JavaGroups internally to manage
the membership and communications of its distributed
cache.

Spec URL: http://vivekl.fedorapeople.org/rpms/xtsream.spec
SRPM URL: http://vivekl.fedorapeople.org/rpms/xstream-1.1.3-1jpp.2.fc8.src.rpm

XStream is a simple library to serialize objects to XML
and back again. A high level facade is supplied that
simplifies common use cases. Custom objects can be serialized
without need for specifying mappings. Speed and low memory
footprint are a crucial part of the design, making it suitable
for large object graphs or systems with high message throughput.
No information is duplicated that can be obtained via reflection.
This results in XML that is easier to read for humans and more
compact than native Java serialization. XStream serializes internal
fields, including private and final. Supports non-public and inner
classes. Classes are not required to have default constructor.
Duplicate references encountered in the object-model will be
maintained. Supports circular references. By implementing an
interface, XStream can serialize directly to/from any tree
structure (not just XML). Strategies can be registered allowing
customization of how particular types are represented as XML.
When an exception occurs due to malformed XML, detailed diagnostics
are provided to help isolate and fix the problem.

The GNU Trove library has two objectives:

Provide free (as in free speech and free beer),
fast, lightweight implementations of the java.util
Collections API. These implementations are designed
to be pluggable replacements for their JDK equivalents.

Whenever possible, provide the same collections support
for primitive types. This gap in the JDK is often
addressed by using the wrapper classes
(java.lang.Integer, java.lang.Float, etc.) with
Object-based collections. For most applications, however,
collections which store primitives directly will require
less space and yield significant performance gains.

SRPM URL: http://vivekl.fedorapeople.org/rpms/javassist-3.5.0-1jpp.1.fc8.src.rpm

Javassist (Java Programming Assistant) makes Java
bytecode manipulation simple. It is a class library
for editing bytecodes in Java; it enables Java
programs to define a new class at runtime and to
modify a class file when the JVM loads it. Unlike
other similar bytecode editors, Javassist provides
two levels of API: source level and bytecode level.
If the users use the source-level API, they can edit
a class file without knowledge of the specifications
of the Java bytecode. The whole API is designed with
only the vocabulary of the Java language. You can even
specify inserted bytecode in the form of source text;
Javassist compiles it on the fly. On the other hand,
the bytecode-level API allows the users to directly
edit a class file as other editors.
