you can get a pound of powdered lysine--something like 450 doses--for less
than $15.00 check the archives, sources have been mentioned a number of
times!

I get lysine for Simba, my FIV+, in gel form from the vet. I just suck
it right into a syringe squirt it into his mouth. It's supposed to be
palatable for cats, but he's too smart...he knows I'm trying to slip him
something won't eat it if I put it in his food. It's called Viralys
it's $12.00 for 5 oz. It contains 250 mg of lysine per 1/4 tsp. I'm not
sure how this compares cost wise to other products, but thought I'd throw it
out there because it's easy to give.

Have you tried mixing the lysine into some chicken or turkey baby food?
most cats really love baby food and will eat lysine mixed into it.

Junior's update

2006-12-01 Thread Sally
Junior saw the other vet today. He is always cheerful, but not real
encouraging. Anyway Junior still has the upper respiratory and uvetis. I
have already taken the advice of those suggesting putting the l lysine in
baby food. This was after I gave Junior his new antibiotic Clindamycin. It
is supposed to help his eye as well as the URI. Since Dr Staunton was not
there today so I did not get a chance to give her the paper on the Alferon.
The Dr also gave Junior a shot, which was not on the bill. I assumed it was
B12 as he said it would sting. I have had them and they do sting..lol.

Tiny got vaccinated for everything. He remains asymptomatic. He is staying
with Junior, so his immune system must still be working pretty well.

Home test for FELV

2006-12-01 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I am researching for my daughter-in-law and kids who recently moved to a small
farm and have acquired a number of kitty castaways. DIL has been feeding them
in the barn, but last week one of the grown cats stopped eating and started
having bloody diarrhea. A vet diagnosed Felv, and he recommended testing all
the rest of the group.

I found online saliva test kits for home use. Could someone tell me if these
are reliable? Are they reliable for both cats and kittens? Are they
indicators for animals who have recently acquired the virus as well as those
with long-term infection?

I really hope someone here might advise me. This is our first close-up
acquaintance with Felv and although there is a huge amount of info on line, I'd
like to walk a path someone else has already found to be successful. Right now
I believe what we want most is to figure out which ones are already affected.

I will greatly appreciate any advice you can offer, Thanks, Pat

Poor Junior's eye is so sore. He has been through so much this year. He is
already blind in this eye due to his encounter with a car. I suppose this
weakness predisposed him to getting this kind of infection. I am concerned
it is signaling he is not getting better. I don't know how you folks do it.
Emotionally it is tough enough. Financially I am not sure I can keep this
up, especially if he keeps getting sick. I pray I wake up tomorrow and he
feels somewhat better.

Thanks for your support, please pray for Junior\

searching for a home for 5 month old female feluk postive kitten

2006-12-01 Thread JENI RECA

Hi,
Hoping I could find another home for another wonderful kitten. Her name is
Tamia (means chipmunk in spanish) she is a 5 month old calico kitten. She
came to our shelter with her sister, a man found them and kept them in a bin
and fed them but unfortunatley seeked out medical help too late (stupid
man). Her sister was a little over a 1lb and started to crash went the vet
saw her and she had to be enuthanized. Luckily Tamia is a bit bigger (I
don't know her weight off hand, but she is very tiny) and survived. She is
doing well and is scared but loves to be held. I will be bringing her home
but would love to find a permanent home for her. If any of you have room
for one more wonderful feluk postive kitten, please contact me. She came up
postive on the IFA and elisa. She is not on meds and I have to find out if
she has been spayed or not.

Thank you
Jeni
